There are six members in my family: my grandparents, my parents, my

younger brother and me. My father is a bank manager at a bank in Me Linh
District. He is thirty-nine years old. My mother is a bank clerk and she works in a
bank in Quang Minh. She is a few years younger than my father. My younger
brother is eight years old and he is in grade two. I’m three years older than my
brother and I’m in grade five. Everyone in my family is good and happy. My father
and my mother love my younger brother and me very much. When we are free,
we often go shopping. Sometimes my parents also take us to the cinema. They
often help us with our studies and tell us many interesting stories. I love my
family so much.

My best friend’s name is Hoa. She is at the same age as me.

She lives near my house in Hanoi and we often play games and
have activities together. I like her so much because she is very good
and we have the same hobbies like reading books, listening to
music, playing computer games and watching TV. I often meet her at
the weekend to do our homework and play games together. I think
she is forever my good friend.
 Topic 4: My school

I am very happy to tell you about my school. My school’s name

is Quang Minh Primary School. It’s in Hanoi. It is very beautiful and
big. It has three floors, eighteen classrooms and a library. There are
many flowers and trees in my school yard. My school has five
hundred students and thirty-five teachers. Students in my school
are very good. They come from around Me Linh district. Our
teachers are very good and kind. Each day at school is a happy day.
I love my school very much.
 Topic 5: My classroom

I’m in class 5A and my classroom is on the third floor. My classroom is small

and lovely. There are thirty-seven students in my class, twenty boys and
seventeen girls. In the classroom, there are yellow desks, benches and two
boards. There are some pictures on the wall and there is a picture of Uncle Ho.
There is also a bookshelf and a TV. In front of the windows, we can see some
beautiful flower pots. We like our classroom so much and we keep it clean and
tidy.
 Topic 6: Subjects at school

I have seven subjects at school, they are English, Maths,

Vietnamese, Science, Art, Physical Education and Music. The subject
I like most is English, so I always feel happy when I learn English. I
like English because I’m good at it and I can watch English cartoons
on TV and on Youtube. I have English on Monday, Thursday and
Friday. My English teacher often gives us interesting English lessons.
She is very friendly, creative and also very nice. She tries to make the
lessons fun. We often sing English songs and play language games
during lessons. I like these activities very much. I think that English is
always my favourite subject.

Topic 7: Activities before school.

I often get up at five o’clock in the morning. Then I get dressed (mặc
quần áo)and wash my face. I have a big breakfast with my parents and my
younger brother at home. After breakfast I have a rest for about ten minutes.
Then at about a quarter past six, my father takes me to school in his car. I
always go to school before seven o’clock because my classes start at seven
fifteen.

Topic 8: My hobbies.

My hobby is playing sports, I can swim and play badminton.

My favorite sport is swimming. The swimming center is near my
house, so in the summer, I often go there with my best friend every
Sunday and when I have free time. I sometimes go to the
swimming center with my father, my father also likes swimming. I’m
interested in swimming, I think swimming is a good hobby because
it helps me feel relaxed and healthier.

I’d like to tell you about my daily activities. In the

morning, I often get up at five thirty. After getting up, I
brush my teeth, wash my face and then I have breakfast.
At six forty I go to school. In the breaktime I often talk
to my friends, sometimes we play games like skipping
rope and playing marbles. I come back home at four
thirty in the afternoon. In the evening I often do my
homework, and sometimes when I have free time I
watch my favorite cartoons on TV. I often go to bed at
ten o’clock.

I am a student at Quang Minh Primary School. I’m in

class 5A. In my class, there are forty-two students, twenty-two
girls and twenty boys. Hoa is our monitor. She is my best
friend, too. She is at the same age as me. She is kind and good-
looking. She is good at English and sings beautifully. Hoa lives
near my house. She lives with her parents and her elder sister.
Every day, I and Hoa go to school together. We both love our
class and teachers.

I have breakfast every morning and I usually
have breakfast with my parents at home. I often eat
rice with meat and vegetables, and then I have a
glass of orange juice, sometimes I drink milk. My
favourite food is vegetables, they taste very
delicious. My favourite drink is orange juice
because it tastes good. My mother often makes
orange juice for me. I think orange juice is good for
skin. Orange juice is also very good for my body
and my health. I often drink orange juice when it is
hot. I like vegetables and orange juice very much.

