    If the check engine light is on constantly with no codes, The MEMCAL is defective. If installed backwards, REPLACE THE MEMCAL. If bent pins break, remove MEMCAL, straighten pins, and reinstall. With the ignition switch "OFF", connect the pickup lead of the timing light to the number one spark plug.

    ^Engagetheparkingbrakeandblockthewheels. ^Placethetransmissioninneutral. 1. 2. RefertotheVehicleEmissionsControlInformationlabelunderthehood.AlwaysfollowthevehicleEmissionsControl Informationlabelproceduresfirstbeforeusingthefollowingprocedure. PuttheICsysteminthebypassmodebydisconnectingthesettimingconnector.Thisisasinglewiresealed connectorthathasatanwithblackstripelead.Thisconnectorbreaksoutofthewiringharnessbelowtheheatercase inthepassengercompartment. WiththeignitionswitchOFF,connectthepickupleadofthetiminglighttothenumberonesparkplug.Useajumper leadbetweenthewireandplugoraninductivetypepickup. DONOTpiercethewireorattempttoinsertawirebetweenthebootandthewire.Connectthetiminglightpower leadsaccordingtomanufacturersinstructions. 4. Starttheengine,andaimthetiminglightatthetimingmark.Thelineonthebalancerorpulleywilllineupatthetiming mark.Thetimingshouldbe0TDC.Ifachangeisnecessary,loosenthedistributorholddownclampboltatthebaseof thedistributor.Whileobservingthemarkwiththetiminglight,slightlyrotatethedistributoruntilthelineindicatesthe correcttiming.Tightentheholddownbolt,andrecheckthetiming. TurnOFFtheengineandremovethetiminglight.Reconnectthenumberonesparkplugwire,ifremoved.
