APPLICATION OF FAYOL’S 14 PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT IN
BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS

1.1 Introduction
Principles of management are the most notable regulation and key guideline to the
sussuceesive of any Organization. An Organization wither the profit making or
nonprofit making needs to have the principle that will guide toward to its achievement
of the goals oriented. In deed all Organization either Public or private Organization
needs to have the principles and guideline that will give the provision of the directions
toward the fulfillment of the duties oriented. As far as the principle of the
management is concerned the notable father of the Management Henry Fayol
proposed 14 principles commonly known as Fayol 14 principle of management. The
description of the Fayol principle of the management has been widely discussed by
management science researchers and authors.

According to Godwin, et al (2017) they argue that the startup Organization should be
having the principles of the management that will guided it to maturity. In their
description they found that the Organization should the management guideline that
will enforce the employee to fulfill their task within the limited time. These descprion
were underlined in the Fayol’s principles of the management. In the same vein
Mbalamula et al (2017) on the study that demonstrate the Utility of Henri Fayol’s
Fourteen Principles in the Administration Process of Secondary Schools in Tanzania;
the study was carried at three region from Tanzania mainland. The output of the study
indicate that School managers have leadership skills in different capacity and hence
the applicability of the Fayol’s principle of management were seem to be important
for the betterment of the school both academic and administrative affairs like
planning, coordinating and staffing.

Furthermore Uzuegbu & Nnadozie (2015) on the study related to Henry Fayol’s 14
Principles of Management: Implications for Libraries and Information Centres argue
that the Organization need the principles on the management to ensure the
effectiveness of the operation, this is both to private and public Organization. The
implication of the related to this was adopted in case study of the libraries and
information centre.

1.2 Problem statements
Fayol’s 14 principle of management are the fundamental guideline that are needed to
be adhered in any of the Organization. In this case both administratively Henri Fayol
are fundamental principle need to syncretize the administrative and operation welfare
of the Organization. As according to the Poudyal (2013) the utility of the principle
are unavoidable in all management level of the Organization. As matter of the
administrative are concerned Fayol’s principle are significant factors that enhance the
Organization performance and wellbeing. However, it is believed that no
Organization can stand and function without the applicability of the Fayol’s 14
principles of management (Breeze, 1995). In the view of the institutions like Library
and information centers, the principle of the Fayol’s 14 are inevitable due to that are
useful in determination of the Organization successful if they are applied positively.
Hence all of the three provided articles have declared the importance of the Henry
Fayol 14 principle of management in any Organization whether profit making or non-
profit making institutions. Indeed the application of the Fayol’s 14 principles of
management in business organizations are the key conglomerate factors toward the
achievement of any Organization as propounded by the article provided.

1.3 Research questions


From them provided article the research question that raised are the determinant that
signify how the Fayol’s 14 principle are researchable according to their utility and
applicability. Hence the following are the research question of the paper as per tittle
Application of Fayol’s 14 Principles of Management in Business Organizations.

i. What is the significant of the Fayol 14 principle of management? This


question have been tried to answer the related question on why it is
importance for the Organization to adopt the Fayol’s principles of the
management. As refers to the provided articles both article have tried to
explain deeply the applicability of the Fayol 14 principle to their Organization.
However they were differ from the nature of the Organizations, for instance
Uzuegbu et al (2015) describe the application and implication of the Fayol
principle on Library and information centres, while Mbalamula et al (2017)
explain on the Utility of Henri Fayol’s Fourteen Principles in the
Administration Process of Secondary Schools in Tanzania and according to

Godwin et al (2017) have investigated on the application of principle on the
startup the Organization.

ii. How does the Fayol 14 principle of management influence the Organization
performance? In this context the influence of the Fayol 14 principle on the
influencing the Organization performance were review both in the employees’
side and the management side. Indeed each party has the role to do to ensure
that the Organization objectives are adhered. For instance order principle this
is to ensure that task are performed in the order manner which means in the
planned and effectively mechanism, this is applied to both employees and
management in the Organization like wise to the Esprit de Corps principle that
emphasize the team working and team spirit. With the reference of the
provision article both article have narrate the way that Fayol’s 14 principle are
influencing the Organization performance in business Organization.

iii. What are the Challenges for the adoption of the Fayol’s 14 principle of
Management? The challenges associated the adoption of the Fayol’s principle
of management are differ from one Organization to another Organization. This
disparity may be the leadership styles used in the Organization (Mbalamula
and Suru, 2017), the in-service training as well as the nature of the
Organization business.

1.4 Methodology
A descriptive approach was used in the survey study, while an explanatory design was
used in the literature search. Descriptive research depicts an accurate picture of
people, events, or situations, whereas explorative research entails a search of literature
relevant to the aims and gives qualitative information on developmental difficulties
with a view to making recommendations (Kothari, 2004). While Mbalamula and Suru
(2017) adopted the surveyed approach to collect the information from 38 managers of
the school from three region where the study was conducted. In the same vein
Uzuegbu and Nnadozie (2015) used the literature analysis to study the Henry Fayol’s
14 Principles of Management: Implications for Libraries and Information Centres and
Godwin et al (2017) applied the same methodology based on the documentary review
collected.

2.0 Findings and Discussion
Relationship between Organization performance and adoption of Fayol’s principle of
management.

This findings indicate that both article have reviewed in the first research question on
the significant of the Fayol’s 14 principle of management in the Organization. From
this point of view it indicate that an organization perform well if the Fayol’s principle
of management are applied. The goal of this study was to see if there were any
statistically significant links between Henry Fayol’s management ideas and practices..
As per the relationship of this it implied that performance and Fayol 14 principles
have a strongly relation positively.

Fayol 14 principle of management influence the Organization performance; to


determine the influence of Fayol’s principles of management on Organization
performance. Such that Organization performance were measured based on the
respondent perceptional impact on the three dimensional factors of cost, time and
quality. Indeed the performance influence in this study was determined on how the
applicability of the Fayol’s 14 principle were taken into the consideration of cost, time
and quality.

Also, from the perceptively the study also identify some challenges that hinders
effectively implementation of the Henri Fayol principles of management, as per
articles provided these challenges were lack of leadership skills and lack of the in-
services training as argue by Mbalamula and Suru (2017)

3.0 Conclusion and Personal View


The study explored the Application of Fayol’s 14 Principles of Management in
Business Organizations. This was related according to the provision of the article
given. From this respectively it is significantly claimed that the Fayol 14 principles of
management are inevitable in the Organization performance. However some of the
principles are seen to be weak and other are assumed to be very strongly. Hence that
study show that discipline , divisions of work, subordination of individual interest and
esprit de corps (team work) are paramount important in attaining Organization
performance. Indeed this study based on the provided articles recommend that
Organization management either profit making or non-profit making should wisely

choose the appropriate principle that can be implemented easily toward the attainment
on the Organization goals. Above all it can be implied that the adoption of principle
should be correlated to the Organization objectives so as to ensure effectively and
efficiency performance of the Business Organization.