 I am from Me Linh District, Ha Noi. Each year there are
four seasons in my neighborhood: spring, summer, autumn
and winter. In the spring, the weather is a little cold. In the
summer, the weather is hot. In the autumn the weather is cool
and in winter, the weather is cold. I really love spring because
the weather is warmer and the countryside becomes greener. I
love watching new flowers in my garden in the spring. In this
season, my parents often take me to visit some interesting
places. I love the weather and activities in the spring.

Talk about your study at school

I am a good student in my class. I like many subjects and

my favourite subject is English. I started to learn English when I
was five years old. Now I can speak English, I can watch English
cartoons on TV. During English lessons, we practice four
language skills (bốn kĩ năng ngôn ngữ): listening, speaking,
writing and reading. We often play language games (các trò chơi
ngôn ngữ) and sing songs. I love my English lessons at school.

I would like to tell you about my weekend.

My birthday was on Saturday last weekend, the
weather was sunny that day, so my parents took
me and my younger brother to go around in their
car. We went to the cinema to watch my favorite
cartoon series. Then we ate in a restaurant and
had delicious food and drink. After that we went
shopping and my mother bought me some
comics. That day I was very happy because I
had many interesting activities.

Talk about your country

 I live in Vietnam. There are four seasons in my country. The
weather is hot in the summer. There are a lot of beautiful beaches,
forests and mountains in my country. It is very interesting to visit
Vietnam in the summer, there are many interesting places.  You
can visit Sa Pa to feel cold fresh air (không khí mát lạnh trong
lành). You can go to Hue to hear folk songs (dân ca) . I think the
best place to go on holiday is Ha Long Bay, it is a nice place, you
can also visit beautiful mountains here.

Topic 16: Last Summer Vacation

 Last summer vacation, I went to Da Nang beach with my family. My
family went swimming together. We ate seafood in big restaurants. Then we
visited Ba Na Hill and played many interesting games. We bought some
souvenirs for ourselves and for my best friends. In the evening, the weather
is very cool, the sky has a lot of light stars. We took a minibus to Da Nang
Market at night. After a day with many interesting activities, we came back
to the hotel. We stayed in Da Nang for three days. Our last summer vacation
was wonderful.

Talk about your activities at school

My classes start at seven fifteen in the morning every

weekday. We listen to the teachers and do exercises during lessons.
During breaktime, some boys play marbles, some boys play football.
There are some boys and some girls talking to each other under the
trees. Some students read books or comics. Some girls skip rope. I
often skip ropes with my friends in the playground and I like the
breaktimes very much. My classes finish at four twenty in the
afternoon. I love my lessons and activities at school.

I am going to have a picnic next weekend with my family.

We are going to Ha Noi Zoo for one day. My father is going to
take us there in his car. We will bring food, fruit and water along
with us (Gia đình em sẽ mang theo đồ ăn, trái cây và nước). We
are going to walk around the place and buy somethings we like
(Gia đình em sẽ đi chơi xung quanh nơi đó và mua những thứ gì
mình thích). We are going to eat ice cream because I like ice cream
very much. We are going to play some interesting games there and
take some photos (chụp vài bức ảnh). We are going to come back
home late in the afternoon (lúc chiều muộn).

Topic 19: The School Festival

We had the Teacher’s Day four months ago. There were many teachers and
students in the schoolyard. Flowers were everywhere. Many students danced and
sang many beautiful songs. Some students told interesting stories about their
teachers. Some students played exciting games. Some boys played football. I gave
my teachers nice flowers. My friends and I enjoyed the celebration very much.
 Topic 20: My hometown
Talk about the place where you was born , using the guiding questions:

3. Is it noisy or quiet?
4. is there a hospital/a post office / a supermarket or other places in your
country?
5. Do you love your hometown?

I was born in a big and famous city, Ha Noi. It is noisy

here but I like my city very much. First, there are a lot of big
companies and offices, there are also hospitals, a post office
and a supermarket near my house. Second, there are a lot of
interesting activities here like going shopping, to the cinema,
playing in the parks. Third, people from many places live and
work here, they are very good and hard-working. I love my
beautiful hometown and I will live in this city forever.

My hobby is reading comics. My favourite comic book is

Doraemon. There are many characters in this book, Suka is the
character I like best because she is good and nice and I don’t like
Seko because he is naughty. I like reading the series because they
have many interesting stories. I often read these comics at home or
in class when I have free time. I have many useful lessons when I
read Doraemon and reading it makes me feel relaxed.
