1. Find the value of x of each of the following by using cross-multiplication method.

2. The currency exchange rate of Malaysian Ringgit to United States Dollar is RM380
for every USD100. A dealer exchanges USD1 500 to Malaysian Ringgit. Find the
total amount of money, in RM, that he received.

3. Minah has 22 m of ribbon. She uses 6.5 m of the ribbon and the remaining ribbon is
sold to Rosnah at a price of 40 sen per metre. How much does Rosnah need to pay,
in RM, for the ribbon?

The diagram shows a cuboid water tank. If water is filled into the water tank at a rate
of 5 000 cm3 per minute, calculate the time taken, in hours, for the water tank to be
filled up.

5. A housewife paid RM20.80 for 8 kg of sugar.


(a) How much does she need to pay, in RM, for 18 kg of sugar?
(b) If she paid RM39, what is the mass of the sugar, in kg, she will get?

6. A water pump can fill up a 40 000-litre container in 100 minutes.


(i) Calculate the time taken, in minutes, to fill up a 6 000-litre container.
(ii) If the water pump is operated for 1 hour, what is the volume of water, in litres,
that has been pumped?

7. The rate of a parking lot in a hotel is RM2.00 for the first hour. Every subsequent
half an hour or a part thereof is RM0.60.
(i) Ramesh parked his car for 2 3 hours. Calculate the total amount of money, in
RM, that he needs to pay. 4

(ii) If one of the guests paid RM9.20, what is the maximum duration, in hours, the
guest parked his car at the parking lot?

8. Residential tariff Rate per unit


 For the first 200 units per month 20 sen
  For each additional unit per month 24 sen

The table shows the tariff rate for electricity usage at a residential home:
(a) If Mr Lim’s family used 250 units in a particular month, calculate his electricity
bill, in RM.
(b) Encik Johari pays RM78.40 for his electricity bill this month. Calculate the
number of units used this month.
