Project Plan: I am going to be a volunteer at the Utah Food Bank and at the Catholic
Community Services.
At the Utah Food Bank, I will be helping with in whatever is needed since I don’t have one
specific description for my job as a volunteer. However, I do know that at times people work in
the production line selecting the food to be ship to other countries.
At the Catholic Community Services, I will be working mostly making food I will assume since
the place to volunteer is the kitchen. I had a similar experience when I worked at the Youth
Center in South Salt Lake in the past few years before covid-19.
Civic Engagement:  Civic engagement deals with contributing to someone to be better I believe,
and I will assume that it is getting or giving attention from the people who live in a community
or being a sort of platform to be more involved in its community. A while back I had to pass a
test in order to get my citizenship and I had some civic questions and questions about the history
of the U.S.A. which is where I am getting my point of view.
Personal Culture:  I belong to church, gym, and a group of like 3 close friends outside my
family circle. I also belong to art communities like the ones in Ogden and one online (Facebook).
Culture Group(s):  A YouTube presentation helped me to estimate that the culture group I will
be working will be Eri therian, Muslims, and perhaps some other refugees like Ukrainian people
I will guess. I will estimate that there can be people from here as well when I go to volunteer.
Challenges: The challenges that I will anticipate will possibly be understanding and making my
point clear when interacting with different cultures during the service- learning project. I hope to
come across as a person who wants to learn and help rather than someone difficult to be around
or be prejudge by someone whether it is the people who will get the food or their friends, and
family.
Benefits:  The benefits that I will anticipate that I will gain will be comprehending more of
another culture and their way to approach a difficult task or how to adapt my communication
pattern to connect and build a positive relationship with the other person and hopefully get to
learn more about their culture, traditions and points of view during the service-learning project.
