Introduction:
This is the introduction slide that slightly defined the term what Business intelligence is,
Busines process is and supporting process is. This part presents introduction to BI, Business
process and supporting process to audience.
Business intelligence:
“business intelligence is a collection of tools and strategies that analyze and covert raw data
into actionable and coherent information for use in business analysis to help in better decision
making”, (CallMiner, 2019). Simple to say business intelligence is a tool which helps
organization in improving decision-making by processing, storing and analyzing data. The
need of business intelligence is in business performance. Basically, raw data of organization
is processed and converted into meaningful dashboard and record which is easy for
organization to view the business record and growth which makes ability to decide what must
be happened and what should not be. BI tool allows organization to brings discipline into data
collection, object-oriented approach, reduces time and labor cost, data managements and
provides dynamic problem-solving platforms.
Business process:
Siman rana 7

particular business goal) for a particular customer or customers”, (Dvorak, 2020). Basically,
we can think business process like multiple inputs in various stages in business and creates a
fully workable or serviceable finished product. Business process are created for deriving and
contributing organizational goal. Business process helps improve efficiency of organization,
decide in what tasks are important, helps in optimum use of business resources, fulfill
communication gap between people, functions and departments, provide links between
business step, stakeholders and business goals.
Supporting processes: “supporting processes are the primary processes or factors that
ensures the functioning of key processes and overall operations of company”,
(managementmania.com, 2019). Similarly, supporting processes support the business primary
processes, they do not directly create a product or service but are necessary to facilitate the
execution of operating and management processes. They just indirectly contribute to add
value in business. Verification, training, audit process, documentation, human resources,
accounting are some of the examples of supporting process.
Siman rana 8
Business Intelligence | 2020
This slide represents the business process and supporting process in terms of examples.
Business process: “A business processes is like a checklist; a series of steps carried out by
key stakeholders to achieve an identified or concrete goal. Each step in the process is
assigned to a participant with accountability for completing it,” (saundersandlee.co.uk, n.d.).
Business process is like workflows where there are set of tasks involved in creating product
and are both definable and repeatable. So, business process can be achieved through; defining
goals, planning and mapping process, testing process, action and assigning stakeholder,
implementing process, monitoring result frequently, and repeat the process. One of example
in sales process: sharing sales proposal, sending quotes, negotiations, billing, payment,
updating records of the sales, and many more.
Supporting process: “Support processes are all processes whose sole purpose is to ensure
the functioning of key processes and overall operations of the company”,
(managementmania.com, 2019). These processes can be critical and strategies to organization
because they directly affect the ability to execute main processes or key processes. So, they
just gear up the value of business not in the way of money. Example in payroll department is
this department does not earn you money but without them employees would not be paid and
same for cleaning department in an organization.

