A: Introduction:
An ethical dilemma is a situation that involves a conflict between two moral choices. For example, do you save the drowning
old woman or the drowning baby if they are the same distance away? This is an ethical dilemma because they are both
unable to save themselves, but saving neither of them isn't acceptable. Another example would want to feed your starving
family, but in order to do so; you need to steal some food. Should your family starve, or should you steal some bread?

B: ORIGION:
Dilemma is derived from Greek word dilemma means double proposition, is an technical terms di means two and lemma
means premises, so it is derived from di-lemma.

C: Definition of Ethical Dilemma: An individual’s ethical concerns are differential relationships and responsibilities
at the workplace where there are no “correct” rules to follow.
 A situation requiring a choice between equally undesirable alternatives.
 Any confusing situation or problem.
 A situation in which it is difficult to make a decision.

When an ethical dilemma arises in the workplace an employee is faced with what to do. How do they deal with this
situation? The employees have to consider a couple different things when faced with these types of dilemmas. They must
determine who it affects, how it affects, and then the consequences that may arise if they bring it to someone's attention, or
if they do not.

D: Ethical Dilemma and examples:


We can find lots of examples of business ethical decisions and dilemmas arise in areas like:

Advertising, Personal selling, Suppliers, Contracts and Pricing.

Let's take one of the above --- suppliers.

A business cannot claim to be ethical firm if it ignores unethical practices by its suppliers---- e.g.

a) Use of child labor and forced labor

b) Production in sweatshops

c) Violation of the basic rights of workers

d) Ignoring health, safety and environmental standards

An ethical business has to be concerned with the behavior of all businesses that operate in the supply chain --- i.e.

Suppliers, Contractors, Distributors, Sales agents.

E: Levels and types of ethical issues and dilemma's:


Misconduct usually results from the ethical dilemmas and these dilemmas and ethical issue result from pressures that are
experienced at four levels. There are different types of ethical issues and dilemmas which may arise in all the four levels the
four levels are

a) The individual levels, b) The organizational levels, c) The industry levels, d) And the societal, international and global
levels.

F: Ethical issues and potential dilemmas in organization divided into three risks that are:
Severe risk, High risk and guarded risk

1: Severe risk: a) Putting own interest ahead in organization, b) Lying to employees, c) Abusive behavior.

2: High risk: a) Stealing/internet abuse, b) Misreporting hours work, c) lying to stakeholders, d) Discriminations, e) Safety
violation, f) Improper hiring practices, g) Sexual harassment, h) Provision of law quality goods and services.

3: Guarded risk: a) Environmental violation, b) Misuse of confidential organization information, c) Alternation of


documents, d) Alternation of financial records.

What the solution is now


The moral creativity:

The best solution for removing or solving all these ethical issues and dilemmas is to think morally on the overall situation
not in a glance but thoroughly and should be creative mind at that time. Creativity involve to see and study the whole
situation completely and brainstorming on the decision to get the right solution of the situation. Creativity is required to
gain perspective among the different stakeholders and their interest to sort and evaluate harmful effects among
different alternatives actions. Before going to moral creativity these questions should be kept in mind.

Who am I? Who are we and who is the company?

F: A manager should keep in mind the nature of ethics which not only covers the company
inside as well as outside of the company. The following ethical consideration should be in mind
of the management to solve ethical dilemmas:
1: Stakeholder's ethics:

The people and group that supply a company with its productive resources and have claim on its resources. To protect the
right of all these stakeholders by the organization and keep the ethical rights of all these groups and people to provide them
with best possible value and return.

2: Stockholders/ Equity holder ethics:

Stockholders basically the initial investor for the organization and want to secure the interest and return.

3: Managers ethics:

Responsible for using the company financial capital and human resource to increase its performance. Managers have the
rights to expect a good return or reward by investing their human capital to improve a company's performance.

4: Employees ethics:

Companies can act ethically towards employees by creating an occupational structure that fairly and equitably reward
employers for their contributions because employees are the main wall of the company.

5: Suppliers and distributors ethics:

Suppliers expect to be paid fairly and properly for their inputs.

6: Customers ethics:

Customers are the kings of today's market they can tell exactly what is right and satisfactory and what is not. The company
should consider the ethical point of these customers and act accordingly. The company must increase efficiency and
effectiveness in order to increase the loyal customers and new ones.
