Section 3 - Hazards Identification

Emergency Overview Not classified as dangerous for supply or conveyance. This product
contains mineral oil and triphenyl phosphate to which exposure limits
apply. Repeated and prolonged skin contact may give rise to dermatitis
and other skin disorders. Risk of high pressure injection injuries if used
in high pressure systems. Spilt product presents a significant slip hazard.

Mineral base oils will not biodegrade in anaerobic conditions and, hence,
can be persistent. This product contains components which have a high
potential to bio-accumulate.
Inhalation
Short term effects Not expected to be harmful under normal conditions of use
Long term effects Excessive and prolonged inhalation of oil mists may cause a chronic
inflammatory reaction of the lungs and a form of pulmonary fibrosis.
Skin
Short term effects Prolonged or repeated contact may cause mild skin irritation. High
pressure skin penetration can cause serious delayed soft tissue damage.
Long term effects Prolonged or repeated contact may cause skin irritation. Skin contact
under conditions of poor hygiene and over prolonged periods can lead
to defatting of the skin, dermatitis, erythema, oil acne and oil
folliculitis. High pressure skin penetration can cause serious delayed
soft tissue damage.
Eyes
Short term effects May cause irritation if in direct contact with eyes
Long term effects No data provided by Supplier
Ingestion
Short term effects Accidental ingestion is unlikely. The main hazard is aspiration into the
lungs resulting from vomiting leading to possibility of chemical
pneumonitis.
Long term effects Hazard of aspiration into the lungs as a result of vomiting. Aspiration
may result in chemical pneumonitis.
Additional data None
Carcinogen Status No data provided by Supplier

Section 4 - First Aid Measures

Inhalation First Aid is not normally required - not a significant route of entry,
however, if casualty is feeling unwell, remove from exposure to fresh air.
Keep at rest. If rapid recovery does not occur, obtain medical attention.
Skin Wash with soap and running water until adequately cleansed. Obtain
urgent medical advice if substance has been injected under the skin.
Should any symptoms or discomfort persist, obtain medical advice.
Contaminated clothing should be removed and laundered or disposed of.
Eyes Irrigate with clean running water for at least 15 minutes ensuring that
eyelids are held open and that eyeballs are rolled back and forth. If one
eye only is affected, care must be taken not to contaminate the other eye
whilst irrigating. If irritation persists, obtain medical attention.
Ingestion If swallowed do NOT induce vomiting since it is important that no
amount of the material should enter the lungs (due to possible risk of
aspiration). Do NOT give anything to drink. If vomiting occurs, keep the
head lower than the hips to prevent aspiration. If a person vomits when

lying on his back, place him in the recovery position. Keep person warm
and quiet and obtain immediate medical assistance.
Antidote No data provided by Supplier
Note to physicians High pressure injection injuries require surgical intervention and possible
steroid therapy to minimise tissue damage and loss of function. Because
entry wounds are small and do not reflect the seriousness of the
underlying damage, surgical exploration to determine the extent of
involvement may be necessary. Local anaesthetics or hot soaks should be
avoided because they can contribute to swelling, vasospasm and
ischaemia. Prompt surgical decompression, debridement and evacuation
of foreign material should be performed under a general anaesthetic and
wide exploration is essential. There may be a risk to health where low
viscosity products are aspirated into the lungs following vomiting,
although this is uncommon in adults. Children and those in whom
consciousness is impaired will be more at risk. Emesis of lubricants is
not usually necessary unless a large amount has been ingested or some
other compound has been dissolved in the product. If this is indicated, for
example when there is rapid onset of CNS depression from a large
ingested volume, gastric lavage under controlled hospital conditions with
full protection of the airway is required. Supportive care may include
oxygen, arterial blood gas monitoring, respiratory support and, if
aspiration has occurred, treatment with corticosteroids and antibiotics.
Seizures should be controlled with Diazepam or appropriate equivalent
drug.

Section 5 - Fire Fighting Measures

on thermal decomposition.

organic and inorganic hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and oxides of
phosphorous.

Section 6 - Accidental Release Measures

Occupational spill Ensure the area is thoroughly ventilated. Wear appropriate PPE (see
Section 8 "Personal Protection"). Contain and cover the spillage with
suitable absorbent material (do not allow to enter drains), collect up,
transfer into appropriate containers, seal and arrange for disposal by
authorised contractor. Remove residue with detergent/cleaner/water if
necessary. Ensure area is clean and dry afterwards.
Reportable quantity No data provided by Supplier
Soil spill Wear appropriate PPE (see Section 8 "Personal Protection"). Prevent
entry to drains or water courses. Spillage should be bunded with a
suitable medium such as sand or earth. The spillage should be reclaimed
directly or in an absorbent medium and then transferred to suitable
clearly marked containers and disposed of in accordance with local
regulations and the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act
1990.
Air spill No data provided by Supplier
Water spill No data provided by Supplier
Additional Avoid subsoil penetration. If drains, sewers, streams or lakes are
information contaminated, inform the local water company immediately. In the case
of contamination of rivers, streams or lakes, the National Rivers
Authority should also be informed. See Section 13 for disposal
information.

Section 7 - Handling and Storage

General Handling Handle container with care. Do not drop and avoid spillages. Handle
only while wearing the necessary protective equipment (see Section 8
"Personal Protection"). Make sure to avoid any possible skin or eye
contact. Never inhale or ingest. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.
Wash hands before and immediately after handling the product. Follow
good industrial hygiene and safety practice.
Storage Store upright in mild steel or high density polyethylene (HDPE)
containers in a cool, dry, well ventilated area out of direct sunlight and
away from sources of heat or ignition. Avoid exposure to extremes of
temperature. Store away from incompatible materials (see Section 10
"Stability and Reactivity"). Keep containers closed when not in use.
Temperature range
0 to 50 °C
for storage

Skin Protection Appropriate chemical-resistant coveralls and footwear. Change contaminated
clothing and clean before re-use.
Hand Protection Appropriate, chemically impervious gloves (type not specified by supplier).
Gloves should be removed and replaced immediately if there is any
indication of degradation or chemical break-through.
Respiratory When excessive air contamination exists, suitable, approved respirators may
Protection be necessary to prevent over-exposure by inhalation. Approved self-

Section 12 - Ecological Information

CNS code
Environmental This product contains one constituent, present at 0.5%, which is
overview classified as dangerous for the environment R51/53 "Toxic to aquatic
organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic
environment". This product contains one constituent, present at < 0.25%,
which is classified as dangerous for the environment R53 "May cause
long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment". The information
given below refers to the mineral oil base component which accounts for
roughly 99% of this product. No ecological information is available on
the other constituents. Air:- this product is a mixture of non-volatile
components which are not expected to be released to the air in any
significant quantities. Water:- if released to water, this product will form
a floating layer on the surface and its components will not evaporate or
dissolve to any great extent. Dissolved components will be absorbed in
sediments. In aerobic water and sediments they will biodegrade slowly
but in anaerobic conditions they will persist. This product is practically
non-toxic to aquatic organisms but contains components which have a
high potential to bio-accumulate and has the potential to physically foul
aquatic organisms. Soil:- small volumes released on land will be
absorbed in the upper soil layers and be biodegraded slowly. Larger
volumes may penetrate into anaerobic soil layers in which the product
will persist and may reach the water table on which it will form a floating
layer. The more soluble components may dissolve but their high soil
