5 How to Install this Software

5.1 Read This First!

The software should be installed on English Windows 2000 or English

Windows XP only. The following differences exist between Windows
2000 and XP:
• Windows XP has MMC 2.0 (Microsoft Management Console) installed
by default. The TDC is installed with MMC 1.2 on Windows 2000
• Windows XP has MDAC 2.7 installed by default and Windows 2000
has MDAC 2.1.
• The installation creates a user ‘TDCLauncher’. The default password
used when creating this account is ‘TDCLauncher’. Windows XP
does not allow blank passwords. Versions of TDC previous to V2.11
used either blank or ‘tdc’.

Install the software by running the setup program. Before performing

upgrades make a backup of your system and uninstall previous
version.
After installing the software a valid license file is needed before it can be
used. This file is supplied separately to the TDC software. By default
it is called NoLicense.txt and should be copied to the folder:
C:\Program Files\Tandberg Television\TDC\TdcSiteServer

The TDC requires installation of Microsoft XML4 with service pack. This is
part of the install shield.

On Windows 2000 the TDC Alarm log module requires MDAC 2.6 is
installed. Windows XP does not need any additional install.

The install sets are held on \\Ndsukfp04\MCC_REL\TDC. There are installs

for TDC server and client, The Licence generator and the SNMP agent.

TDC setup with Windows XP (with or without SP1).

The install may not run successfully on some XP installations. This

problem is an XP problem and Microsoft has released two patches to
fix this issue (knowledge base articles Q328310 and Q814995).
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;328310
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814995

Typical symptoms that may be seen during install are; an error message
about a failure in ‘custom.dll’ or the install program failing with an
‘Application Error’. The Microsoft patches should be installed if TDC
installation failure happens.

Preliminary Pages

TDC remote client setup with Windows XP.

When setting up a remote TDC client where either the TDC server and/or
the TDC client are running Windows XP and if workgroup rather than
domain based login is used, then some additional system configuration is
needed. The network access for sharing must be set to classic. To do this
go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Local Security Policy open
the Local Policies Security Options branch and change Network
Access: Sharing and security model for local accounts, from "Guest
Only - local user authenticate as guest" to "Classic - local users
authenticate as themselves".
The install script will make this change at time of installation.

6 Changes in this revision 2.13.3

6.1 Faults Corrected
- TDM consumed large amounts of memory when processing SNMP Trap
storms. The memory usage increased because TDM cannot process the
traps as quickly as they arrive. This would potentially continue, until
memory consumption became critical, causing the PC to reboot. TDM
now limits the queue of traps awaiting processing to 200 traps per
device and therefore memory consumption remains stable.
- Defect 3472: Restart of TDCSiteServer causes redundancy systems to
lose their connection information.
- Defect 3480: QAM cards of board type 5995 do not display their QAM
output port in the redundancy connection list.
- Defect 3493: Reserved ports are not reserved.
- Defect 3496: Cisco switch loses settings when it goes into a no-contact
state.

6.2 Known Remaining problems

- Defect 3426: TDC mirrored, concentrated, Cisco can hang in during
initial setup.
Work around: Delete the switch and recreate it. Any settings will be
lost.
- Defect 3495: TDM can crash after several stops and restarts of
TDCSiteServer when a mirrored, concentrated Cisco is used.
Work around: Any settings will be lost but can be re-entered.

7 Changes in revision 2.13.1

7.1 Additional Features
V2.13.1 now supports mirrored, concentrated Cisco switches. The Cisco
switch must support the Cisco VLAN membership table.
Mirroring is currently restricted to a pair of switches. When switches are
mirrored settings changed by the user are applied to both switches. If a
switch is in a no contact state settings are applied to the switch that is in
contact. When the no contact switch comes back into contact it is re-
synchronised to the switch that remained in contact.
Concentration allo ws more than one switch input to be directed to a switch
output.

