Welcome to Math 8 Accelerated Algebra

This course follows a traditional approach to the study of Algebra 1 which is a continuation of
the seventh-grade curriculum. Students’ organizational and problem-solving abilities are
further developed through the application of skills and concepts to new and novel type problems
throughout the curriculum.

Course Content
Equations, literal equations, inequalities, ratio, proportion, percent, polynomials, special
products, factoring, quadratic equations, radicals, algebraic fractions, linear functions and
graphing, modeling of functions, parabolas, writing equations of straight lines in various forms,
systems of equations (graphing and solving), systems of inequalities, direct variation
Student Expectations
 Refer to Class Policy and Procedures Packet handed out the first day of school to
students and which is also posted under Expectations on the website.
Communication
 I will return parent phone calls within 24 hours.
 My webpage includes all HW assignments, assessment information, long term
assignments and all class handouts.
 Webpage includes all grades.
Extra Help
 CALM: staffed each day by a math teacher. My days are Tuesday and Friday.
 Teacher help: during study hall if schedules permit and lunch/recess.
