About-Scarcity of Electricity
According to Wikipedia,

“An energy crisis is any significant bottleneck in the supply of energy

resources to an economy. In literature, it often refers to one of the energy
sources used at a certain time and place, in particular those that supply
national electricity grids or those used as fuel in Industrial development and
population growth have led to a surge in the global demand for energy in
recent years.””

Various Causes of the Global Energy Crisis

• Overconsumption. ...
• Overpopulation. ...
• Poor Infrastructure. ...
• Unexplored Renewable Energy Options. ...
• Delay in Commissioning of Power Plants. ...
• Wastage of Energy. ...
• Poor Distribution System. ...
• Major Accidents and Natural Calamities
Present power shortage situation in India
India is suffering its worst power shortage in October since March 2016
due to a crippling coal shortage, a Reuters analysis of data from federal
grid regulator POSOCO showed.
Power supply fell about 750 million kilowatt hours short of demand during
the first 12 days of October, a deficit of 1.6% that was the worst in five and a
half years, the data showed.
The October shortfall was already the biggest in absolute terms for a
single month since November 2018, even with 19 days of October still left.
The shortfall this month already accounts for 21.6% of the total deficit this
year.
Northern states such as Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh,
and the eastern states of Jharkhand and Bihar, were the worst affected,
registering supply deficits of 2.3%-14.7%.

Effects of power crises in india:-

State-run Coal India Ltd, the world's biggest coal miner, has temporarily
stopped supplying non-power users, the company said in a statement on
Thursday, as India battles one of its worst power supply deficits in years.

India is the world's second-largest coal producer, with the world's

fourth-largest reserves, but a surge in power demand to above pre-
pandemic levels mean state-run Coal India's supplies are no longer
enough.

Coal India said it had stopped all online auctions of coal except those
meant for the power sector. India has asked power producers to import
up to 10% of their coal needs amid fuel shortages and has warned states
that federal companies will curb their power supplies if they are found
selling electricity on power exchanges to cash in on surging prices
Suggested solutions for the Scarcity of Electricity
To suggest effective solutions for facing this problem I have conducted a
small survey. For this survey I have prepared a questionnaire to conclude
my findings.
The questionnaire’s format as below: -
1. Name of Responder-
2. Age & City-
3. How many times power outages did you personally experience from
last 1 month? - 1-3 times/3-5 times/not counted
4. Did you complain about this to the concerned authority- Y/N?
5. Did their assistance help you -Y/N?
6. Are you aware about the ongoing power crises in India?
7. Is your area also facing low voltage/ power shortage?
8. How much you affected by scarcity of electricity -_________________.
9. What can be the effective tools the face these crise (any 2)
10.How much you rate the present policy of government for facing
scarcity of electricity-

Survey Details: -
Place of conduct- TANAKPUR
Date-17/10/2021
Responders Age range- 18yrs-30yrs
Responders Occupation – Students & Working professionals
Conclusion and Findings: -
By filling the questionnaire by various responder, I found the
following findings as the solutions suggested by responder and my
own views.

Findings-
• Out of 10 responders 9 are aware about the ongoing power
crises in India.
• Most of the people are facing extreme level of power
deduction from last 1 month
• Most of them have raised this issue to concern authority.
• They got satisfied by concern authority assistance on average
level.
• Because most of the responder are working professional and
student so their daily work got affected.
Suggested Solutions: -
• We can save electricity by avoiding the unnecessary use of
electricity/ wastage of electricity.
• The best possible solution is to reduce the world’s dependence
on Non-Renewable resources and to improve overall
conservation efforts renewable energies – such as
steam, solar, and wind.
• Replace traditional bulbs with CFLs and LEDs. They use fewer
watts of electricity and last longer. If millions of people across
the globe use LEDs and CFLs for residential and commercial
purposes, the demand for energy can go down, and an energy
crisis can be averted.
• People who use different options to generate power must be
given permission to plug into the grid and getting credit for the
power you feed into it
• Energy simulation software can be used by big corporates and
corporations to redesign the building unit and reduce running
business energy costs
• Both developed and developing countries should adopt a
common stand on climate change. They should focus
on reducing greenhouse gas emissions through an effective
cross border mechanism
