Abstract-1
This report will discuss the problem definition, the design Procedure
.foreach component and represent the calculations

Introduction -2
It is required to design an overhead crane to lift a load of 50 tons to
.aheight of 7 meters, and design and select the crane components

3.1 Main Girder :
The Main girder on the path is a box-shaped frame.
The section of the main girder is systematically
analyzed and finite confined calculation method to
include that it has enough strength, hardness and
.overall firmness

Figure 2:- Main girder

5
3.2 Runway Beam :

Under hung crane runway systems are used for

mounting under hung single girder and under hung
double girder cranes. Additionally, most specialty
crane systems can also utilize an under hung
runway. Unlike top running runways, under hung
runway beams typically use patented track as a
running surface. Alternatively, structural I-beams

.can also be used as a running surface

Figure 3;-Run away Beam

6
3.3 Hoist :
The hoist is designed to lift and lower the desired
load and is fixed to the trolley frame using either a
hook an/or custom lifting attachment to support
the load. You have the option of two hoist models;
a Munck electric wire rope hoist or an electric chain
hoist. The wire rope hoists manufactured by Munck
are safe, dependable, durable, and are designed for
year of long term use. Chain hoists on the other
hand are designed for lower capacity operations
and ideal for light duty requirements or new
.projects

Figure 4;- Hoist

7
3.4 Trolley :
The bridge crane trolley rides across the span of the
bridge along the girder or girders and carries the
hoist and supported by 4 wheels.

Figure 5- Trolley

8
3.5 Wires :
This wire rope belongs in the non rotation resistant
classification but its strands are compacted and it is
used mainly as luffing wire rope on high efficiency
ship & harbour mobile cranes, container bridge
cranes, overhead travelling hoists, mineral loading
cranes. Extremely resistant & flexible 8-strand
ordinary lay or Lang's lay rope with inner
plasticization, suited as luffing & hoisting rope.
Long service life due to inner plasticization and
reduced rope abrasion, resulting from the smooth
rope surface, also exhibiting excellent flexural
fatigue properties
Resistance against corrosion due to galvanized
wires, the permanent lubrication and inner
plasticization Reliability and safety in operation as a
result of the highest breaking forces, especially
provided by the compaction technology.

Figure 6-wires

9
3.6 Wheels :
Wheel block uses special bearing surface design,
trolley surface applies the overall process to ensure
horizontal and vertical deflection of each wheel,
high precision assembly, stable operation, and easy
for replacement.

Figure 7-wheels

10
3.7 Hook :
Hooks are employed in heavy industries to carry
tones of loads safely. These hooks have a big role
to play as far as the safety of the hoist loaded is
concerned. With more and more industrialization
the rate at which these hooks are forged are
increasing. This work has been carried out on one
of the major hoist hook carrying a larger load
comparatively.

Figure 8-hook

11
3.8 Motor
The electric motor can be used to power a variety
of lifting devices and metallurgical support gear. It
is mechanically strong and has a high overload
capacity. It is particularly well suited to short-term
or irregular operation, frequent starting and
stopping, and machinery with a lot of vibration and
impact. The motor's sealing is good.

Which metal we use
ASTM A709-50 is a high-strength, low-alloy structural steel plate utilized primarily in the
manufacture of bridges. A chemical composition of iron, manganese, carbon, and other
elements enable this carbon alloy to exhibit improved toughness, durability, and resistance
.to harsh outdoor conditions

characteristics of ASTM A709 steel plate Grade 50

High strength-to-weight ratio

Heightened weatherability

Excellent corrosion resistance

Good weldability

yield strength =345Mpa

A709 Grade 50T Bridge steel plat

Why we use steel in crane girder : Steel is an ideal material for bridges. It
is an essential part of modern bridges because it is strong, can flex
without fracturing and has a long life, even in the harshest conditions. It
can be used to build bridges of any length because of its durability and
ease of manufacture and maintenance., while ensuring that it meets the
increasing demands for high performance. It dominates the bridge
.constructions for long span bridges, railway bridges

Advantages of a Double Girder Design

No limits to maximum span or capacity

Ideal for production and transportation of heavy equipment

Ideal for frequent lifting of heavy loads

Can be used in indoor and outdoor applications, including

mining, iron and steel, railyards, and ports

Good sealing performance. The guide chain part is fully

enclosed in order to ensure the clean environment of the
;meshing of the chain and the guide base

Adopt reverse connection brake, improve brake

performance, extend brake service life, and adapt to high
temperature and high humidity pre-treatment environment
;within a certain range

24
The brake clutch gearbox is free of maintenance for ten years, reducing
;maintenance frequency and maintenance cost

Equipped with columnar induction motor with large power and

.sufficient power margin
High power continuity rate, suitable for frequent starting and braking
;conditions

Faster lifting speed and higher working level can fully meet the
;requirements of production intensity

Fully imported world famous brand with high wear resistance and aging
resistance round steel chain, long service life and good wear resistance;
Moreover, there are many kinds of double-beam cranes, which can also
be designed according to the needs of users , suitable for different
.occasions and convenient for users to use

25
Disadvantages of a Double Girder Design

More expensive because of added material costs, additional

structural support, and more complex crane components

Additional costs related to freight and the installation of the

crane versus a single girder crane

Hook approach is lessened for both trolley travel and bridge

travel—especially on double girder top running cranes

26
Applications of overhead crane

1. Steel industries

It is widely used in the steel industry for its ability to work

efficiently at high temperatures, and it is also used to keep
workers safe from dealing with molten steel and Used for
transporting and pouring of liquid metal during melting

Figure 11:- Overhead crane in steel industries

27
2. Plastics industries

Plastic industries use molds , overhead crane are used to

transport molds from place to place and place them in a precise
position so as not to affect the prod

Figure 12:- Steel industry

28
3. Automotive Industry
Efficiency is decisive in the automotive sector. That not only
applies to the cars, but production processes must also run
smoothly. For decades, Damage has supplied many sectors with
cranes for safe, reliable and optimized process sequences. Car
production starts in the press plant. Wherever tools weighing
several tons need to be automatically transported for
optimized tooling times, Damage can supply customized cranes

4. Double Girder Overhead Crane with Electromagnet

The main part of the electromagnetic crane is the electro

magnet. When the current is turned on, the electromagnet will
firmly attract the steel objects and lift them to the designated
place. Cut off the current, the magnetism disappeared, and the
.steel object was put down
The bridge electromagnetic driving is very convenient to used
in scrap steel recycling departments and steelmaking
workshops
