Transition As a Writer
I didn't begin my writing journey last night. I've always been someone who enjoyed
learning and sharing my opinions, so when speech wasn't an option, I turned to writing to explain
myself. I began writing in the creative writing genre for the first time while I was still a little
child after reading a narrative my buddy had written in the seventh grade. I thought to myself,
"Hey, I can write this too," after reading her fantastic piece of fiction, and almost immediately I
got a notepad and began writing my own novel. Despite the fact that it was quite similar to hers
and that I did borrow some ideas from her book, a lot of people read it and really enjoyed it,
I had written quite a few fictitious stories by the start of eighth grade, and I was well-
known among my friends for my fantastic tales. When eighth grade, I regrettably quit writing
after two of my stories went lost as a result of my friend's negligence. I was so furious that I
vowed never to give them another piece of work, which caused me to quit writing for a while—
the only forms of writing I continued to do were essays and other tasks linked to my studies.
Although I was aware of blogging before to entering 11th grade, I always believed it to be
something reserved for grownups until I discovered differently. I became interested in it right
away and began looking into how I might start my own blog. When I first learned about web
designing, I almost gave up since it required learning how to code or paying someone else to do
it for you. None of those options seemed appealing to me. Fortunately, right as I was ready to

give up, I discovered this website called WordPress, which lets you make a website in a matter
I started my blog, Diary of a Life Puppet, in 2011, and in 2012, I was given the
opportunity to contribute to a fantastic online adolescent publication. Writing has taught me a lot
thus far, and I continue to learn since, in my opinion, mastering the craft of writing is a lifelong
endeavor. But I can't dispute about the impact of this course that my writing has improved. These
are just a few of the many ways it has impacted and greatly aided me over the semester. As
simple as it may appear, this course really helped me improve as a writer. It would be silly to
argue with me when I say that writing has improved my writing abilities since we all know that
repetition makes perfect and it's nearly impossible to keep doing anything over and over again
Writing about my discussions helped me become more imaginative and useful, but
writing about the research paper was so much more beneficial. When I wrote about my
discussions, I seldom ever took the time to properly proofread and revise my work, and when I
did, I didn't go through the proper steps. When I began composing for the research paper, that
changed. I have benefited much from using Smarthinking to check and edit my writing. I learned
to utilize and blend words wisely, became more focused and attentive with my syntax and
punctuation, and I eventually started proofreading my writing. I was able to develop a strong
affinity with the English language by writing throughout the course. In the past, I had to make
sure I was using every word correctly before I could use it in an essay, an article, or even simply
a text message to avoid embarrassing myself. Now that burden is lifted off my shoulders, I can
proudly state that I can use words efficiently without always looking them up in a dictionary.

If you've heard of journaling, then you likely understand what I mean, but even without
journaling, the act of writing down words and producing an imaginative work brings me inner
delight and calm. I write whenever I'm feeling depressed, and frequently I find myself amazed at
how the words just flow continually. Writing has significantly increased my self-esteem and
confidence because when you feel good on the inside, it always manifests on the exterior.
Both a talent and a skill, writing. A talent that some people are born with and one that,
with dedication and hard effort, anybody can learn, as I did via this course.
