Position Sensor (Tilt Linkage) - Calibrate

SMCS - 5736-524-T2 ; 7601-524-PSN

Calibration of the tilt linkage position sensor must be performed after any of the following events occur:

z Performance of Testing and Adjusting, RENR9788, "992K Wheel Loader Electrohydraulic

System", "Position Sensor (Tilt Linkage) - Set" procedure

z a "SNSR ERR" service code

z an "ABOVE RANGE" or "BELOW RANGE" service code

z replacement of the implement electronic control module (ECM)

Note: The messages that appear on the VIMS message screen may differ from the messages that are
listed in this procedure.

ReferenceFor more information on messages that appear on the VIMS message screen, refer to the
"Calibration Messages" section of the Service manual module Testing and Adjusting, "Glossary of
Terms" in this manual.

1. Inspect the area around the machine in order to ensure proper clearance that will allow the bucket
to be fully raised and fully lowered. The area must be clear so that the bucket can be fully raised
and fully lowered during the calibration.

2. Start the engine and run the engine at low idle.

Note: The hydraulic oil temperature must be above 30°C (86°F) before preceding with the
calibration.

Right Console

(2) Keypad.

3. Press the "menu" button on the right console. Use the "arrow" buttons on the right console to
navigate to the appropriate calibration. Press the "OK" button on the right console in order to
select the calibration.

4. Engage the parking brake. The ECM will tell the VIMS monitor to display the next step when the
parking brake is set.

Note: If the parking brake is released during the test, the VIMS display will return to Step 1. The
parking brake must be reset before preceding.

Note: After this step is completed the software of the machine will disable all control features for
example: kickouts and feather catch.

5. The VIMS display will instruct the operator to raise the bucket to the stops. This is commonly
referred to as the rack back position of the bucket. The operator will then select the "next (right
arrow)" button.

6. The VIMS display will instruct the operator to raise the linkage to the upper stops. After the stops
have been reached the operator will push the "next" button.

Note: The software will store the value of the PWM at the high end of the linkage travel as the
high limit. The high duty cycle range is 50 to 95 percent. The software confirms that the measured
value is within the range of the validation. If the measured values are not within the calibration
range the calibration fails. The levers are forced to "non calibrated" status and the default values
are used. The default value at the full high position is 90 percent.

7. The VIMS display will now instruct the operator to lower the linkage to the lower stops. After the
stops have been reached the operator will push the "next" button.

Note: The software will store the value of the PWM at the low end of the linkage travel as the low
limit. The low duty cycle range is 5 to 50 percent. The software confirms that the measured value
is within the range of the validation. If the measured values are not within the calibration range the
calibration fails. The levers are forced to "non calibrated" status and the default values are used.
The default value at the full lower position is 10 percent.

Note: The software will now return all control features to normal operation.
