Installation and Load Capacity Data

Applies to solid substrates

* This number is based on a 410ml cartridge, injecting ideal volume, and allowing 30ml wastage.
Important: Never under fill the hole

Close edge (C) and anchor spacing (S) distances:

- The characteristic edge distance (Ccr,N) is 1.0 x hef
- The characteristic spacing distance (Scr,N) is 2.0 x hef
- The minimum edge (Cmin) and spacing (Smin) distances are 0.5 x hef

All load capacity values assume adequate steel strength; the anchor tests were carried out using
10.9 or 12.9 steel.

Performance data (embedment depth 8d) in C20/25 concrete

The performance of an anchor depends in the properties of the resin, the steel quality of the
threaded bar, the concrete strength, the embedment depths and the drilling and cleaning quality. In
the following pages, the loads are indicated for embedment depths ranging from 8 times to 12 times
the bar diameter. It is possible to interpolate 9 times, 10 times and 11 times. The performance at
standard embedment depth for chemical anchors is also included.

ETA Performance Data for Post Installed Reinforcing Bars in C20/25 to C50/60
Concrete strength
®
AnchorFix -2 injection system is used for the connection, by anchoring or overlap joint, of
reinforcing bars (rebar) in existing structures made of ordinary non-carbonated concrete C12/15 to
C50/60. The design of the post-installed rebar connections is done in accordance with EN 1992-1-1
October 2005 (EN 1992-1-1).
®
Covered are rebar anchoring systems consisting of AnchorFix -2 bonding material and an
embedded straight deformed reinforcing bar diameter, d, from 8 to 32mm with properties according
to Annex C of EN 1992-1-4 and EN 10080. The classes B and C of the rebar are recommended.
The ETA covers applications in non-carbonated concrete C12/15 to C50/60 (EN 206-1) only, which
are also allowed with straight deformed cast-in bars according to EN 1992-1-1, e.g. those in the
following applications:
- Overlapping joints with existing reinforcement in a building component.
- Anchoring of the reinforcement at a slab or beam support; end support/bearing of a slab designed
as simply supported as well as its reinforcement for restraint forces.
- Anchoring of reinforcement of building components stressed primarily in compression.
- Anchoring of reinforcement to cover the line of acting tensile force.

Fire Resistance for Rebar Applications

®
AnchorFix -2 has been thoroughly tested at CSTB for its resistance to the effects of fire on rebar
applications. This includes wall to beam applications as well as slab to slab applications.
Tests were conducted to simulate a fire situation to the standard fire model in accordance with ISO
834. The minimum concrete cover was considered and data was calculated in accordance with the
provisions laid out in Euro Code 2 and Euro Code 3.
For the purpose of the tests, the thermal properties of the concrete only were considered. Three
types of concrete were considered by aggregate type:
- Silicate
- Calcareous
- Light
Considering that light aggregate is less common than calcareous and silicate aggregates, it was
deemed that the data should not be directly calculated from specimens using this type of aggregate,
however, light aggregate was considered in the preliminary investigations.
Data from the preliminary investigations showed that silicate aggregate gave the most conservative
values for coefficients relating to the thermal properties of concrete. As such it was decided to
present the data in terms of this type of aggregate.
The temperature at a bonded area under fire conditions was considered to be uniform across the
bonded area relative to the concrete cover afforded to it. Temperatures were then calculated using
the finite elements method.
For the purpose of the tests, rebar was installed into steel encased concrete cylinders of diameter
150mm. 20 specimens were tested under tensile load and fire exposure to determine the pullout
behaviour and thermo - mechanical properties. This was used to develop a passive fire prevention
®
design concept for rebar connections using AnchorFix -2.

Maximum loads in rebar for AnchorFix®-2 in case of fire:

®
The following tables show data for the design of rebar using AnchorFix -2 in the case of fire. The
data is applicable for B500 rebar. Interpolation is acceptable; however, the data should not be
extrapolated for rebar sizes beyond the maximum stated in the table.
®
This information does not affect the design of rebar connections using AnchorFix -2 at ambient
temperatures, but should be considered by a competent designer for structures where resistance to
fire is of high importance.
For the data to be applicable, it is imperative that the holes that are drilled prior to the installation of
the rebar are fully cleaned in accordance with the instructions found in this product information
sheet.

Limitations
®
During the curing process AnchorFix -2 mortar exhibits unrestrained shrinkage.

Note for the Use in Porous Substrates

This bonded anchor is not intended for use as a cosmetic or decorative product. When anchoring
into porous or reconstituted stone it is recommended that technical assistance is sought. Due to the
nature of the product, migration of the monomer in the resin may cause staining in certain materials.
If you are still uncertain, it is advisable to test the resin by applying it in a small, discrete area and
testing before using the resin on the project.

Important Note
Whilst all reasonable care is taken in compiling technical data on the Company’s products, all
recommendations or suggestions regarding the use of such products are made without guarantee,
since the conditions of use are beyond the control of the Company. It is the customer’s responsibility
to satisfy himself that each product is fit for the purpose for which he intends to use it, that the actual
conditions of use are suitable and that, in the light of our continual research and development
programme the information relating to each product has not been superseded.