Reason: WHY?
This slide presents the importance of BI, business process and supporting process in modern
day organization. And reasons for why they must be implemented in modern day business.
Business intelligence (BI): “in advanced technological era “data is the new oil” is that just
like oil, raw data isn’t valuable in and of itself, but, rather, the value is created when it is
gathered completely and accurately, connected to other relevant data, and done so in a timely
manner”, (Rosebrough, 2020). Similarly, Business intelligence provide platform where raw
data or unstructured data are processed and converted into meaningful with visual
presentation which helps in decision making.
Why BI: below are the lists that makes use of BI in business world:
Siman rana 10
Business Intelligence | 2020
performance over past years or weeks, product groups or customer sectors and many
more.
● Data visualization: organizations can quickly convert large volumes of data in a
much more friendly manner and simplified way, with the use of this features. Data can
be viewed pictorial or numbering as wished by users.
● Online Analytical Processing (OLAP): basically, this database technology offered
query and reporting instead of processing. OLAP can provide analyzing data by
joining together like: stock vs sales, provide powerful time-based comparison, or
helps in identifying trends, growth or confusing data.
Therefore, these features are also helpful for struggling startup company like FoodMario
which aims at sustain in market. With use of business intelligence FoodMario can analyze the
overall performance and downfall of company in market.
Types of business process: business process is further categorized into three processes:
● Operational process: “To find your operational processes, ask yourself, ‘how does,
or will, your business generate income?’ It is the procedures and tasks that play a
direct role in the production of outputs – from the inputs – that are the operational
processes”, (checkify.com, n.d.). these processes are related to the visions,
fundamental values and mission of business. Example: a local grocery shop who
deliver vegetables in community. Here, tasks involved: buying product from supplier,
packing into packet and deliver vegetables to consumers which are all operational
process in a shop.
● Management process: “This is where the coordination of the above processes takes
place. This involves the planning; monitoring and the general oversee. This means
ensuring that the team is meeting targets, that the workplace is compliant and safe,
and that concerns of employees are dealt with – among other managerial duties”,
(checkify.com, n.d.). similarly, this process organizes, plan, coordinate and control
over all function of the business, like from decision making to problem-solving by
controlling day to day task, teaching employee about how effectively tasks can be
completed, launching a new product are some key factors that makes management
flexibility within a business. Therefore, they optimize income opportunities and adapt
business as necessary. Example: budgeting, infrastructure, CEO’s, managers, top-level
management are generally included in management process.
Siman rana 11
Business Intelligence | 2020
● Supporting process: “These are the processes that are not directly related to the
delivery of the service or product to the customer. But they help the business create an
environment where the primary processes can work better. That is where the name
“supporting process” comes from”, (Kotadiax, 2020). These processes make possible
for operational processes to carried out effectively either or both strategically and
necessarily. Example: accounting, human resource management, technical support,
financial management process.
Therefore, solving certain problems of customer through call is operation process,
managing the employees is management process and assisting employees with technical
or hardware problems at any time will be supporting process.
Why business process: here’s how and why business process is important in business:
● Reduce expenditure and risk: “a business process reduces expenditure and risk by
already laying out the most efficient ways of doing the jobs considering the potential
future shortcomings”, (bhadana, 2021). Identifying risk and reducing expenditure is
best way to save from downfall which is provided by business process by considering
future shortcomings.
● Minimizing human error: errors are the obstacles and time-consuming factor in any
business, and with business process we minimized it through distributing tasks only
who are specialized in those tasks.
● Improve efficiency: business process increases the productivity of any department in
organization by selecting best and relevant moves and steps for business. This
increases the efficiency of business automatically.
● Increase customer focus: as business process aligns business goals with our
customer goals which helps us recognize customer as business. As business process
continuously updates company with customer wants and reviews on products or
services.
● Better time management: business process provides better time management by
developing effective strategies and flowcharts to reduce time in doing certain tasks.
● Bridge communication gap: as business process offered feature like customer focus
which is helpful for company to bridge communication gap with customer through
certain reviews and market research and trends.
Siman rana 12
Business Intelligence | 2020
Why supporting processes: as supporting process does not directly produce product or
services in business but they promote and gear up the internal activities or tasks that is needed
for business to create final workable products or services. “they ensure the business
resources in the quality and quantity needed, ensuring the quality of resource supplies or
support services and covers the overall effective functioning of the organization”,
(managementmania.com, 2019). Likewise, independent activities like: accounting, technical
support, human resource management and financial management are needed and to be
managed for company to run. And these activities are supporting processes. Accounting
records overall financial transaction of business, technical support provides IT infrastructure
for company. Therefore, these independent activities integrate and makes company running to
achieve busines goal and these activities are necessary in company to achieved predefined
goal of a business.

