OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
1. To deliver an overview of Financial System in India
2. To explain the concepts of Capital Market and Money Market and their respective
sub-markets.
3. To impart knowledge about SEBI and its role in investor protection.
4. To give an overview of services provided by Indian Development Banks in Indian
Financial Market.
5. To impart knowledge of Financial Markets, Financial Institutions, Financial
Services and Financial Instruments that formulates a financial system
6. To provide an overview about the role of mutual funds and depositories in India.

On completion of the course students will be able to:
FIN2702.1 Student will able to understand the recent developments in the
Indian financial system
FIN2702.2 Student can analyse methods of issuing shares and role of
intermediaries in the primary market
FIN2702.3 Student will able to evaluate Secondary market and Instruments
of secondary market
FIN2702.4 Student will able to apply the trading mechanism in the stock
market and banking Sector
FIN2702.5 Students will able to save money form the help of Derivative
instruments.
FIN2702.6 Students will enable to apply speculative activities related to
financial markets.

Module I: 10 Hours
INTRODUCTION: Meaning of financial markets, Financial system and its components,
functions; money market, instruments, types, regulations, Role of central bank in money
market; capital markets, reforms.

PRIMARY MARKET: Initial Public Offer (IPO); Book Building through Online IPO;
Eligibility to issue securities; Pricing of Issues; Fixed versus Book Building issues;
allotment of Shares.

Module III: 14 Hours


SECONDARY MARKET: Role and functions of Securities and Exchange Board of
India (SEBI); Depositories; Stock exchanges; Intermediaries in the Indian stock
market; Listing Membership; Trading Clearing and settlement and risk
management; Investor protection fund (IPF); and Do's and Don'ts for investors,
Equity and debt investment

Module IV: 10 Hours

Banking Sector: Banking Sector: Banking sector in India, role of RBI, commercial banks,
foreign banks, reports of important committees, functions of a bank, products, assets and
liabilities of banks; Nonperforming assets, growth and performance of Indian banking sector

Module V: 10Hours

DERIVATIVES: Types of derivatives; Products, Participants, and functions; Trading


mechanism; Membership; Contract specification; Clearing & Settlement

Module VI: 8 Hours


Financial Services: Financial Services: Merchant banking, Venture capital and private
equity; Factoring & Forfeiting; Credit rating agencies; Underwriting; Portfolio management;
Loan syndication, project financing; brokerage services
