Unit # 1

1. Amazon.com Mission statement is “To be Earth’s most customer-centric company, where customers
can find and discover anything they might want to buy online, and endeavors to offer its customers
the lowest possible prices.” Is this mission statement market-oriented, product-oriented, production-
oriented or futuristic? Why?
In my opinion, this mission statement is market oriented as their target market is very abroad. If
you consider “Earth’s most eccentric company”, it defines that they are establishing this
company for a worldwide end users. In the terms of product, “anything they might want to buy
online” is not regarding the product-oriented. As a customer, this is an important thing you must
know the things/products you are going to buy. The statement does not define that they are going
to provide products as well as services to the customers. If it is only meant with the products, I
would suggest with the small modifications “anything that is possible”. In online shopping,
people want to buy old, new, furnished, etc. do they want to target all the market? I really
doubtful they do, but these things are not clear. Thus, I would say the statement isn't completely
product oriented. With respect to production, whatever clients are purchasing in mass, they may
set up their own production office also, however the actual statement doesn't give that vibe too.

Yes, it is futuristic as it has planned to arrive at the entire Earth's market. They need their essence
to be everywhere on the world and give customers the alternatives to purchase anything on the
web. With "anything" they certainly need to add an entire pack of products or services.

2. The purpose of strategic planning is to find ways in which an organization can best use its strengths to
take advantage of opportunities within the environment. In the past, Wal-Mart mission statement was,
“We deliver low prices, every day.”  Currently, Wal-Mart’s corporate mission is “to save people
money so they can live better.” Using the knowledge from strategic formulation and unit’s reading,
provide a possible reason for review of Wal-Mart’s mission statement.
As the explanation for having the mission statement is to tell the world, "Why the organization
does exists?" With the prior mission statement, Walmart gave a message that they offer less costs
ordinary, that is why they exist. It very well may be the organization's strategy to make their
mission statements quick and painless, which not at all like other organization's statement doesn't
says a great deal regarding them. May be that was the motivation behind why they considered
evaluating their mission statement. I feel that with the mission statement that came later, they
have discussed two things for example setting aside cash of individuals and improving their life.
With this statement they attempted to give a message that saving is a truly incredible thing to
accomplish for any family. While we tackle work or business we frequently neglect or in some
cases disregard about saving and that occasionally makes our life hopeless during emergency
like the current circumstance. Thus, when I take a gander at it intently they are giving a message
that they help individuals in saving and ultimately that works in making their life simpler and
better. Other reasons may be the plan of action of Walmart may have changed a tad. Beforehand
they considered giving merchandise on store at sensible cost and later they may have considered
further adding an assistance of getting it done at home, which gives their client sufficient
opportunity to go through with their family and consequently improve their life.

3. Take a moment and reflect on the topics introduced in this Unit. Formulate at least one question that
arose while you were reading the material and completing the assignments. Was there anything in this
Unit that surprised you or caught your attention? Explain.
This was an interesting unit. I go through with all the topics under discussion. I have no question
at this time. The 4 P’s Marketing Strategy was an interesting topic for me. However, the
assignment was much difficult in the start. But the materials for Unit 1 helped a lot to solve the
questions provided.
