Getting Exported TEMS Data into Actix Solutions

Introduction
The TEMS Investigation text export1 provides a means for obtaining TEMS2 drive-test data in spreadsheet format for ad-hoc data analysis. Due to changes Ericsson has made to the TEMS format, this text export method must be used in order to load the following TEMS Investigation files into Actix Analyzer post processing software: Investigation GPRS 4.0.x and 4.1 Investigation EDGE 1.0.1 and 1.1

The following sections provide detailed instructions for exporting TEMS drive test data for analysis in Actix Analyzer. Updating Analyzer Software to Support the TEMS Export File Format Analyzer must be updated to the latest release to ensure close compatibility with the TEMS Export File format. If you are unsure of the software version you are running, or if you do not have these updates, please contact Actix Support through the information listed below. http://support.actix.com/ support@actix.com

Actually, in addition to the TEMS Text Export, TEMS supports several other export formats (including MapInfo and ArcView), but these are more restricted than the text export and are not discussed here. 2 TEMS is a trade mark of Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson

Exporting the Logfile From TEMS Investigation Export the logfile from TEMS Investigation for analysis in Actix Analyzer using the following procedure: 1) Open TEMS Investigation. It is not necessary to open the logfile in TEMS. 2) From the main menu, select Logfile Export Logfile. 3) Select the Add Order button. 4) Set the file format to Text File. 5) Specify the input logfile, and the output file location of the exported file (leaving the destination as default will place the exported file into an export folder in the same location as the original log file). To export multiple logfiles to a single output file, select the Merge output check box. If you intend to simultaneously load data from multiple contiguous files with the same devices into Analyzer, Actix suggests using this Merge option as it will improve analysis and visualization performance by using less memory. 6) Set the file extension to *.FMT. 7) Choose the Setup button to specify the Information Elements to export. Use the Load button on this tab to import a template file (See Appendix A) a. If you are a GPRS user, be aware that templates from TEMS GPRS 4.0.x do not work with TEMS GPRS 4.1 and vice versa. We have provided GPRS 4.0.x/EDGE 1.x and GPRS 4.1 templates for your use. For best results, Actix strongly recommends using the DataPlus template provided (see Appendix A). 8) If adding parameters manually, array-based parameters must be added once for each array element desired in the final output. For example, the Neighbor RxLev (dBm) (Sorted) parameter must be added to the attribute list 6 separate times to make RxLev of the first 6 neighbors available as parameters in Analyzer. The tables in Appendix B of this document provide the mapping of each TEMS Investigation parameter to the Actix equivalent. 9) For GPRS and EDGE users, the correct export options must be selected to ensure valid data display within Actix software. The correct options are selected in the latest pre-configured templates. If alternate templates or parameter lists are used, use the following table to determine which options must be selected on the Options tab in order to ensure correct importation.

10) After specifying the parameters for import, return to the primary Export Logfile dialog and start the conversion process. Note that as the exported file does not include a date reference, Analyzer will take the following steps to determine the correct date: a. If the original raw log file is found in the current folder, Analyzer will extract the correct date from that file. b. If the original binary log file is found in the parent directory and the current directory is named export, Analyzer will extract the correct date from that file. c. If neither of the above is true, Analyzer will use the last modified date of the export file. 11) Open the exported file (.FMT) into Actix Analyzer.

Opening the Exported Data in Actix Analyzer Once the export process is complete, the exported logfile may be opened in Actix Analyzer using the Open Logfile button. All exported parameters will be available for each data stream in the logfile. The exported parameters will either be available as standard Actix attributes (see Appendix B) or set as vendor specific Tems attributes under the workspace tree E icon.

Wherever possible, Actix provides parameters based on standard layer 3 messaging. These parameters will either supersede Tems specific attributes or supplement them. * Tems does not differentiate EDGE BEP and CV based on modulation type. Actix decodes BEP and CV values based on the presence of layer 3 messaging into the following attributes:

RMAC_8PSK_CV_BEP RMAC_8PSK_MEAN_BEP RMAC_GMSK_CV_BEP RMAC_GMSK_Mean_BEP

The Tems EDGE BEP and CV are included as Actix vendor specific attributes.

** The single Actix array attribute is created from the combination of these two
attributes.
