Experience
During my Spanish 475 writing class, I was afforded the opportunity to expand my
Spanish writing skills through the use of planning productive techniques when writing and
researching topics further. The goal was a ten page paper that had a specific step by step
process to show our opinion and beliefs with the use of cited scholarly sources to support these
claims. My topic is why one should study Spanish in the United States; I go into further detail on
this process using attached documents I have on this site. There, you will also see my step
process with greater expansion in each topic. These topics include the following: the
prospectus, annotated bibliography, clarification essay, the draft, voice presentation, and the
final essay. The prospectus was for gathering topics, the annotated bibliography was finding
sources and explaining why they are important for our chosen topic, the clarification essay was
used to really express our point of view on our subject and lastly, the draft, voice presentation
and final essay were used to clearly state and cite our thoughts and perceptions. I can use my
new found information from chosen sources to further my career choice which is to translate
further in healthcare. In addition, my future plans and dreams are to travel to a predominantly
Spanish speaking country to immerse myself in the language. I have also been blessed with an
internship in the healthcare field which made me realize my passion for translation. This course
helped me most with how I am going to present myself for future translation jobs through my
writing. Jobs require a resume and cover letter which involve detailed expanding of skills I have
and presentation of experience and educational achievements. I am excited to see how the
gained knowledge through this course will further my success beyond the classroom.
Discipline
Two important assignments that have helped me understand my field better was my
voice presentation and final paper. I include specific categorized examples on why one should
study Spanish in the United States. Referring back to this document and video, one of my
examples of my topic include that it is a good stepping stone to other languages, meaning
exposure to a new language or understanding reasons and forms of different grammatical use.
although I do not understand any of it, I have decided to start pursuing more knowledge about
this language. The Portuguese speaking patients need translating service just as much as the
Spanish speaking patients. I would have never had the opportunity for this encounter if it were

In my opinion, going outside into the community to help those in need is a rewarding
experience. I can use the information learned from this class in my outside situations through
job applications and translational writing about important documents presented in the
workplace. I chose these two specific examples because I needed a class to help broaden my
spanish language skills when writing, and improve my translational skills for both the English
and Spanish language. These constructed skills are presented through each stage of my writing
I can use this class structure for my future endeavors by choosing concrete explanations
to keep the goal language stay understood and centered. These kinds of explanations help
avoid translation loss and keep the main idea of the message clear. Here is one example that
helps keep ideas short and clear but equal to the goal language and message for the receiver.
At the interpreting internship in the clinic, there is an eligibility process that lets patients know if
they can be admitted to see doctors and providers. There are steps to these qualifications and
one of them includes proof of employment and income. This letter allows patients who receive
job payments through cash to provide this proof needed to move forward with medical services.
My future goals include continuing to study Spanish towards advanced fluency, travel,
and success in my career. I do have a new found passion for translating in the clinic this
semester and I am excited to take my writing skills with me. I will still continue to reach out for
learning opportunities and further my knowledge in the Spanish language. With my bachelor’s
degree, I have the mindset, study habits, and potential to continue with education by applying
for a certificate opportunity in the field of Medical Spanish Translation. I have not completely
decided if this is the route I want to take, but I always know I will keep moving forward.
