Octopus Announces Social Media and Field Editing Features for its Newsroom Solution

Previewed at IBC, a number of new features are now available for Octopus’s newsroom application.
These include the news sector’s most advanced social media hub and an incredibly intuitive video
trimmer tool, designed to put journalists in control.

The new social media hub unleashes the full potential of social networks as a real-time information
source. Journalists can track trending topics over different time periods to assess the importance
and staying power of a particular news item. Crucially, it can be set to analyse trends from particular
geographies to ensure that information is relevant to local audiences.

“The social hub does so much more than track followers and general trends. The Octopus system
now lets journalists use Twitter as a real-time meter of public interest. The hub is unmatched in its
ability to reveal emerging stories in individual regions or to gauge whether subjects have lasting
appeal with particular audiences.” Said Miro Rusko, Sales Manager for Asia, Pacific and Middle East
of Octopus Newsroom.

The latest version of Octopus also includes a new video trimmer tool which is designed to accelerate
the news production workflow. A rough cut made on location is instantly shared with the news
editors in the studio: this puts journalists in control of their story and saves the production desk
considerable time cutting and compiling stories. As well as enhancing the broadcast workflow, this
feature also gives journalists the opportunity to create and send 30-second clips direct to Twitter, a
way of instantly connecting the channel with followers. Finally, an optional ActiveX component links
an NLE to the Octopus client, making full editing in the field a reality.

These and other features are now available to new and existing Octopus7 users.
