which an organism uses food to support its life. It includes ingestion, absorption,
assimilation, biosynthesis, catabolism and excretion.

Define the following:

1. Sore eyes
➢ Sore Eyes is the common name for conjunctivitis – the inflammation of the thin layer of
tissue covering the front of the eye (the conjunctiva). Allergies and eye infections can
both cause your eyes to feel sore, red and itchy. Often, itchy or irritated eyes can
become sore after excessive rubbing. The eye infection conjunctivitis is a particularly
common cause of sore, red eyes.

2. Chicken fox
➢ Chickenpox is a highly contagious disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV). It
can cause an itchy, blister-like rash. The rash appears first on the chest, back, and face,
and then spreads over the entire body. It can spread through direct contact with the
rash. It can also spread when a person with the chickenpox coughs or sneezes and you
inhale the air droplets.

3. Cholera
➢ Cholera is an acute diarrheal illness caused by infection of the intestine with Vibrio
cholerae bacteria. People can get sick when they swallow food or water contaminated
with cholera bacteria. The infection is often mild or without symptoms, but can
sometimes be severe and life- threatening. Cholera is highly contagious. Cholera can
be transferred person to person by infected fecal matter entering a mouth or by
water or food contaminated with Vibrio cholerae bacteria. The organisms can survive
well in salty waters and can contaminate humans and other organisms that contact or
swim in the water.

4. Tuberculosis
➢ Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by germs that are spread from person to person
through the air. TB usually affects the lungs, but it can also affect other parts of the
body, such as the brain, the kidneys, or the spine. A person with TB can die if they do
not get treatment. This can happen when someone with the untreated, active form
of tuberculosis coughs, speaks, sneezes, spits, laughs or sings

5. Typhoid fever
➢ Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection that can spread throughout the body, affecting
many organs. Without prompt treatment, it can cause serious complications and can be
fatal. It's caused by a bacterium called Salmonella typhi, which is related to the bacteria
that cause salmonella food poisoning. Typhoid fever is a life-threatening illness caused
by Salmonella Typhi bacteria. Paratyphoid fever is a life-threatening illness caused by
Salmonella Paratyphi bacteria.

6. Diarrhea
➢ Diarrhea — loose, watery and possibly more-frequent bowel movements
— is a common problem. It may be present alone or be associated with other
symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or weight loss. Luckily, diarrhea is
usually short-lived, lasting no more than a few days.
