LESSON 6

IT Enters A New Learning Environment

It is most helpful to see useful models of school learning that is ideal to


achieving instructional goals through preferred application of educational
technology.These are the models of Meaningful Learning,Discovery Learning,
Generative Learning and Constructivism.
In these conceptual models,we shall see how effective teachers best interact
with students in innovative learning activities,while integrating technology to
the teaching-learning process.

CONCEPTUAL MODELS OF LEARNING

MEANINGFUL LEARNING
If the traditional learning environment gives stress to rote learning and
simple memorization,meaningful learning gives focus to new experience that is
related to what the learner already knows.The learner is encouraged to
recognize relevant personal experiences.

DISCOVERY LEARNING

Discovery learning is differentiated from reception learning in which ideas


are presented directly to students in a well-organized way,such as through a
detailed set of instructions to complete an experiment or task. To make a
contrast,in discovery learning students perform tasks to uncover what is to be
learned.

GENERATIVE LEARNING
In generative learning ,we have active learners who attend to learning
events and generate meaning from this experience and draw inferences
thereby creating a personal model or explanation to the new experience in the
context of existing knowledge.Generative learning is viewed as different from
the simple process of storing information.Motivation and responsibility are seen
to be crucial to this domain of learning.

CONSTRUCTIVISM
In constructivism,the learner builds a personal understanding through
appropriate learning activities and a good learning environment.The most
accepted principles constructivism are:
Learning consists in what a person can actively assemble for himself and
not what he can receive passively.
The role of learning is to help the individual live/adapt to his personal world.
This two principles in turn lead to three practical implications:

The learner is directly responsible for learning.He creates personal


understanding and transforms information into knowledge.The teacher
plays an indirect role by modeling effective learning,assisting,facilitating
and encouraging learners.
The context of meaningful learning consists in the learner connecting his
school activity with real life.
The purpose of education is the acquisition of practical and personal
knowledge,not abstract or universal truths.

LESSON 7

IT for Higher Thinking Skills and Creativity

This teaching approach has been proven successful for achieving learning
outcomes following the lower end of Blooms
Taxonomy:knowledge,comprehension and application are concerned.
Students are expected to be not only cognitive,but also flexible,analytical and
creative.In this lesson ,there are methods proposed for the use of computerbased technologies as an integral support to higher thinking skills and
creativity.

Higher Level Learning Outcomes


We may adopt a framework that is a helpful synthesis of many models and
definitions on the subject matter.The framework is not exhaustive but a helpful
guide for the teacher to understand and learners higher learning process.

The Upgraded Project Method

The project method for higher learning outcomes consists in having


the students work on projects with depth,complexity,duration and relevance to
the real world.Improving on the Dewey project method,this new method
involves students in the active creation of information,such that there is
sustained reflective thinking on topics that have a real-world quality on them.
In this revised project method,there is a tighter link between the use of
projects for simply coming up with products to having the students undergo
the process of complex/higher thinking under the framework of the
constructivist paradigm.

THE PROCESS
The process of project implementation takes the students to the
steps,effort,and experiences in project compilation.
The process is more important than the product.
The process refers to the thinking/affective/psycho-motor process that
occurs on the part of the learner.This comprises the journey that actualizes
learning.
The product is the result of this all important process consisting in a
possibly a summary,a poster,an essay,a term paper,a dramatic presentation,or
an IT-based product.

Resource-based projects
Simple creations
Guided hyper-media projects
Web-based projects

INTERNET BASICS
In the Internet basics/Web Help tutorial we are going to cover the basics of
the internet or web.I want to start by defining that terms internet and web,then
move through explaining browser,search engines, web-mail and anti-virus
programs.These topics will give you a through understanding of finding your
way around the web.

Many people use the terms internet and world wide web(aka.the WEB)
interchangeably,but they are not the same. The Internet and the Web are two
separate but related things.

The Internet is a massive network of networks.It connects millions of


computers together globally,forming a network in which any computer can
communicate with any other computer as long as they are both connected to
the Internet.

