Novel review

Jannat kay pattay:

Story setup:
The story of “Jannat kay pattay” is not something which focuses on one themed
story, and that's what makes it different from other typical novels. As it is a very thick
book and the lines are also not lengthy, so you have a lot of words to read, and in
the end you'll think that this shouldn't end this much early.Half of the story is set in
Pakistan and half of it in Turkey, and i can bet you'll write Turkey in your bucket list
for sure after reading this.

About:
“Jannat Kay Pattay” revolves around a modern girl named "Haya Suleiman" who
lives in a so-called typical cultural society. She got admission in Sabanci university
of Istanbul, and somehow got permission from her parents as well to go there all
alone. She was accompanied by one of her college mate Khadija (nicknamed DJ) to
Sabanci whom she didn't like at first but slowly they both become best of friends.
Her aunt also lives in Istanbul with whom her family don't have such good relations
with due to some personal issues. When she was 8 years old, she tied knot with her
aunt's son Cihan (In Turkish C is pronounced as J) so that two families will always
have a connection because of their relation, but in these 22 years, Cihan and Haya
have never met and now Haya's parents want her to end this namely relation with
him. There is also something which stops Haya to end this relation with Cihan. She
asked a grace period of 5 months from her father. She promised that after coming
from Istanbul, she will meet Cihan and if she thinks nothing had left between both of
them, she will end the relationship, but she wants to give it a last chance and at
least for once to clarify the unsung relation of 22 years.

Beautiful location:
Nimra Ahmed has an amazing skill of portraying the image of any place in reader's
mind. When i was reading the book, it was so badly stuck in my mind that I was
randomly recalling the story. So, it's a novel with a massive impact. All the beautiful
scenarios of Turkey such as Istanbul, Capadocia, Istiqlal street, Blue Mosque,
Jawahir mall, Taksim Square and so on are mentioned in this novel. It is one of the
few books which has really well written locational backgrounds.

Characters:
Having beautiful locations, this masterpiece also contains some unbelievably
strange but mind blowing characters, like Major Ahmed, a Pakistani army officer
who makes creative puzzle box to make Haya see the reality of her life, ARP, a
mysterious character who sent white roses to Haya claiming to be her biggest lover.

Patriotic theme:
This story is not only about a modern girl, but also about a secret spy agent, Cihan
(Haya's Husband), who secretly works for his country. Such brave men die with no
rewards except great pride because they've done something that could benefit their
country. It is so well written that you'll definitely feel pride in the efforts of the people
that do whatever they can to make our lives peaceful.

Connection to our roots:

This book can really connect you to your roots, from where you really are. The
transformation of a modern classic girl to a hijabi girl was tremendous to read. The
way she connects to Allah, how she found the meaning of life, how she solves the
riddles of Surah-e-Ehzab and found the mystery in Quran verses, how only one
verse of Quran changed her life. The pure characters like Ayeshegul made Haya
realize how "Good girls" live their lives independently according to Islam.

Some of my favourite lines from “Jannat Kay Pattay”:

"cheezen waqti hoti hain. Toot jati hain, bikhar jati hain,
rawaiye daimi hote hain, sadiyon k liye apna asar chor jate
hain."

"Agar zindagi hai toh sab khobsorat hai, nahin toh sab andhair
hai."

"Aag sai usai darna chahiye jis k pas Allah ko dikhane k liye koe
acha amal na ho."
"Har shaks ki zindagi mai aik aisa lamha zaroor ata ha, jb wo
tabahi kai dahane pr khara hota ha, or is kai raz khulne wale
hote hain, or is waqt jab wo khouf kai koh-e-tor pai khara
kapkapa rha hota hai toh Allah ise bacha leta ha, bs tm wahi kro
jo wo kehta hai, phir wo wohi krega jo tm kehti ho."

"Yeh jo Allah sai hmara fasla ajata haina, ye seedhi sarak ki

tarah nhi hota, ye pahar ki tarah hota hai, isko bhag kar tai
krne ki koshish krogi toh jaldi thak jaogi, jist lgaogi toh
drmiyan mai gir jao gi, urne ki koshish krogi toh hawa saath nhi
degi."

"Jo Allah se darta hai Allah is kai lye rasta nikal deta hai."

"Mai Rehman kai bande ko khush krne kai lye Rehman ko naraz
nhi krskti."

"Jo jitna acha jhoot bolta hai, ye dunya usi ki hoti hai, lekin phir
iski akhirat nhi hoti."
