Mass media: International Newspapers

and TV channels
Great television keeps your finger off the remote control and great online journalism invites
you to make that news page your new home page.”
- Andrew Boyd
All of us are connected through different mediums of communication
One such medium to know about the happenings of the world is news which keeps us updated
with day to day events all around the world
Thankfully we live in the era of globalisation where internet helps us to communicate to a large
number of people in a more efficient way. For example, we may now download newspapers
from around the world in just a few seconds or may subscribe to their respective webpages
Many important stories get ‘drive-by’ coverage, when what they deserve after the big moment
is patient attention, forensic reporting which reveals injustice, or gives a voice to the silenced.
News organisations must never de-prioritise the vital skill of finding things out, getting to the
facts, and reporting them clearly which is vital for democracy, for fairness and to demand
better from the powerful.
Here are some of the famous international newspapers which transcends the boundaries of
nations and aid in visualizing the world as a whole.

The Guardian

One of the top international newspapers is The Guardian which ranks among the top 10
international newspapers o the world.
The Guardian is a British daily newspaper. It was founded in 1821 as The Manchester Guardian,
and changed its name in 1959 201 years ago.Along with its sister papers The Observer and The
Guardian Weekly, The Guardian is part of the Guardian Media Group, owned by the Scott
Trust.. The trust was created in 1936 to "secure the financial and editorial independence of The
Guardian in perpetuity and to safeguard the journalistic freedom and liberal values of The
Guardian free from commercial or political interference. It has itself claimed it to be of centre left
view.
Guardian News and Media’s editor-in-chief, Katharine Viner, said the business model was
showing a new way for journalism to “regain its relevance, meaning and trusted place in
society”.
Viner told the Society of Editors’ annual conference in Salford that many contributors have
donated to support Guardian because they wanted the Guardian to stay free and outside a
paywall, so “progressive journalism can have the widest possible impact”. This was helped by
the fact that any money made by the Guardian has to be spent on journalism, because of our
ownership structure with no shareholders or owner.
Viner used her speech to highlight the Guardian’s commitment to investigative reporting on
topics such as the Windrush scandal while calling for news organisations to collaborate more
and commit to in-depth reporting.

The Wall Street Journal

American business-focused, international daily newspaper based in New York City, with
international editions also available in Chinese and Japanese. The Journal has been printed
continuously since its inception on July 8, 1889, by Charles Dow, Edward Jones, and Charles
Bergstresser. The Wall Street Journal is one of the largest newspapers in the United States by
circulation, with a circulation of about 2.834 million copies . Regularly scheduled sections include
everyday, corporate news, money and investing, marketplace, real estate etc.
speak for free markets and free people. The Wall Street Journal was considered the third most-
accurate and fourth most-unbiased news organization among the general public, however it
has been accused for some of its stances like holding China accountable for the surge of Covid
19.

we live in.
