OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
1. The course defines the objectives and strategies of Financial Planning.
2.  Demonstrate financial calculator in determining the time value of money.
3. Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and competence with all areas of the
strategic investment planning process.
4. This course examines the operations of financial planning from a investment
point of view.
5. Discuss investment theory and financial economics.
6. Demonstrate employability skills and a commitment to professionalism.

On completion of the course students will be able to:
FIP1701.1 Student will able to understand the Basic knowledge of concept of
Financial Planning.
FIP1701.2 Student can analyse and use financial calculator in determining
the time value of money.
FIP1701.3 Student will able to evaluate fundamental technical analysis

FIP1701.4 Student will able to apply investment theory and financial


economics in general terms.

Module I: 10 Hours
Basics of Personal Financial Planning
Definition, Importance and process of financial planning, Concept of time value of money in
single and series

Module II: 12 Hours

Managing Investment Risk


Types of risks, measurement and management of risks and financial statements. Measuring
Investment Returns: Risk and Return trade-off, Short term and long term capital Gains.
Choosing the various source of credit and credit alternatives.

Module III: 10 Hours

Investment Vehicles
Investment concerns, Small saving schemes, Fixed income Instruments, Mutual funds
and other investment schemes and Asset classes. Investment Strategies: Various
Strategies and asset allocation. Evaluating investment in various stocks and Various
Loans and their usage

Module IV: 10 Hours

Investment Strategies
Investing in stocks, bonds and commodities and concept of Futures and options.
Insurance Planning;-Personal risk management, Nature and function of Insurance, Need
analysis and Various Insurance products. Concept of Health Insurance

Module V: 10Hours

Retirement Planning:
Process, Annuities and its types, Asset allocation & diversification and concept of
mortgage and its types. Strategies of putting together a Complete Financial Plan:
Benefits, Essential components of comprehensive financial plan. Implementing Personal
Financial Plan

Module VI: 8 Hours

Regulatory Environment
Government regulations and various regulators like SEBI, IRDA, and ethical issues
involved in Financial Planning.
