Introduction

A business management system (BMS) refers to top-level tools adopted by an

organization to help make decisions during the planning and implementation of the

organization's strategies (Brocke & Rosemann, 2015). The strategies entail the processes,

policies, guidelines, procedures, practices, and any other activity related to the management of

the organization. A Business Management system will give a reliable procedure to successfully

implement strategic and tactical decisions for the organization to ensure that the goals of the firm

are met as well as satisfying all customer needs. A good BMS gives managers a tool for

planning, controlling, and monitoring various processes to ensure continuous improvement of the

organization and improved business performance.

Fujitsu UK & Ireland employs over 9,000 employees and integrates information, people

and infrastructure through advanced digital technologies (Fujitsu UK : Moving Forward for a

Sustainable World, n.d.). The company pays keen interest to the management of its resources

using a reliable BMS approach. The approaches include the use of policies that ensure

employees and other stakeholders adhere to socially acceptable practices.

Question 1: Fujitsu UK & Ireland BMS

The BMS of Fujitsu UK & Ireland clearly defines the nature of the business conducted by

the organization. Through different policies, the organization complies with the laws of

particular countries in which it has operations. At Fujitsu UK & Ireland, the Chief Executive

Officer (C.E.O) takes the responsibility to stipulate various ethical aspects of the

organization(Operating Practices : Fujitsu UK, n.d.-a). The C.E.O ensures that all employees are

educated about the policy and comply with laws at all times. As a result, it increases Fujitsu UK

& Ireland's trust, confidence, and reputation in the face of all stakeholders.

Fujitsu UK & Ireland Code of Ethics

The policy is associated with;

Compliance with laws

Every employee is required to comply with the laws applicable to organizations,

governments, statuses, or treaties. The employees are educated to understand the necessary laws

that pertain to the operation of the business and by all means, Fujitsu does not violate the laws

through the actions of the employees (CODE OF ETHICS POLICY Policy Statement, 2012).

Human Rights

Fujitsu UK & Ireland complies with the United Nations principles regarding human

rights and ensures that all stakeholders are treated fairly and respected (CODE OF ETHICS

POLICY Policy Statement, 2012).

Competition

The company ensures that it engages in fair competition in all the markets it operates. All

the company employees ensure that they comply with the relevant regulations regarding

competition in a timely and proper manner (CODE OF ETHICS POLICY Policy Statement,

2012).

Property Rights Policy

Fujitsu UK & Ireland safeguards the intellectual properties of its business and those of

partner companies. The corporation recognizes its intellectual rights and ensures that it upholds

the respective rights of others. There is an Intellectual Property Management Policy that

stipulates the rules followed when handling intellectual property rights (Operating Practices :

Fujitsu UK, n.d.-b).

Bribery

Fujitsu UK & Ireland operates based on the prices and quality of its solutions and

products. All stakeholders are prohibited from taking or giving any bribe in form of monetary

value, or any form. Employees linked to Fujitsu through intermediaries, consultants, or any other

third must as well comply with the bribery regulations at all times (CODE OF ETHICS POLICY

Policy Statement, 2012).

Conflicts of Interest

Employees or any stakeholder are restricted by Fujitsu UK & Ireland not to engage in a

situation that violates the interests of the organization or those of other stakeholders. On

suspicion of such conflict, the affected parties must immediately report to the line manager. The

policy also requires all employees, despite their levels and ranks not to use their role position,

corporates facilities, or information to behave in ways that are contrary to the company’s

obligations, or gain benefits for their relatives, friends, or themselves (CODE OF ETHICS

POLICY Policy Statement, 2012).

Insider Trading

The corporation requires all employees to comply with the policies restricting insider

trading of Fujitsu Securities. Consequently, employees should be keen to ensure that they don’t

breach such laws or involve themselves in the dealings (CODE OF ETHICS POLICY Policy

Statement, 2012).

Asset and Financial Protection

Fujitsu UK & Ireland stipulates financial and accounting procedures that must be

observed in all dealings. Any payment advanced to third parties must be duly authorized and

transparent according to the organization’s accounting and authorization procedures. The policy

also restricts employees to lease, dispose or use the organization’s assets for other purposes

except transactional purposes related to Fujitsu’s businesses (CODE OF ETHICS POLICY

Policy Statement, 2012).

