Course Description
Art Appreciation is a three-unit course that develops student's ability
to appreciate, analyze, and critique works of art. Through interdisciplinary
and multimodal approaches, this course equips the students with a broad
knowledge of the practical, historical, philosophical, and social relevance
of the arts in order to hone student's ability to articulate their
understanding of the arts. The course also develops student's competency
in researching and curating arts as well as conceptualizing, mounting, and
evaluating art productions. The course aims to develop genuine
appreciation for Philippine Arts by providing them opportunities to explore
the diversity and richness and their rootedness in Filipino culture.

Course Policies
Attendance: The maximum allowable number of absences is 12 hours’ worth of classes
inclusive of tardiness. Excessive absences shall merit the grade of 5.00.Arriving to class more
than 15 minutes late will contribute a tardy. A total of two tardiness will equal to one day
absent. Arriving more than 30 minutes in the class is considered 1 absence. Absence due to
hospitalization maybe an exception but such situation needs the consent and approval of the
Department Coordinator.

Assignments/Projects: These must be submitted on time. Points will be deducted for late
submission. The instructor has the prerogative not to accept incomplete assignments or projects
or if these are submitted more than 2 weeks after the deadline.

Quiz: A short or long quiz may be given as announced or as a surprise quiz, hence, the
student is expected to study lessons in advance. Failure to take the quiz on time will mean a
grade of 0. Special quiz may be given as a consideration to approved absences such as school
activity, recollection/retreat, competition, etc. In case of sickness, appropriate standard
procedures will apply before a special quiz is scheduled.
Course Policies
Recitation: Students are encouraged to participate always in class discussions such as listening
attentively in the class, sharing of ideas or concepts, asking questions related to the topic,
answering questions asked by the faculty and/or colleagues. Additional points will be given by
the teacher for correctly answering questions.

Behavior/Decorum: Students must be in their complete school uniform inside the classroom.
Academic noise must be minimal so as not to disturb other classes. Proper decorum is expected
of all students to establish and maintain harmonious relationship among other students and
faculty members inside the class. The students are expected to remain in class until dismissal.
Class breaks are given with instructor’s approval only.
Major Examinations: Students must be able to take the scheduled major examinations on time.
Latecomers may not be permitted inside the exam room if they arrived more than 30 minutes
late. Special exams will be administered within the week after the examination period. Failure
to take the exam or cheating during the exams will mean a grade of 0.
