Introducción
The storage function is a fundamental part of the storage system. total distribution and
represents a point of separation between supply and demand aspects of any business.
Traditionally, the physical nature of the operation has emphasized its intensive degree of
work, demanding a high level of management and control by man. The rapid growth of
technological support has offered an opportunity to get a greater effectiveness and
efficiency. This technological support ranges from introduction of better handling and
storage equipment to the use of computerized control systems. As with other elements of
the distribution function, such as transportation and inventory management; The
warehouse is concerned with two main objectives: cost and service. The main objective
is to achieve an optimal position in relation to hese two factors through:

• Minimizing the total cost of the operation

• The provision of the desired service levels.

Organization of materials in a warehouse
Wineries:

They are those places where the different types of merchandise are kept.

The formulation of an inventory policy for a warehouse department depends on the

information regarding lead times, availability of materials, trends in prices and purchasing
materials, it is the best source of this information.

This function physically controls and maintains all inventory items, adequate physical
safeguards must be established to protect items from unnecessary use damage due to
defective inventory turnover procedures and theft. Records should be kept, which
facilitate immediate location of items.

Warehouse function:
1. They keep raw materials protected from fire, theft and damage.
2. Allow authorized persons access to stored materials.
3. They keep the purchasing department constantly informed about the real stocks
of raw materials.
4. Keeps meticulous controls on raw materials (inputs and outputs)
5. Make sure that the materials are not exhausted (maximum - minimum).

Stock Function:
Guarantee the supply and invalidate the effects of:

1. Delay in the supply of materials.

2. partial supply
3. Purchase or production in economic totals.
4. Speed and efficiency in meeting the needs.
Warehouse Equipment
Strategies and boxes or lockers:

You can greatly increase the overall efficiency and flexibility of your storage procedures
by using the right equipment. In some companies, the conservation department
constitutes the shelves, lockers, compartments, among others, which are made with
ordinary wood and veneered plywood. However, steel shelving has already become more
general use than wooden shelving and can be purchased from specialist manufacturers
in the industry in a wide variety of models and sizes.

Reception function:
The reception function, whether of a company unit or a common carrier, is the same. If
the material is received from any other source or other department of the company,
construction activities, the procedure will be the same.

Importance:
The proper reception of materials and other items is of vital importance, since a large part
of the companies have as a result of their centralized experience the total reception under
a single department, the main exceptions are those large companies with multiple plants.
The reception is closely linked to the purchase, since probably 70% of the cases, the
department under the responsibility of the purchasing department.
Process
Upon receiving a shipment: It will be subjected to verification to check if it is in order and
in good condition, if the container is damaged or the number of packages required was
not received. The corresponding reservation must be made immediately and receipt of
conformity cannot be given by the shipment, this is essential regardless of whether the
transport is air, sea or land, as it could be required to enforce any resulting claim on
hidden shipments. .

Similarly: The material that a company facility receives must also be subjected to a
preliminary inspection, before being introduced into the storage area, in the event that the
initial inspection detects materials of inferior quality or in poor condition. it must be
rejected.

Physical inventory
The name of merchandise inventory is given to the verification or confirmation of the
existence of the materials or assets of the company. In reality, the inventory is a physical
statistic or count of existing materials, to be compared with the existence recorded in the
stock files or in the materials data bank.

Some companies give it the name of physical inventory because it is a physical or

palpable statistic of those that are in stock in the company and to differentiate them from
the existence registered in the FE.

The physical inventory is carried out periodically, almost always at the close of the
company's fiscal period, for the purpose of the accounting balance. On that occasion, the
inventory is done throughout the company; in the winery, in the sections, in the
warehouse, among others. Physical inventory is important for the following reasons:
It allows to verify the differences between the stock records in the FE and the physical
stock (actual quantity in stock).

It allows to verify the differences between the physical countable stocks, in monetary
values.

Provides the approximation of the total value of inventories (accounting), for balance
sheet purposes, when the inventory is carried out close to the close of the fiscal year.

Materials Coding
To facilitate the location of materials stored in the warehouse, companies use material
coding systems. When the number of items is very large, it becomes almost impossible
to identify them by their respective names, brands, sizes, etc.

To facilitate the administration of the materials, the articles should be classified based on
a rational system that allows adequate storage procedures, operational,
operationalization of the warehouse and efficient control of stocks. The name of article
classification is given to the cataloging, simplification, specification, standardization,
schematization and coding of all the materials that make up the company's stock. Let's
take a better look at this classification concept, defining each of its stages.

Cataloging: Means inventory of all existing items without omitting any. The cataloging
allows the joint presentation of all the articles providing a general idea of the collection.

Simplification: It means the reduction of the great diversity of articles used for the same
purpose, when there are two or more pieces for the same purpose, it is recommended
that simplification favors normalization.

Specification: means the detailed description of an item, such as its measurements,

format, size, weight, etc. The higher the specification, the more information will be
available about the item and the less doubts regarding its composition and characteristics.
The specification facilitates the purchases of the article, since it allows to give the supplier
a precise idea of the material to be purchased. Facilitate inspection when receiving
material, product engineering work, etc.
Standardization: Indicates the way in which the material should be used in its various
applications. The word derives from rules, which are the recipes on the use of materials.

Standardization: means establishing identical standards of weight, measurements and

formats for the materials so that there are not many variations between them.
Standardization means that, for example, the screws are of this or that specification,
thereby preventing hundreds of different screws from unnecessarily entering stock.

Thus we catalog, simplify, specify, normalization and standardization constitute the

different steps towards classification. From the classification you can code the materials.

Classification
• Cataloging
• Simplification
• Specification
• Standardization
• Standardization
• Coding

Example:
In the zf chassis company located in Aguascaientes, it has a divided warehouse, since
some of its materials need refrigeration, so it has to be kept at a certain temperature so
that the material does not spoil, also taking into account the FIFO (First inputs, first
outputs), also to prevent the material from being lost since some of the materials that are
handled have an expiration date, so it is always important to have adequate control of this
type of material and everything the rest....
What are the ways of working of a Manual warehouse and an
Automated warehouse?
The manual storage technique is characterized by using shelves and containers in
standard sizes that provide ease of transport and handling. An automated warehouse
aims to reduce or eliminate human intervention in storage, sorting and control procedures.

Conclusion:
Carrying out a good administration of a warehouse or warehouse allows the company to
save costs, time and inventory, which means a good profit for it, knowing how to control
inputs and outputs of material from the warehouse, as well as using the information
correctly by The means of new and better technologies is a challenge for companies that
must be overcome, everything that is needed for a good organization, distribution,
storage, transfer, etc. It leads to the good relationship and success of companies with the
supplier, manufacturer and most importantly, the customer.
