AGING WITH NATURE: AN ANALYSIS OF THE INTEGRATION OF BIOPHILIC DESIGN IN

THE DESIGN OF ELDER CARE FACILITIES

Aging with Nature: An Analysis of the Integration of Biophilic Design in the Design of Elder
Care Facilities asserts that the integration of biophilic design principles into elder care facility
design can contribute to the improved physical and mental well-being of the elderly. As the
population of elderly people continues to grow, there is an increasing need for elder care
facilities that incorporate an environmental design that supports the needs of aging individuals.
To meet this need, biophilic design principles provide a framework for creating environments
that are both aesthetically pleasing and enriching. This thesis will explore the potential of
biophilic design to enhance the quality of life for the elderly by examining evidence-based
research on the positive effects of biophilic design and its applications in elder care facility
design.

Through an analysis of case studies, interviews, and surveys, this thesis will identify the key
features of biophilic design and its potential to improve the quality of life of aging individuals.

A STUDY ON THE INTEGRATION OF SENSORY AND THERAPEUTIC DESIGN

STRATEGIES IN THE REDESIGNING OF MENTAL HEALTH FACILITIES IN THE
PHILIPPINES AND ITS IMPACT ON PSYCHIATRIC PATIENT’S BEHAVIOR

The prevalence of mental health issues continues to rise across the world, with the Philippines
having one of the highest rates of mental illness in the region. In response to this, the Philippine
government has committed to increasing access and quality of mental health services to its
citizens. However, in order to effectively meet the needs of people with mental illness, it is
necessary to not only to provide quality medical care, but to also create a supportive and
therapeutic environment. This thesis will explore the potential of integrating sensory and
therapeutic design strategies in the redesigning of mental health facilities in the Philippines, and
how this can impact the behavior of psychiatric patients. The research will explore how these
design strategies can be implemented to create an environment that is conducive to positive
mental health and well-being, and how this can lead to improved outcomes for patients. It will
also look into the various challenges that may be faced in the implementation of these strategies,
and the potential solutions that can be used to overcome them.

Ultimately, this research aims to provide insight into how the design of mental health facilities
can be improved, in order to create an environment that is conducive to better mental health
outcomes.
