How My Mom’s Stay in The Hospital For Her Thyroid Cancer Influenced Me
The visit when my mom was in the hospital for her thyroid cancer, influenced me to be
like the kind nurse and doctor that stayed with my mom, wanting to help people, and seeking a
lot more interest in the medical field. To start, the nurse and doctor at the hospital were very
compassionate and sympathetic. They understood that I was just a kid, and it was hard for me.
They understood that I was very scared since my mom was in the hospital bed and not seeing her
at home was very different. Both the doctor and the nurse would try to comfort me in any way
they could. The doctor or nurse would play some of my favourite songs or talk about things I like
to get my mind off the stress. Moreover, this made me want to help anyone I could. Seeing my
mom in the hospital bed very tired and weak looking made me feel like I couldn't do anything
and all I thought about was wanting to make her feel better. In addition, it made me want to help
people in situations like mine where it was frustrating as you can't do anything or even anyone
that is hurting both physically and mentally. I would never want anyone to feel the same
emotions I felt of having a loved one in danger and feeling helpless. Altogether, I wanted to
know more about the health field. As the doctor would explain my mom's condition, he would
use anatomical words and terms I wouldn't understand. I would tend to ask the doctor a lot of
silly questions about thyroid cancer, and he would always answer every single one of them. One
day, the doctor sat down with me with a diagram of the human body and explained it all to me in
a way that I could understand it. To conclude, this event led me to model the kind doctor and
nurse, helping anyone I could, and wanting to gain all the knowledge I could to go into a health
field profession.
