SHORT TERM OUTCOME CEMENTLESS TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT FOR

FRACTURE NECK FEMUR IN ELDERLY : A CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT

Introduction : When dealing with fracture neck femur in elderly. There are few options. For example,
hemiarthroplasty or total hip replacement. In elderly with limited activity, hemiarthroplasty has been a
preferred choice by so many surgeon to make the patient return to mobility soon. Hemiarthroplasty
may be suitable for elderly with less bleeding during the surgery and speedy recover and ambulatory.
Currently, elderly might have different life expectation and longer live expectancy and still want to enjoy
communal and recreational sports activity.

Case Presetation : We present a case of elderly, fracture of neck femur, 74 years old with a hobby of
travelling around Indonesia, recreational sports and communal activity. We performed total hip
arthroplasty cementless with piriformis sparring technique in this patient and follow up. The patient has
speedy recovery, and we follow up the case for 4 months , and scoring with harris hip score.

Conclusions : A post-surgical total hip arthroplasty patient was successfully treated with cementless
total hip arthroplasty, achieving a significant clinical outcomes . A 4-months follow up examination
revealed of both the neck femur fracture correction and patient health and speedy recovery. These
results indicate that the correction of neck femur fracture in elderly following cementless total hip
arthroplasty is achievable and may be a desirable clinical outcome.
