Right to Health

“And when I am ill, it is he who cures me.” This is Ayat Ash-Shu’ara 26:80 from the Quran. A phrase
so simple yet deepened with meaning. When a person is unhealthy, god himself treats him of the
agony then why is it that the right to free health care is not the fundamental right of every citizen in
their country?

Health is the right of every human being. Staying healthy is essential not just for individuals but even
for an economy as a whole. Some countries have become accustomed to the idea of granting free
medical care for their citizens but it has spread in a slow and restricted manner. Few of the nations to
adapt to the idea of free health care include Uruguay, Latvia, Senegal and in fact more than half of the
world has some kind of guarantee or insurance but these facilities are only provided to the countries
with less population and low death rate. The countries which are actually in need for these facilities
are being robbed. One such country is USA. The united states is one of the most developed countries
and yet it lacks free medical facilities. In the most recent events a demand of Medicare for everyone
has been animating issues in the recent months of 2020 on regards to the COVID-19 however no
steps have been taken among these matters.

Undoubtedly, health provides quality of life and freedom for every creature on this planet. For
example, health is a vital component in a child’s life, it provides proper growth and development to the
mind and body. Children require energy to fully participate in the activities on the field and within the
class. Moreover, as we speak, the right to medical care still is not a reality for millions of children
around the globe, and more particularly in developing countries. Every year, more than 13 million
children under the age of 5 die from illnesses which could have been prevented or treated.

The members of the United Nations have recognized health care as a human right which has been
written into the original document in 1948 when it was established. However, most of the members of
the U.N do not fulfil the criteria for medical services. Such facts are widely concealed from the people
hoping that they will pay for medical services and for other facilities to the government. People without
knowledge are voluntarily paying their bills luxuriously.

Providing free medical care may not be the biggest obstacle for the government. Moreover, after
providing the amenities, preserving their standards is more critical. This creates a legal obligation on
the governments to guarantee access to punctual, acceptable, and affordable health care of
reasonable quality and also providing the underlying elements of health, such as safe and clean
water, sanitation, food, accommodation, and health-associated knowledge and education.
Nevertheless, there are always other factors which may be used as an instrument for discrimination.
The right to health must be appreciated without discrimination on any grounds of race, age, gender,
ethnicity or any other status. Non-discrimination and equality require states to take steps to redress
any discriminatory practice. If these problems are not looked into, this may pose a threat to the unity
of the country.

The next step for the country should include a system of paying the healthcare workers. Right to
health is necessary but not at the cost of employment. The people who are an essential part of the
system must be paid well according to their rank. This is a crucial factor upon which the standard of
service depends indirectly.

In general, health must become a fundamental right all across the globe. There may be a few criteria’s
that needs to be fulfilled nonetheless they should not be put forth as an excuse to preclude a cause
for the good of millions. Setting up a proper functional system may require time and resources but it
will provide the world with the gift of rejuvenation.