The World Wide Web or simply Web,is a way of accessing information


over the medium of the internet. It is an information sharing model that is built
on top of the internet.The Web utilizes browsers, such as Internet Explorer or
Firefox,to access Web documents called Web pages that are linked to each
other via hyperlinks. Web documents also contain graphics,sounds,text and
video.

Now that you know the difference between an internet and the web we can
start walking through the basics for using the web. Most senior or beginner
computer users want to use the web to search for information in their favorite
topics, do some banking,play games book travel arrangements,or shop online.

In order to do these things you need to use some sort of web browser.There are
many different browsers to choose from. I like using either IE or Fire Fox.

HOW DO YOU GET CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET?


DIAL-UP. This is still fairly common way of connecting to the internet although
many people have switched to broadband, a much faster albeit more
expensive way of browsing the web.
DSL,CABLE and Wireless Internet
Other ways of connecting to the internet include high speed broadband
connections,DSL(your phone line on steroids) or cable ( your cable tv
connection).There is also wireless internet such as handhelds,cell phones and
laptop on the go.

HOW DO YOU SURF THE WEB?

BROWSER. You make use of software on your PC


HYPERLINKS.Nearly all web pages contain hyperlinks or simply links that let
you hop around an entire website quickly.
BACK BUTTON.All browser have a back button-a button showing an arrow
pointing left and sometimes the word backusually at the top left of the
browser page.
FAVORITES.Also known as bookmarks.
HOW CAN YOU SEARCH THE WEB?
NET craft is an internet services company based in BATH,England that
provides web server and web hosting market-share analysis.
SEARCH ENGINES are wonderful tools,and theyre free.There are literally
hundreds of search engines available,but dozen or so of them are the most
used and best known.Here are examples of a few of the most widely used
search engines(these links open in new browser windows):
Good Search-is a search engine that donates 50% of its revenue to the
charities and schools designated by the users.
YAHOO!-was the first of the modern day search engine, founded in 1994
by two Stanford Ph.D.students who became billionaires on account of their
creation.

GOOGLE- is probably the most widely used search engine.


BING- is a relatively new search engines from microsoft.
ASK-use ask to ask questions like, whats the weather in cancun?
MAMMA-referred to as the mother of all search engines, is actually a
metasearch engine.

EVALUATION OF WEBSITES

This lesson teaches us to be aware with the use of different use of computer
software including the Microsoft,power point and micro excel. As a future
teacher we are given a chance to become an effective teacher someday we
are being thought for a better teaching which is also helpful for both teacher
and students.

The computer as of now can be considered as a tutor too, just the fact that
nowadays,students has a total of 50-60 numbers and the teachers cannot
accommodate them all.So,to make it fair for all the students we have a tool
which will tutored all the students by just surfing the net but we cannot replace
the teachers with computer because computer is just a tool for a teacher to

relieve lots of activities in school,so that even though students are plenty,all of
them will be able to learn.

Aside from the truth that computer can be a TUTOR, computer also can be
a teachers handy tool in teaching ,teachers can use computer as an
information tool where in it provides vast amount of information such as the
latest news,weather report and other important infos.Through internet
students can get information for their reports and assignment.Communication
tool,where in students can communicate through E-mail and other social
media.

The computer is a natural learning vehicle for cooperative learning .It


promotes cooperation and collaboration within the students working on the
same tasks,also it develops enthusiasm and sense of belonging between
individual within a group who shares common goal.Every individual is given a
sense of responsibility to do his part in achieving the goal.

With this lesson, using computer is an electronic device that store,process


and display information and data in a form that is easily understood.It has lots
of software which is important and useful in learning such as instructional
software.It is use as a tutoring tool for students and helps students to learn
including drill and practice,tutorial.simulation,games and problem solving.

Education is really important to us as well as the internet,Internet is really


helpful in our education because it help us to gain lots of information where we
cannot answer by our self and by our teacher. We cannot deny the fact that
there are times that we have inquiry that really plats in our mind and it is just
answerable with the use of internet and our teacher.

In this lesson we are thought how to use different software of computer.It


teaches us how to use Microsoft office,excel,power point presentation and
other software which enhances our skills to use those software.And as a future
teacher it is really helpful to use to impart knowledge to our future students
which they can apply also to their own success.
