Approaches to Learning and Teaching

ATL skills are most important for learners in their day to day living and to be successful. If we
talk about any higher positions in a company or an organization is only possible if the person
exhibits these 5 skills in the life. The knowledge is only transferable and visible through
these skills thinking, research, communication, social and self-management. These skills
support the teachers to provide the wide range of opportunities to design to make the
lessons enriching. It shows the skills and behaviors in children which are used in the process
of their learning. It also includes emotional, behavior and cognitive skills which students
needs for their personal learning. It helps to acquire new knowledge, develop skills and set
high target to achieve.

I would like to comment on the Steven challenge where I can see the values of compassion,
empathy and social emotional learning is major ally important to embed into the classroom
as it will help them to be more resilience and develop motivation to try new things.
Some of the examples which we are doing at our school would like to share as this can
support steven if similar practices can be embedded in his teaching and learning
environment

 Setting up Circle time/Morning meetings where students get chance to share about
their day and well being
 Gratitude cards or star of the day and week should be given to student to encourage
the behavior
 Students can work more on project-based learning which will develop research and
challenge them enough to come out of comfort zone
 Small group task to be set and they need to keep changing and work in new group
each week as this will develop their social skills
 Stories during library or read aloud session on friendship, empathy, compassion will
develop their literacy skills and thinking
 Integration of ICT into the lessons will focus on their research skills on the other
hand students those feel challenges into their work can try new ways of learning
 Time based task to be provided to work on timeline and on self-management skills
 Monthly Aha moments are celebrated for each grade where they can show what and
how their children showcase some uniqueness in their learning which could be
either target to learner profile or to ATL skills
 Celebrating each other festival and culture brings the aspects of cross-cultural
relationship as it improves their social connections within their grade and across
grades
 Leadership opportunities such as acting like a teacher during teacher’s day in
younger grade classroom not only exhibits leadership qualities but also show how
children balance themselves in that environment
 Role play on the given situation to develop compassion
 Compassion jar, mindfulness corner in the classroom
 Dance helps them to share their feelings and emotions explicitly
 Art exhibition on developing international mindedness
 Magical words corner
 Essential agreement to set in class and plan during morning meetings to be shared
clearly
 Certificates related to learner profile provided by end of each unit
 Mindfulness through yoga, cosmic yoga helps them to concentrate.
 Sports day setting up students with high challenges task to perform while competing
but still celebrating
 Birthday Jars where students write good notes to their friends and will be shared on
the day of the birthday
 Family tree to develop aspects of uniqueness and be together in a classroom