Confidentiality

Employees are required to comply with the policies that ensure private information

regarding customers or employees is adhered to. The corporation’s confidentiality policies are

applicable in countries that do not have such laws, as long as Fujitsu UK & Ireland operates in

Political Payments and Activities

Fujitsu UK & Ireland restricts donations of any form to political parties, people, or

offices. In cases of political donations, Fujitsu requires (CODE OF ETHICS POLICY Policy

Communication

The corporation has the responsibility to ensure that the policy is communicated to all

employees and respective stakeholders (CODE OF ETHICS POLICY Policy Statement, 2012).

Implementation

Employees are expected to raise concerns or questions regarding the Code of Ethics

policy to the respective line managers. Unethical conduct must be then reported to the respective

line managers and no tolerance for any employee who violates the policy (CODE OF ETHICS

Fujitsu UK & Ireland Health & Safety Policy

The BMS at Fujitsu UK & Ireland ensure that they take all measures for protecting the

health of all employees. The policy also ensures the protection of the health of all those in

contact with the corporation’s business. The management recognizes the improved employee

performance associated with observed health standards. All the stakeholders are expected to

discharge their safety and health responsibilities effectively, ensuring that all of them understand

and manage safety standards (HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY Policy Statement, n.d.).

To effectively achieve the management of health and safety at the company, Fujitsu UK

& Ireland fosters a culture that prioritizes safety, well-being, and health of employees, as well as

ensuring reduced injury risks at the workplace. The organization actively manages safety and

health risks by promoting attitudes regarding the identification and reduction of risks. Fujitsu UK

& Ireland creates awareness among all employees concerning safety and health, developing a

competitive workforce that prioritizes health and safety. In addition, the organization sets and

documents the necessary objectives regarding health and safety and communicates to the

The Health & Safety Policy is approved by the board of the company. the board ensures

that the company operates while observing the highest safety and health standards. The board

members ensure that the policy is effectively implemented in their respective business units.

There is also the Fujitsu Safety Management System which is approved by the board to stipulate

rules and regulations for implementing the health and safety policies in the organization

Digital Business Solutions

Fujitsu UK & Ireland has developed a set of innovative solutions to its business process

that delivers agile results. There are the Minimum Viable Products and Proofs of Business

solutions that integrate innovative technologies to provide the best customer services. Fujitsu's

digital business solution uses advanced digital technologies such as blockchain, quantum

computing, IoT, embedded entrepreneurial culture, and analytics to continuously accelerate the

Fujitsu differentiates from competitor companies by providing its customers with an

continuous improvement of the existing business processes. The company’s Human-Centric

Experience Design (HXD) initiative allows delivery and management of digital changes. The

HXD provides Fujitsu with the following benefits;

solutions. Fujitsu invests heavily in digital technologies, especially the addition of €4 million to

its Global innovation center in Vancouver. The center is meant to increase the company’s

strategic decisions regarding artificial intelligence.

Fujitsu has utilized digital technologies such as Robotics Process Automation (RPA) to

the workplace, thus reducing injuries and deaths in the workplace. The management, especially

the senior executive such as the board of directors should be drivers of implementing successful

BMS in an organization. As from the Fujitsu case, the management and the board of directors

ensure that the policies are effectively implemented and the necessary measures are taken to

ensure continual improvement of the business processes. The public sector should emulate

Fujitsu by giving the senior management the responsibility to implement, measure, and control

the performance of the BMS approaches.

improve service delivery in various economic sectors. AI & Analytics can be used by local

security agencies to improve security in the respective locations. Similarly, firms can use

The BMS approach adopted by Fujitsu plays a critical role in determining its success.

The company operates in a competitive market, but through the use of various policies that

govern its operations, Fujitsu has managed to achieve prosperity in the various markets. The

policies and processes at Fujitsu are top management responsibilities ensuring that they are

effectively implemented and managed. There is the use of a top-down approach, ensuring

reports regarding the policies also ensure appropriate policies are implemented.

The process framework and the BMS at Fujitsu are linked based on the market nature in

which the organization operates. The market is associated with rapid changes and is often

market conditions. Managers in different countries adopt different policies and do not depend on

framework of Fujitsu focuses on aligning the various processes to the operating model of the

firm, but ensuring only a single manager is responsible for every process. BMS deployment at

Sustainability is the heart of Fujitsu UK & Ireland business operations. The company

believes that for it to succeed, there is a need to support society with its active technologies and

contexts and complies with legal and ethical practices governing business operations in various

contexts. The BMS should be deployed effectively and business processes linked with the BMS