7.2 Faults Corrected

- Missing WSS/AFD alarm in database.
Defect: 3371

Page 10 of 41 TDC-RN-0000-V2.13.3.1060 Release.doc

Preliminary Pages

- TDC incorrectly turns off inactive Mx5210's ASI output on redundancy

switch.
Defect: 3414
Use registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TANDBERG
Television\TDC\Server\TT7220\OutputOffDuringSwitch. The default
value is 1 and is created automatically on first redundancy switch. To
stop the output of the inactive Mx5210 being turned off, this needs to
be changed to 0 by manually editing the Windows registry using
regedit.exe.
- High processor usage after trap storm.
Defect: 3357
NOTE: E5710/20 encoders support ATM NICs, but only with the OC-3
interface.

8 Changes in release 2.13.0

8.1 Additional Features

8.1.1 DEV 1722 now DEV 1951

This DEV switch is now called DEV 1951.
This switch has two SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) switches.
DEV have released new firmware (version A.01.00 dated September
2004). This is fitted to switches with serial numbers 2004-03-104 and
later. The new firmware numbers inputs as 1 to 4 and outputs as 1 and 2.
The recommended way of driving this switch from the TDC is to use the
Sandar protocol and configure the switch as 4 inputs and 2 outputs. The
switch must be set to “individual” mode from the front panel.
The TDC treats the switch as a matrix and thus allows cross-point
combinations that are physically invalid for the switch. The physically
invalid combinations are:

Input Output
1 3
1 4
2 1
2 2

The user should not select these combinations.

8.1.2 TDCSiteServer.tdc file may be copied

Information about the devices added to the TDC node tree is held in a file
with a “.tdc” extension, typically named “TDCSiteServer.tdc”.
Previously the TDC Site Server enforced a restriction such that a .tdc file
created on one PC could not be copied and used on another PC.
This restriction has been removed. It is now possible to copy the .tdc file
from one PC to another. This can be useful when restoring from a backup
to a different PC.

Software Release Note

All TDC clients and the TDC Site Server should be closed before copying a
.tdc file to the destination PC.
When a .tdc file is created by the TDC Site Server the server name is
taken from the registry key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\TANDBERG Television\TDC \Server\SiteServerName\TDCSiteServerName

Once the .tdc file is created the name is taken from that stored in the .tdc
file.
The TDC Client will not show the server name from the copied .tdc until
the TDC snap-in is removed and re-added to the MMC console and saved.
It will not affect operation if this step is not taken.

8.1.3 Cisco Catalyst 4507 support. Concentrated IP switch.

Support for the Cisco Catalyst 4507 has been added. This is supported as
part of the new concentrated IP switch driver.
This driver supports not only Cisco 4507 but also the Catalyst 3550.
The benefit of the 4507 over the 3550 is hardware redundancy, wider
choice of port media types and number of ports.
The benefit of the concentrated IP switch driver is the ability to connect
multiple inputs to one or more outputs. This is achieved by mapping a
group of inputs and outputs onto the same VLAN.
The driver available in previous TDC versions, known as “IP Switch” and
supporting just the Cisco Catalyst 3550, is still available and may be used
for just the 3550.

8.1.4 XPO SetMode. NSC file control with redundancy EN5920.

In a EN5920 redundancy group it is required that a failed EN5920 does not
send an NSC file to its assigned middleware web server. This is now
implemented, by use of the SetMode command to the encoder. When the
TDC redundancy-switches an EN5920 it instructs the failed Encoder to stop
sending the NSC file by sending a SetMode command (part of the XPO
interface and defined in DCP (Device Control Protocol)).
The solution is generic and the command is sent to any XPO device during
redundancy switching. Thus any device may implement an appropriate
response to this command.

8.2 Faults Corrected

8.2.1 Problem when adding mirrored IP switch

There was the possibility of the TDC Client hanging when two Catalyst
3550s are added in a mirrored arrangement. This was more likely if the
3550s were not in contact at time of being added.
TestDirector defect 1097

8.2.2 TT6120 Symbol Rate not set after configuration loading

When loading a saved configuration into the TT6120 the symbol rate was
not configured.
TestDirector defect 1117

Page 12 of 41 TDC-RN-0000-V2.13.3.1060 Release.doc

Preliminary Pages

8.2.3 Services not removed from TT6120 in a redundancy switch

The services on the spare device may not have been removed when
making a redundancy switch. The result was that the spare device would
then have the previous services configured and the services that were
selected in the failing active device.
TestDirector defect 1101.

