An Athenian Decree IG I3.36 (Ca.

424/3 BC)

Look carefully at the letters. Which ones can you make out? Can you make out any words?

KALLIAS (the name of the proposer) is in line 4, starting at the 12th letter

This is an unusual inscription. The first six lines are in Attic lettering; the next four are in the Ionic. It is from Athens.

This decree makes provision for for payment of an annual salary of 50 dr to the priestess of Athena Nike by the kolakretai (Athenian financial officials). It was
proposed by Kallias. It is now located in the Epigraphical Museum in Athens (EM8116).
