Which literary period was your favorite? Why? (Write at least 3 sentences.)

To me personally, it would be Realism and Regionalism. Mostly because it is something i could relate

to. It represents customs and traditions and how people spoke. And let us not forget the great

writers of that time.

Of Plymouth Plantation by Ray Bradford
★ Explain how the characteristics you listed above are evident in your chosen piece of literature
(be specific):
Bradford wrote stories of pilgrims and their change to the new world, mentioning the impact of
mayflower on freedom of religion. Formal language was also used when describing Plymouth’s early
years
★ What is the the mood of your chosen story? Provide textual evidence and 2-3 sentences
supporting the mood you’ve chosen.
We can see a lot of Romanticism. Characteristics that was part of influencing modern American
society being developed along with its culture. One example is the evolution of writing, giving us
great artists and writers of today.

Young Goodman Brown, along with A Rose for Emily.

★ Explain how the characteristics you listed above are evident in your chosen piece of literature (be
specific):

For Young Goodman Brown. We see imagination as we are lost in the woods along with brown. Along
with brown constantly question reality. Inspiration and individuality in Hawthorne’s hometown Salem
where many witch trials were being held.

★ What is the theme of your chosen story? Provide textual evidence and 2-3 sentence explaining
how this shows the theme you’ve identified. A main theme in "Young Goodman Brown" is faith.
This can be seen when Brown relies on the faith of others to bolster his own piety. Without that

★ In Unit 3, we read A Raisin in the Sun, an American drama written by Lorraine Hansberry that
debuted on Broadway in 1959.
★ Reflect on the story and then select or create a meme (or other image) that captures a central
conflict of the play.
★ Paste your meme on this slide and explain the conflict you identified.
★ Be sure to include how Hansberry develops the conflict through the characters and plot.
One conflict would be how Walter’s has felt betrayed and deceived by his family. For example during his
family’s denial of his dream of opening his first liquor store. He feels betrayed, especially after Willy
Harris a close friend of his does not show at the train station. Taking all the money and running away.
That is when Walter becomes and angry and fed up with life and its unfair heavy hitting punches. So he
decides to stop whining and become a man who can support his family, he takes his father’s insurance
money and starts a successful liquor store.

The Jumping Frog of Calaveras

(be specific):
With a well-written story we are a wide variety of ways to use our imagination, especially when
talking about Jim Smiley, a man that collects frogs and gifting them with human characteristics.

★ What is the conflict in your chosen story? Provide textual evidence and 2-3 sentences supporting
the conflict you chose.
The mood is one of light heartedness, with humor mixed in. The setting being a small and simple
town adds to it as well. Making the characters run rampant in our imagination.
Conclusion
Please write a 1-2 paragraph reflection on our first semester of American
Lit, and be sure to include the following: What was the most important
thing you learned about literature/language arts? What was your biggest
strength and what skill do you need to work on more next semester?
Why?

Its poetical aspects stuck to me. There were many authors bringing
ground breaking stories to us. Overall, it has improved my book writing
abilities, along with grammar and vocabulary.

I was also able to improve on my skills on writing an essay. I was more


aware of the things to include at the beginning and end of my
essays.Thus, I am grateful for such a learning experience.