This slide presents detail discussion about data, types of data in BI with clear examples.
Data: “In computing, data is facts, numbers or information that has been translated into a
form that is efficient for movement or processing”, (Vaughan, 2019). Many industry expert,
popular business man or economists believe that not oil but data is now the most valuable
resources in the world. Now data is called as “new oil”. After properly, refined or meaningful,
data becomes a decision-making tool or the information which allow companies or
organization to act accordingly. Therefore, these are the importance of data in modern day
business.
Types of data: we classified data into three categories: structured data, semi-structured data
and unstructured data:
Structured data:
“Structured data is generally tabular data that is represented by columns and rows in a
database”, (tondak, 2020). Basically, these types of data are organized into a formatted
repository which is typically a database. And data are usually formatted in rows and columns
with fixed pre-defined fields. Databases that include such form of data in tables are called as
Siman rana 14
Business Intelligence | 2020
relational database. we can think like data we stored in an Excel spreadsheet. In structured
data, objects can be grouped together to form a relation, example is above picture. This
makes structured data easy to store, analyze, insert, update, delete and search. Often structure
data is organized using programming language like SQL (Structured Query Language).
Examples of structured data are: accounting transactions, address detail, star ratings by users,
ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning).
Semi-structured data:
“Semi-structured data is information that does not reside in a relational database but that has
some organizational properties that make it easier to analyze”, (AshishVishwakarma1, 2021).
These types of data cannot be organized in a row-column database and do not have related
data model. semi-structured data does not contain structured data but have some
organizational properties of structure data, we can see above picture for it. Similarly, text of
an email message also can be called as semi-structured data. Due to its lack of structure of
data, it is more difficult to search, manage and analyze. These types of data exist to ease
space. Examples of semi-structured data are: digital photograph, JSON files, XML files.
Siman rana 15
Business Intelligence | 2020
Unstructured data:
“Unstructured data is information that either does not organize in a pre-defined manner or not
have a pre-defined data model. Unstructured information is a set of text-heavy but may
contain data such as numbers, dates, and facts as well. Videos, audio, and binary data files
might not have a specific structure. They’re assigned to as unstructured data”, (Tondak,
2020). These types of data cannot be contained in relational database tables. And does not
arranged in any order which makes difficult to search, manage and analyze. So, does have
alternative platform for storing and managing data like Mongo DB, Redis, Apache HBASE.
Examples of unstructured data are: photo, video, audio files, text files, PDF, media logs.
Data are stored in abstract and figure. Data are stored in various forms

possible.
Siman rana 16
Business Intelligence | 2020
Examples: digital photograph, XML files, Examples: media logs, audio files, video files.
JSON files.
The main difference between semi-structured and unstructured is, unstructured data have no
pre-defined format, it is stored in its natural format until its extracted to analysis but semi-
structured is basically, mix of both structured and unstructured data.
Application software: “an application software is a bundle of programs or tool which allows
organization to manage, automate and optimize their recurring business processes” (Bortolus,
n.d.). Like, it is a type of computing program that is designed to do a specific task according
to its code written in it. In the world of business, traditional manual calculations, predictions,
decision making or managing business is impossible, we need software for making decision
or predictions to .run business Every business-related activities are performed day to day or
often we rely on application software because of it functions like: calculating large volumes
of figures, pictorial represents of data for analysis, managed information, manipulate data,
time saving, reduced labor costs, quality and consistency and coordinate resources. Basically,
there are numbers of application that can be used in business according to the need. Like:
Siman rana 17
Business Intelligence | 2020
● Saves time.
● Quality and consistency result.
● Decreased labor costs.
● Helps in decision making.
● Monitor key performance indicators (KPI).
● Increased operational efficiency.
● Organized business management.
● Data security with backup and restore.
Siman rana 18
Business Intelligence | 2020
This slide illustrates the benefits and drawbacks of using application software in business
process.
Benefits: in business processing, organizations have to deal with large volume of data and
keeps them organized and up-to-date over and over again because business may change over
time. These types of software can reduce effort and skills of employees. So, that they can
focus on next project with any wasting time. And some other benefits are:

past data in application software which might need to increase the application
software capacity to store data. For this, we need leased cloud solution or dedicated
storage server to store which might charge extra cash.
● Time consuming: similarly, developing software according to the customers
requirement requires a lot of time which might cause delay in production process. If
application is for client then it might consume months because client frequently test
and demand extra features and services in application which is also time-consuming
factor. These activities can cause less productivity of company which is not good at
all.
This slides clearly explain the advantages and disadvantages of using business intelligence in
modern day business.
Pros:
Siman rana 21
Business Intelligence | 2020
● Speed and competitive advantage: due to its access to worldwide data, BI can do
quicker reporting, analysis and planning, because of BI system’s analytical
capabilities, it is able to react immediately to market or other situations.
● Increased organizational efficiency: management use BI to access data and get a
comprehensive picture of their operation, as well as measure outcomes against the
entire organization. Managers may discover areas of potential with comprehensive
view of the organization.
● Customer experience improved: customer satisfaction and experience may be
directly influenced by business intelligence. Using data extracted from operations and
customer support, we can easily identify opportunities for improving customer service
and reduce support calls at maximum rate.
● Increases competitive advantage: company would be more competitive if they
understand the market and how they operate within it. As from data analyzation from
numerous of data, it provides ability to predict ideal times to join and exit market and
strategically position itself.
● Analysis and insights: to predict, budget, plan and keep up to date, BI processes
massive volumes of data. Company can use competitive analysis to better understand
their competition and compare their performance of that of their competitors.
Differentiation of product and service is possible because of business intelligence.
Cons:
Siman rana 22
Business Intelligence | 2020
● Analyzing multiple data source is difficult: the more data source we use, the more
comprehensive our BI becomes. While a number of data sources can help us to get
well-rounded picture of our data, systems may have difficulties working across
platforms.
● Bridges gap between professional and personal life: employees may be required to
access business intelligence data through personal device. Some people may consider
the data collected on a specific group to be private information that they do not want
an company to utilize. Even when every caution is taken, there is still an overlapping
of lines inside BI that might makes some individuals feel uneasy.

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the use of the business intelligence tools and
technologies to support problem solving or decision making in an organization with some
critical review of business intelligence tool that we use. Microsoft excel is used as business
intelligence tool to support problem solving or decision making in a startup company name
FoodMario. This report aims to show the use of business intelligence in business for
supporting problem to deciding the plan. And provides outcomes of BI tool like excel to
analyzed data.

Aims: to finds the usefulness of business intelligence tools and technologies involved for
decision making and support problem solving at FoodMario.
Introduction:
“business intelligence is a collection of tools and strategies that analyze and covert raw data
into actionable and coherent information for use in business analysis to help in better decision
making”, (CallMiner, 2019). Simple to say business intelligence is a tool which helps
organization in improving decision-making by processing, storing and analyzing data. The
need of business intelligence is in business performance. Basically, raw data of organization
is processed and converted into meaningful dashboard and record which is easy for
organization to view the business record and growth which makes ability to decide what must
be happened and what should not be. And such meaningful data are used to analyzed the
problem as well by reviewing the performance like rise and fall of company and act
accordingly. Since business intelligence provide decision based on processed data which is
fact-based and data-driven. And business intelligence tools are kind of software that
processed unstructured data into meaningful dashboard, with interactive reports, summaries,
maps, graphs, and charts.

events and getting a complete view of what’s going on inside of our company. And other
importance of using business intelligence are:
Siman rana 47
Business Intelligence
2. Any company struggling in marketing and sales can have great positive impact by
using effective business intelligence tools. The company staff will be able to properly
analyzed demand and worthiness of services to figure out new markets and learn what
potential consumers require and which areas need improvements by gathering and
analyzing data. This will considerably assist the company increasing sales and
determining the impact of marketing activities. Business intelligence also allows
marketers in tracking campaigns analytics from single digital location. BI system also
tracks campaigns in real-time, measure their effectiveness and plan for future efforts.

numerous of data, it provides ability to predict ideal times to join and exit market and
strategically position itself.
● Analysis and insights: to predict, budget, plan and keep up to date, BI processes
massive volumes of data. Company can use competitive analysis to better understand
their competition and compare their performance of that of their competitors.
Differentiation of product and service is possible because of business intelligence.