8.2.4 MX5210 Ghost PID.

The TDC and the MX5210 could get out of sync and the TDC would show
PIDs mapped to zero, or PIDs that can’t be deleted, or PIDs that were
deleted would reappear.
TestDirector defect 1112.

8.2.5 IP Switch mirrored configuration save may not work.

“Save Configuration” menu item didn’t work for mirrored IP switches when
one device was initially out of contact.
TestDirector 1098.

8.2.6 TT6120 with IP card: UDP port defaults to an illegal value

The device would default to a UDP port value of zero. This was previously
considered illegal by the TDC and caused an error to be shown.
TestDirector 1104.

9 Changes in release V2.12

9.1 Additional Features

9.1.1 Quartz Router

Support for the Quartz Router serial RS232 protocol has been added.
Quartz Protocol specification V1.18.
For further details please see section 3 of the ERS, TDC-RS-0006-cur
V2.12 Engineering Requirement.doc.

9.1.2 Mirrored Cisco Catalyst 3550 switches

To provide fault tolerance for 3550 switches, two may be paired together
and the TDC will configure both identically.
For further details please see section 4 of the ERS, TDC-RS-0006-cur
V2.12 Engineering Requirement.doc.

9.1.3 TT6120 QAM modulator

Support for the QAM modulator card (Broadband Innovations based) has
been added.
For further details please see section 5 of the ERS, TDC-RS-0006-cur
V2.12 Engineering Requirement.doc.

9.1.4 MX5210 QAM modulator

Support for the QAM modulator card (Broadband Innovations based) has
been added.
For further details please see section 5 of the ERS, TDC-RS-0006-cur
V2.12 Engineering Requirement.doc.

9.1.5 Alarms saved to Event log

All device alarms are now saved in the Windows Application Event log. An
entry is made when an alarm is raised and another entry when it is
cleared.

9.1.6 Cache alarm messages

The text of the cache alarms has been changed to improve clarity and
additional information is logged in the Windows Application Event log to
aid diagnosis.
The alarm ‘Failed to initialize cache’ is now reported as one of these two
errors:
'Device value out of range. See Windows Event Log'
‘Device read failure, please reinitialize.’ (followed by an error code).
Historically instances of this alarm have been due to a device value out of
range. An entry is now made into the Windows Application event log. This
includes details of the device, the parameter SNMP OID and value that was
detected as out of range.

Page 14 of 41 TDC-RN-0000-V2.13.3.1060 Release.doc

Preliminary Pages

The alarm ‘Writing cache failed. Check input parameters.’ has been
changed to ‘Writing to device failed. Check input parameters.

9.1.7 SM6600
The SM6600 is supported as compatible with the SM5600.
The low power setting on the TDC has no affect on the SM66XX
Satellite Modulator.
The ‘carrier activation’ parameter has been removed from the TDC client,
as this is not supported on the SM66xx modulator. As the TDC GUI is
shared for SM5600 and SM66xx this means this parameter is no longer
available for the SM5600 modulator.

9.1.8 TT6020
The PID re-mapping capabilities of the TT6120 have been added to the
TT6020.

9.1.9 Simplified license installation

A TDC License file (*.tlf) may now be installed on the TDC Server by
simply ‘double clicking’ the file in Windows Explorer.
This will cause one of two actions depending on whether the server already
has a TDC license.

Systems with no license installed.

The license file ‘double clicked’ is installed.

Systems with a license file already installed.

The licensed options in the file ‘double clicked’ are merged into the
existing license file giving a superset. This is a very convenient way to
add additional licensed options to an existing system.

