Estimated Completion Time

The estimated completion time for this lab is 45 minutes.

Lab Topology

Please ensure you read each step carefully before performing the required task in the order described.

username.

Example:  Username NE312 => [POD] = 312

AED Quick Installation Script

NOTE: If you want to view the AED web UI in one browser window, and this lab exercise in a separate
browser windows (and not in a two browser tabs), then:

copy the URL above

open another instance (window) or your web browser
then "paste & go"

resize both of your browser windows to view side-by-side

In this exercise you will complete the quick installation script for the NETSCOUT AED assigned to you, steps
that are typically performed on new AED appliance and virtual machine (VM) platforms after power on.

Important: The quick installation script prompts you to enter values for settings that are required to install
your AED. To respond enter the values provided in each lab step to their corresponding setting. To accept
the default value for a setting just press ‘Enter’, the value in [...] will be applied to that setting. For example, a

setting with the value of [none], pressing enter will apply no value to that setting and the quick installation
script will continue to the next setting.

Also note that when using your browser with the quick installation script, it is recomended that you use your
browser's menu options to paste values into the settings on the CLI page. To use the paste options in your
browser's menu, select from your browser’s File menu, or the the three dot vertical ellipsis or the three line
hamburger menu button, then select Edit > Paste. This process provides the most reliable method to paste
setting values into the CLI page.

1. From your NETSCOUT Experience user dashboard, click on the“Serial Console” link, this will open a new
tab that you will use to connect to the serial console of your AED.

Important: Check your browser's pop-up blocker settings if the new tab does not open.

2. When prompted, enter your NETSCOUT Experience user credentials.

Username: NE102

Password: Kinemumo4^

IMPORTANT: DO NOT TYPE ANYTHING DURING THIS STARTUP until you are prompted, doing so
may cause the data to be cached and may affect the remainder of the install.

Also, first read Steps 3 through 5 prior to performing these three steps. Both Steps 3 and 4 are closely
associated and specific to just this lab environment, and Step 5 happends quickly after the power on of
your AED. You would not need to perform these steps in this manner when installing your own AED.

3. These next steps need to be in sync with your instructor, read each both before proceeding. To
connect to your AED's serial console:
In the Appliance prompt type in AED but DO NOT PRESS ENTER YET
Ask your instructor to power on your AED VM and wait for confirmation...

NOW PRESS Enter to complete Step 3.

As the system boots you may receive one or more messages that reads “Press any key to
continue”, if so, press any key to bring up the grub menu. Otherwise the system will continue to
boot normally. Note: This option fades away quickly and progresses to the GNU GRUB menu, do
not worry it will continue to boot automatically.

If you do not see any text output after 30-45 seconds, notify your instructor.

4. At the GRUB menu, the system should boot automatically from “disk, (serial console)”. Optionally, you
may (re)install from CD, (serial console), but the boot procedures will be slightly different, you would
need to skip to Step 7 below if (re)install from DC, (serial console) selected.

Important: If you see a blank screen for more than 2-3 mins, the system may have completed it’s boot
and the serial console may be waiting for your user input, if you suspect that this may be the situation
for you, then press Enter to display the prompt again.

5. If or when you are prompted with...

“Do you want to begin the install process? This will remove all current data and configuration
[n/y]”, type y and press Enter to proceed.

The installation initializes the system, installs the software, and builds the databases. These steps may
take some time to complete.

6. Wait while the AED installation process prepares the hard drives and installs necessary software
packages.

REMINDER: DO NOT TYPE ANYTHING DURING THE INSTALL until prompted. Doing so may cause the
data to be cached and may affect the remainder of the install.

7. When prompted to Enable FIPS mode, enter n to proceed.

8. When prompted, System hostname enter:  AED102

9. Enter n when asked to set the admin password.

Though it is a best practice to update the default admin password during this step, for this lab you will
update the admin password in a later step for this lab exercise.

10. When prompted, IP address for interface mgt0, enter: 10.2.35.102

https://portal.ne.netscout.com/dashboard/lab_guide/437/45085/ 2/6
14/9/22, 17:53 NE | 1 - Quick Installation Script

Note: This IP must be set correctly to avoid duplicate IPs, and also to access this AED via the web.

11. When prompted, Netmask for interface mgt0, enter: 255.255.240.0

12. Skip the configuration of mgt1 interface by accepting the default setting of [none] and press
Enter when prompted.

For this installation we will only use the mgt0 interface for access and management.

13. When prompted, Default route, enter: 10.2.32.1

14. To allow HTTPS access to this appliance, when prompted https access from which
network? enter: 0.0.0.0/0

If you are asked Do you wish to proceed? enter: y

WARNING: In normal usage, 0.0.0.0/0 allows any device to access the AED console, there are no
access restrictions. Typically your company’s accepted network ranges would be defined to only allow
access from a small number of hosts or networks.

If needed in your network, you may choose to enter more than one network to allow access, for this
lab we are finished and do not need to add any other address.

Next, select the default [done] option by pressing Enter, this ends adding more HTTPS access.

15. To allow ping access, when prompted ping access from which network? enter: 0.0.0.0/0

If you are asked Do you wish to proceed? enter: y

When prompted again confirm no more entries by pressing Enter to accept the default [done] option.

16. We will not be setting cloudsignal access, press Enter to skip this step.

17. To allow SSH access, when prompted ssh access from which network? enter: 0.0.0.0/0

If you are asked Do you wish to proceed? enter: y

When prompted again confirm no more entries by pressing Enter to accept the default [done] option.

18. To configure DNS, when prompted DNS server IP address enter: 10.2.24.46

Continue to the next setting by pressing Enter, this completes adding the DNS server IP

19. To accept the current time and date, press Enter. The current date/time matches actual clock in UTC
and the format is:

MMDDhhmm[[CC]YY][.ss]

MM = Month (two-digit numeric month)

DD = Day (two-digit numeric day i.e. day of month)

hh = Hour

mm = Minutes

CC: First two digits of the year

YY: Last two digits of the year

ss: Seconds

20. To keep the clock in sync with all other devices, when prompted NTP server IP
address enter: 10.2.24.46

Note: You may receive an error message as the system attempts to synchronize the time with the
server. If this occurs, please proceed.

Important NTP considerations for virtual AED (vAED) installations:

vAED does not support NTP on VMware hypervisors, the vAED will synchronize its clock with the
VMware hypervisor, which would have NTP enabled.
You can configure an NTP server for vAED on KVM hypervisors.

When prompted, confirm no more NTP entries to add by pressing Enter.

21. The system now reboots automatically, wait patiently until you are presented with the login prompt. It
may take two-to-four minutes for the lab-based vAED to reboot.
