ACTIVITY #2.
Name of the reading: Reading in Internet: two technologies (Adolfo Rodríguez
Gallardo)

WHAT READING COMPREHENSION STRATEGIES CAN BE USED?

 Read the text again.

 Use your prior knowledge.
 Read between the lines, use context clues.
 Think out loud.
 Make a summary.
 Locate the keywords.
 Make predictions.
 Visualize.

ABSTRAC.

The paper focuses on reading and writing as two associated technologies that give origin to
a fundamental binomial for the development of humanity, and on a much more recent
technology: Internet. Thus, an analysis of the technological innovations applied to library
science is made, and the opinions that have given birth to the formation of groups with
divergent positions are identified. The article centers on two groups: the technologists and
the conservatives. The former base their hope on the idea that technology will be the overall
solution to library science problems, whereas the latter resist change and over estimate
existing means. On the other hand, the technological push has given rise to worries which
hold that reading and writing, printed materials, the library and even library science will
disappear. However, those specialists who have assumed the displacement of institutions
and professionals seem not to have analyzed in depth the conditions that information
technologies must fulfill in order to satisfy effectively our information needs. We must not
forget that for our technology to operate successfully, man requires dominion of the
ancestral techniques of reading and writing.
Keywords: Reading; Writing; Internet; Information and Communication Technologies.

ARGUMENTS

 The purpose of this reading is that communication and information technology are
not alternatives to the need to learn to read at an early age and be able, through
reading, to improve comprehension and learning levels, as well as to improve the
ability to obtain information for themselves.
 Technology influences reading one of the most obvious changes in reading habits
that have occurred with the use of technology is that it is increasingly difficult to
concentrate on certain devices. With the paper book, you can always mute other
devices and just focus on the page in front of you.
CONCLUSION
The new technology is not intended to replace what already exists, but rather to complement
the existing ones and facilitate the performance of many human activities. The fears of
Socrates and 20th century librarians about new technologies were unfounded. Dialogue as
a method of studying things and human phenomena continues to exist, writing and reading
have only strengthened it. Reading has not been threatened by the use of computers or the
Internet; on the contrary, its use has required that users become increasingly apt to write
and read, only then will they be able to cope with the avalanche of information offered by
the new electronic instruments. Both technologies, like thousands of others, have allowed
human beings to better face their problems and, in the particular case of reading and the
Internet, the problems of knowledge.