The license installer utility that provides this functionality may also be run
from the command line. For example:
TDCLicenseInstaller a:\NewLicense.tlf
There are no restrictions for the filename and extension.
The default installation folder for the license installer utility is:
C:\Program Files\Tandberg Television\TDC\TdcSiteServer

9.2 Faults Corrected

9.2.1 TT1260 & TT1280 hunt mode support

The way in which decoder service hunt mode is supported is subtly
changed to resolve the possibility of TDC writing service ID or component
PIDs causing undesirable loss of service.

The TDC allows the TT1260 and TT1280 to be used in monitor or hunt
mode. In monitor mode the user manually selects which service is to be
decoded, whereas in hunt mode the decoders will search for a valid service
in the stream and decode it. Once locked the decoder stops hunting, until
lock is lost. Hunt mode is intend for use with SPTS feeds.

On the TDC client GUI if hunt mode is selected then all values related to
the service become read only. It is not possible to select and configure
the service ID or component PIDs in the decoded service. The TDC shows
these as read only values when hunt mode is selected and the last values
seen by the TDC are never written back to the decoder. For example, if
the decoder goes from a 'no contact' to 'contact' state then whilst the TDC
will configure the RF tuning values and put the decoder into hunt mode, it
will not configure the service related values. The TDC simply lets the
decoder hunt. The same is true when a redundancy switch is performed.

When using a decoder in hunt mode with the TDC, use of MPTS feeds is
not recommended as it can lead to unexpected results. With use of MPTS
the following undesirable scenario may happen in a system with
redundancy:
TT1260 hunts to a service.
A new service appears on the feed to the TT1260.
The TT1260 will not hunt to the new service, as it already has lock.
A critical alarm occurs causing the TDC to make a redundancy switch.
The TDC configures a spare TT1260 to hunt mode.
The spare TT1260 hunts for a service. It may lock onto the new
service rather than that the original TT1260 had selected.
TestDirector defect 1034

9.2.2 TT6120 Services tab hang

The TDC client could hang when selecting the ‘Services’ tab if the input
transport stream contained a large number of PIDs.
TestDirector defect 1075

9.2.3 E57xx Encoder with IP card

Misreporting of IP card alarms resolved.
TestDirector defect 1027.

9.2.4 TT1280 Alarms7xx Encoder with IP card

9.3 Known Remaining Problems and Limitations

9.3.1 Problem when adding mirrored IP switch

There is the possibility of the TDC Client hanging when two Catalyst 3550’s
are added in a mirrored arrangement. This is more likely if the 3550’s are
not in contact at time of being added.
The resolution is to use the Windows Task Manager to end the TDC Client
task. Restart the TDC Client, the mirrored IP switch will then have been
created and the system will continue to run normally.

10 Changes in release 2.11

10.1 Additional Features

10.1.1 E5710/20
The VBI option to select VBI code ITS has been removed, as this is not a
valid Encoder option.
RAS and BISS supported have been added. This allows configuration of
RAS key and BISS mode and key.
When using an Encoder in a redundancy group the BISS key will not be
configured on the spare. This limitation is because the BISS specifications
prevent read back of a BISS key from a device.

10.1.2 E5780
G703 output card supported added. The details of this are:
Only MKII operation mode supported.
Clock Mode: Slave or Master (only in MKII mode).
Signal Level Out: High or Normal.
PDH Rate: DS3 (45) or E3 (34).
Packet Length: 188 or 204.
Framing if PDH is DS3: CBIT, M13, G751
Framing if PDH is E3: G842.
Reed-Solomon: Only available if packet length is 204.
Randomizer: Only available if reed-Solomon is enabled.
Interleaver: Only available if both reed-solomon and randomizer are
enabled.
Error Protect: Not available (requires MKI operation mode).

10.1.3 TT1280
The TT1280 configuration and supported parameters are very similar to
the TT1260. Both devices are based on the same MIB.
Support includes ASI and SSI motherboard input and option cards:
IP input
G703 (MKII mode only) input
QPSK/QAM input.

10.1.4 R5000 (Market Central)

The R5000 is an Ethernet A/B RJ45 electrical and optical switch.

Page 18 of 41 TDC-RN-0000-V2.13.3.1060 Release.doc

Preliminary Pages

Grouping of switches within an R5000 is supported so, for example,

multiple switch contacts can be ganged together and always have the
same state.
This switch may only be used as an output switch in a redundancy
system.

