For this project, I used Frisk Cartridge paper, an off-white paper with a medium smooth texture. ‘This works well for me as I ean soften and smooth the pencils but also use the texture of the paper for textural marks, took the main reference photo on that trip, but because it wasnt very clear, lalso used this reference image from Pixabay, where you can obtain copyright-free images. You can keep ‘adding layers until you're happy with the colour. | keep ‘adding mid-blue and light blue until !m happy with the finish. | am looking for a smooth finish in the sky, achieved by using several layers and blending the colours into one another, filing the textures of the paper. To fill the crevices in the paper, change direction as you move your pencil If you are scumbling in a circular motion and moving anticlockwise, ensure that you also move clockwise to get more even coverage. 18 PAINT& CREATE | saacouk Finish the sky with a layer of white. Itend to use the white pencil for blending, but you can use a colourless blender, which isa pencil that contains binder but no pigment. Using coloured pencilsis about layering. You can't easily mix colours as you would with paints, but you ‘can build up the colour using light layers achieved by varying the pressure, Layering enables you to get subtle colours and blends the pencils toa smoother finish: the more layers, the smoother the blend, |work my way down the drawing, so I'm not leaning, ‘on the pencil work I have already done.
