Intercultural Music Style

-We often take for granted many of the things in our world that would not have existed if varied
cultures had not mixed. Music is universal, and it is an art form that has grown significantly over
time due to the effect of cross-cultural interaction.

Oriental is a word that signifies "from the East." It is a common term for everything belonging to
the Eastern world in regard to Europe. Oriental music comprises a wide range of musical forms
originating in a variety of Asian countries. Turkish music, Persian music, Jewish music, Arabic
music, Central Asian music, South Asian music, Southeast Asian music, and East Asian music
are all included. Because of the strong Eastern influences, the label Oriental can also be applied
to a variety of Balkan and Greek music styles.

The melody is everything in Oriental style music. Harmonies are uncommon and, when used, do
not contribute to the music's tension or release. They're only there to add a splash of color. The
second distinguishing feature of this style music is transparency, or the emphasis on individual
instruments. Regardless of the size of the orchestra, each instrument has a distinct part and is
designed to be heard playing its own tune. Because harmonies are rarely used, instruments aren't
intended to offer background texture. You want them all to be heard because they each carry
their own music. This means that instrumental groups are usually quite tiny.

These countries do have an impact on one another. Their languages and alphabets share many
parallels and roots, such as the occupation of one country by another during wartime, lead to the
similarities shared between two different cultures.

Music enables us to communicate our common humanity to one another. It exemplifies the value
of diversity in ways that you don't often see in other aspects of our lives.
