WHAT IS
Great Resignation?
The Great Resignation, also known as the Big Quit and the
Great Reshuffle, is an ongoing economic trend in which
employees have voluntarily resigned from their jobs,
beginning in early 2021.

The term "Great Resignation" was coined by Anthony Klotz, a

professor of management at University College London's
School of Management, in May 2021, when he predicted a
sustained mass exodus.
Industries with low location and time independence were among the
industries that suffered most during the COVID pandemic work crisis.

According to NSI Nursing Solutions, a nurse recruiting agency,
the turnover rate for staff increased by 2.8% in 2020, reaching
18.7%.
The same is true with physicians. According to Jackson Search,
a physician recruiting firm, 54% of physicians surveyed said
COVID-19 has caused them to change their employment plans.
Of those, half plan to leave their current employer, while 36% are
opting to retire early or leave the practice of medicine
completely.
This year alone, nearly 1.7 million people have quit their
healthcare jobs—equivalent to almost 3% of the healthcare
workforce.
Why are employees leaving?
Possible causes include wage stagnation amid rising cost of
living, long-lasting job dissatisfaction, safety concerns of the
COVID-19 pandemic, and the desire to work for companies
with better remote-working policies.
The COVID-19 pandemic allowed workers to rethink their
careers, work conditions, and long-term goals.
The exodus is being driven by Millennials and Generation Z,
who are more likely to be dissatisfied with their work. More
than half of Gen Z reported planning to seek a new job within
the next year.
