WUTHERING HEIGHTS
Emily Bronte
“He’s more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are
made of his and mine are the same”.
The book “Wuthering Heights” needs no approbation
from my side. As this wonderful piece of literature
success is in it continuing to be acclaimed, read and
appreciated world-wide. The simplicity of the plot and
the complexity of the characters make the book even
more alluring to the readers. While the novel is often
regarded in a poor light for its flawed characters, the
novel is actually improved because of the immortality
and dramatic behaviour.
Not all in life is clear and not all in life is loving
characters in a book. Life is also about hatred, blood,
despair, broken words and selfishness. This honest,
perplexing book is about two characters, Heathcliff and
Catherine Earnshaw, without any makeup. They are
raw, monstrous at times and fantastically memorable.
They love each other, yet, they enjoy making the other
suffer. Emily was so brave to tell an original story, she
created characters that go deep, that get you and
bewitch you. Wuthering Heights is believed to be a
romantic love story but on the contrary this book
describes what and how love shouldn’t be. Their
unfulfilled love and obsession seeks revenge ruining
everything possible. The author dares to venture in the
dark side of love, something very unusual in that era.
It’s a beautiful book. It shows a realistic side of love,
not the classic “and then they lived happily ever after”.
It shows that love is tragic and is not attained easily.
This book is filled with tragedy and darkness and there
are no happy moments. But then it gives a different
perspective of life and people. It has also confirmed my
belief that the heart is as much capable or hatred as it
is capable of love. This book is must, a complex and
dark journey into cold landscapes of the soul.
