Research Title: Efficacy assessment of Antimalarial (ACTs) in treatment of uncomplicated

malaria among pediatric patients attending PHC's in Kano State.

Researcher: Prof. Sani Malami.

Description of the Study: This research will be conducted to assess the effectiveness of ACTs

used in the treatment of malaria. Parents/guardians will be given questionnaire to provide their

demographic information, and to assess their knowledge, attitude and practices on malaria

prevention. A blood sample will be taken from the finger tip of your child(ren) using a less

painful procedure. If your child has malaria, he/she will be given antimalarial tablets and he/she

will take it twice daily for three (3) days. You will be required to bring your child every day for

three (3) days and thereafter once weekly for 3 weeks. This will allow the researcher to

determine the effectiveness of the drug he/she is taking.

Rationale for the Study: This study is designed to determine the effectiveness, or otherwise, of

ACTs in the treatment of uncomplicated malaria.

Discomfort and risk of participation: There is almost no risk or harm to your child for

participating in this study, as approved ACT tablet will be used throughout the study.

Possible Benefits: The research participants will be given free consultation, free laboratory test

for malaria, free antimalarial drug as well as an incentive. The outcome of this study will help to

improve the use of antimalarial drugs by providing information about their effectiveness and

possible ways to improve their usage. This will ultimately promote the health of the community

in general.