10.2 Faults Corrected

10.2.1 E57xx
Fixes for redundancy switching of E57xx with IP Output card. This defect
could cause cache errors to be shown on the TDC client. Also requires
Encoder V3.2.5 and upwards.

10.2.2 TT1220
Reliability improved. An occasional problem that could cause a crash in
AsyncServer has been resolved. This defect could cause the TDC client to
get stuck showing just an ‘Initialising’ tab after clicking on a device.

10.2.3 Network switch

Reliability improved. Protocol corruptions could cause processor usage to
go to and stay at 100%.

Software Release Note

10.3 Known Remaining Problems and Limitations

10.3.1 E5710 & E5720

The TDC may report cache errors when using an Encoder with IP output
card and Encoder software release V3.2.3.
This can be due to the Encoder returning out of range values for SNMP
OIDs 1773.1.3.29.2.1.7 and 773.1.3.29.3.1.6. A MIB browser or utility
should be used to write valid values to these OIDs to work around this
problem.

10.3.2 E5780
The data inputs on the E5780 mainboard are not supported. This is
because the E5780 is supported as a backwards compatible E5821 and the
E5821 does not have data inputs on the mainboard.

10.3.3 R5000
The device software has known problems. These have been reported to
Market Central.

10.3.4 TT1260
The latest TT1260 has a feature to enable/disable VBI NTSC Pedestal
insertion. This is not supported from the TDC.

11.1 Additional Features

11.1.1 SM5600
Support for L band card added.
Low and high-speed symbol rate licenses supported.

Note the SM5600 must be set to ‘SNMP full control’ from the front panel.
It should not be used in ‘SNMP monitor only’ mode as in this mode it
cannot be controlled.

11.1.2 E5710/E5720
• IP output card. Including FEC parameter.
• G.703 output card. MKII mode only.
• Noise reduction level 4 support. Needs Encoder release later than
V3.2.2

11.1.3 E5780

feature set is limited to that of the E5821.
Thus E5780 features not supported are:
• VITC.
• IP output card.
• G703 output card.
• Remux card.
• 4:2:2.
• HD Noise reduction - 4 levels.
• 3 video bandwidths.
• Long GOP.
• 1080 SF 25 & 25.

11.1.4 TT1260
• IP input card support added.

11.1.5 TT6120
• E3 G.832 framing added to G.703 card. Input and output.

Notes on use of PSI/SI download

• Must ensure, however, that only the tables contained in the .sit file are actually set to
“Use downloadable”.
If too many tables are set in this mode and it cannot find them in .sit file,
it simply fails to download. TFTP Alarm to indicate download failed but no
reasons.

11.1.6 DEV 1222 and DEV 1722

DEV switch models 1222 and 1722 tested. These are both A/B type
switches, with two SPDT switch channels.
The switches may be used in the TDC setup as a 1 output 2 input switch
using Sandar Prosan protocol. The DEV switch may be set in simultaneous
mode or individual mode. In simultaneous mode the channel 2 switch will
follow the channel 1 switch. This is switch functionality, the TDC plays no
part in switching channel 2 as switch channel 1. In individual mode the
channel 2 switch is not configured by the TDC.

The switches may be used in the TDC setup as a 2 output 2 input switch
using RF Prosan protocol. The DEV switch must be set in individual mode.
Setting the switch outputs to connected or disconnected in the TDC will
change the relevant switch channel to A or B input (Connected = B,
Disconnected = A).

11.1.7 Faster shutdown

The TDC Site Server shutdown process has been improved to make this
faster and no longer directly proportional to the number of TDC devices.

11.1.8 Diagnostic log

The registry setting for the TDC and TDM diagnostic log level now takes
effect without the need to restart the TDC Site Server or TDM.

Page 22 of 41 TDC-RN-0000-V2.13.3.1060 Release.doc

Preliminary Pages

11.2 Known Remaining Problems

11.2.1 TT6120

Redundancy switching on TT6120 (V4.5.4) may not work if a G703 card is fitted. This
is due to a problem with the device.

