FUNDAMENTALS OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING (BME101)
________________________________________________________________

Q.1: Determine the resultant of forces acting on a body as shown in fig.

Q.2: Three concurrent, coplanar forces act on a body at O. Determine two additional forces
along OA and OB such that resultant of the five forces is zero.

Q.3: A 500N cylinder is supported by the frame ABC, which is hinged at A and rests
against wall AD. Determine the reactions against contact surfaces A, B, C and D.
Q.4: Find the resultant of the force system shown in fig. below.

Q.5: For given arrangement find sag BD. Neglect friction.

Q.6: What force and moment is transmitted to the supporting wall?

Q.7: Find the reactions at supports A and B.

Q.8: Find the reactions R1, R2 and R3 in the case of two beams placed one over the other
as shown in fig. below.

Q.9: A circular metal bar of 28 mm diameter carries an axial tensile force of 50 kN. If the
extension over a length of 2.5 m of the bar was found 0.625 mm, find (a) the tensile stress
induced in the metal, (b) modulus of elasticity.

Q.10: A stepped bar is shown in fig. What is the maximum axial load that bar can carry if
the permissible tensile stress and elongation are 140 MPa and 0.3 mm respectively. Take
modulus of elasticity as 200 GPa.