This problem can be worked around by manually configuring the spare devices to have
the same Operation Mode, Clock Mode, Packet Length and PDH Rate as the active
devices.

11.2.2 MA5300
A video glitch may occur on MA5300 devices with E3/DS3 physical layer option when
the device goes from control communications no contact to contact state. This is a
device problem and has been fixed in development (MA5300 V2.4.T) and is pending
release.

11.2.3 E5710
An Encoder defect prevents the G.703 card from working with the TDC in
Encoder release V3.2.2. Encoder release V3.2.3 will resolve most
problems, but has a limitation that signal level cannot be set to high when
in DS3 mode.

An Encoder defect prevents noise reduction level 4 from working in the

TDC in Encoder release V3.2.2. Encoder release V3.2.3 is expected to
resolve this. With release V3.2.2 noise reduction level 4 should not be
selected on the TDC client.
Clicking the ‘Show Licensed Modules’ button on the TDC Status tab may
show an empty list. This can be caused by slow SNMP response from the
Encoder. Click away from the Encoder device on the TDC client and re-
select the device and then try clicking the ‘Show Licensed Modules’ button
again. This list of licenses may then be accessible.

BISS and RAS are not supported. This is not a change in this version, but
a note that this feature has never been supported for E5710 or E5720
Encoders in the TDC.

11.2.4 E5821

G.703 output card is not supported for configuration but can be fitted and will be
ignored by the TDC. This means G703 parameters are not configured on redundancy
switch and all G703 cards should be manually configured from the front panel to
identical settings.

Preliminary Pages

12.3 Known Remaining Problems

12.3.1 Windows XP

The Microsoft SNMP trap service (snmptrap.exe) driver may crash on a clean XP
installation. This stops the TDC receiving traps from the devices. To fix this problem,
upgrade the XP operating system with the current updates.

12.3.2 SM5600
The SM5600 modulator should not be simultaneously controlled from the
TDC via SNMP and from a telnet session. This can cause configuration
settings to be lost, wrongly configured or the SM5600 device to require
rebooting.
This is a current limitation of the SM5600 equipment.

12.3.3 E5821

The following features are currently disabled in the TDC, as they are not
yet supported in the Encoder. They are currently road mapped for
Encoder software V2.7.
• Dual mono in linear PCM.
• Video dropped frame mode.
• Video active format descriptor.
• Video pull down.
• Teletext delay.
• Mux clock.

12.3.4 Redundancy and BISS

BISS specifications make it illegal to read a BISS key from the device. As
a result of this the TDC cannot fully configure the BISS parameters for a
device with BISS hardware when doing a redundancy switch.

12.3.5 Redundancy and Encoders

When performing a redundancy switch on a group of Encoders a brief flash
of the spare Encoder’s previous input may be seen. This is due to the
flushing of the video encoder buffer in the spare.

• Dual mono when using linear PCM audio coding standard.
• Video dropped frame mode.
• Video active format descriptor.
• Video pull down.
• Teletext delay.
• Mux clock.
The Encoder shows VBI when using SD PAL for line 336 and as a result
this is shown in the TDC. This is not a valid VBI line and cannot be
configured. The user should ignore this VBI line in the TDC.

Supported added.
• SNMP protocol.
• ATM AAL1 155 Mbps input, ASI input.
• QAM output, ATM AAL1 155 Mbps output.
• Alarm status monitoring.

14.1.2 Configuration load/save

The ability to load and save configurations on a per device basis has been
added. Loading a device configuration must be for a device with the same
hardware options as the device from which the configuration was saved,
i.e the same option cards.

14.2 Faults Corrected

• No major fixes. Various minor fixes detailed in Test Director defects

database (http://bugs-bunny/TDBIN/start_b.htm).
• SNMP Agent memory leak.
• SNMP Agent no contact alarm for switches. The no contact alarm worked
correctly immediately after creating a switch device. But after restarting the
system, switch no contact alarms were no longer shown in the SNMP agent MIB.