● Data warehouse: it is the process used for storing company’s data in internal or
external database from multiple sources for reporting and data analysis which is
organized. Basically, it is used to connect and analyze data from different source.
● Descriptive and predictive analysis: as descriptive analysis is the practice of
analyzing past data in order to better understand how a busines has changed.
Likewise, predictive analysis is the utilization of data, statistical algorithms and
machine learning techniques to determine the likelihood of future events based on
historical data. And BI prioritizes descriptive analytics which summarizes historical
and current data to show what has occurred or is presently occurring. Similarly, BI
uses data to find the future events based on historical data.
● Predictive modelling: “Predictive modeling is the process of using known results to
create, process, and validate a model that can be used to forecast future outcomes”,
(Frankenfield, 2019). Basically, this technique uses statistical technique to predict
future events. BI analyzed historical and present data to generate predictive model
which helps in predicting future outcomes. And we use statistical model from
predictive model to predict and identify market trends
● Query and reporting tool: this tool allows us to construct organized lists, generate
regular reports and do cross-tabular reporting and querying. Basically, this technique
is also used for data warehousing for business intelligence. Data warehouse is
accessed securely through an end-user query and reporting tool. Business intelligence
also provide query facilities and reporting facilities for decision making capabilities.

real-time. due to cloud-based solution it is accessible from anywhere until we have internet
connection. “And other key benefits are:
Sisense: one of the most widely used user-friendly BI tool that allow their users to handle big
and complicated datasets as well as analyze and visualize them without the need of IT
department staff. “Another reasons that makes possible to adopt this tool are:
Siman rana 52
Business Intelligence
● Its ability to draw large amounts of data from multiple data source at high speed.
● Provides excellent technical support and connects smoothly to almost all data storage
platforms which enables users to easily view their data assets in multiple systems”,
(Miller, n.d.).
About company: FoodMario is a struggling company that provides home cooked services.
This startup company is struggling to sustain its market due to ongoing pandemic and begin
to sell grocery market online. They also deal with restaurant cooked food deliver business on
this pandemic but they are facing some problems in sustainability. With increasing size of
customers, the data is getting bigger and they need some business decision.
Siman rana 53
Business Intelligence
Role: being business analyst we need to analyzed the huge structured data provided by
FoodMario to us. And provide them effective decision. So, that they can adopt sustainability
on market, increase target customer and business growth as well.
Managing data: data of FoodMario had been managed in Microsoft Excel which I am going
to use for analysis purpose. “It’s true that Excel formulas and pivot tables are, arguably,
the most popular programming language in the world. Excel is an industry favorite as a
reliable spreadsheet and business intelligence tool – more than 1.9 million
companies worldwide use Office 365. Microsoft believes that one in five adults in the world
uses Excel”, (Kaur, n.d.) and we came to know that Excel is still common choice in BI tool
for managing and analyzing data. Services like gathering data, visualize data and share
information with employees within an organization across different devices makes Excel a
choice in BI tools. likewise, in terms of security this tool also provides strong data encryption
like file-level encryption, wordbook-level encryption, worksheet-level encryption system to
data. Since, data are managed in Excel spreadsheet. So, we are going to use this application to
analyzed data and provide meaningful information for FoodMario.

connection of date with total no. of order count (District wise) and date to top 10 most sold
food according to cook name. So, we can observe particular cook name at a particular date
and how much does he/she supply food quantity among that top most sold food. So, most
sold food in terms of quantity is Kim Bab (Rice Roll) from FoodMario.
Scenario:1

What we can analyze from above FoodMario data visualization is that the cook’s name
HAKOOK SARAG made 2 Dak-Bokkeum (mild spicy chicken), 4 Kim Bab (rice roll), 8
Kimchi Bokkum Bab (fried rice), 2 lunch box, and 2 Shrimp Tempura at 2020, September-26
and at 2020, september-26, the order was mostly from Kathmandu and Lalitpur. Which is
shown below:

Kathmandu has 34 cancel order, 186 successful delivery and 4 cancels from vendor in total of
224 orders. Similarly, lalitpur has 8 cancel orders, 52 successful delivers, 1 cancel from
vendor in total of 61 orders and last Nuwakot has 1 cancel order. Therefore, overall
FoodMario has 44 cancel orders from customers, 251 successful delivery to customer and 5
cancels from vendor in totals of 300 orders. So, FoodMario needs to focus us quality service
and better delivery to most canceled districts.

Scenario 6:
This column bars visualized about the most supplied food in quantity to customers of
FoodMario. Basically, what can be conclude from this chart is; customers have more taste in
Kim Bab (Rice Roll) of FoodMario comparing to other foods. Similarly, the top most
supplied quantity ever recorded in pandemic is 23 which is Kim Bab (Rice Roll). Other foods
have been in the range of 6-11 quantity supplied.
How this business intelligence tool is user-friendly and has functional ability:
So, I have designed the data in Microsoft Power BI tool which has easy user-friendly
interface comparing to Microsoft Excel. Basically, power BI is a collection of software
service, apps and connectors which comes in three versions: free/ Desktop, pro and premium.
We use desktop version to manage FoodMario data. With power BI mobile apps, we
can optimize reports for the mobile app and observed live dashboard and reports in mobile
layout. Due to more visually attracting, interactive and customizable dashboard, assist users
to provide detail business insights and decisions. Some user-friendly and functional ability of
power Bi are:

Data in power BI dashboard. Simple drag and drop options with data importing functions
makes power BI best-fits.
Siman rana 62
Business Intelligence
Its hands-on features make feel easy to use. All the necessary tools and technologies are
labeled and categorized with more advanced visualizations tools. we do not need to create a
pivot table to make interactive dashboard. Its built-in feature allows us to directly drag row or
column fields and its value in values labeled service. It can be called dedicated BI tools for
business analyst or any non-technical individuals for gaining business insights and to provide
decisions.

● Help and feedback button enables user to get quick assist. User can be volunteered at
beginning stage (after installing) with videos to during customizing. These buttons
have been used for different options too. Like: downloading, customer support and
assistance, feedback to power bi team. Users do not have to google, if anything went
wrong or confused.
● User-friendly tool is the primary feature that makes power bi a better choice because
power bi offers impressive drag and drop features to add different visualizations in a
report and self-service capabilities which ease the work of users. Power bi can be
deployed on both on-premise and on-cloud platforms.
● Organized and clean user interface is something that makes user comfortable to
use. Well-structured icons, labels and categories of different features makes power BI
10 times easier and more attractive. As charts are in clean picture form, clean and easy
view of services with properly labeled icons, option like model to view relationship of
one data sheet to another, and flexible tiles (tile is a single block contains visualization
in bi dashboard) which can be adjusted and changed sized are some key features that
makes power BI a user-friendly and reliable BI tool.
Why to choose power BI: there are various reasons that makes power bi a choice over other
bi tools. some can be affordability, excel integration and interactive visualizations while other
are:
Siman rana 66
Business Intelligence
● “Easily accessible from any location: Power BI can be accessed from any place. It’s
an excellent option for mobile teams or businesses with many locations. An engineer
on the road can access data from their phone, an analyst can consult the dashboard
from their desktop computer, and a manager can view graphical representations
during a management meeting from their tablet. The Business Intelligence platform
also makes it easier for teams to collaborate by enabling them to work on any file at
the same time. Power BI’s simplicity and ease of use anywhere, at any time, is a huge
benefit, and it saves time for the agile teams who have implemented this solution”,
(gestisoft.com, 2021)
● Up-to-date data: with power BI we can easily set up automatic data refresh, so that
dashboard will be update and provides us up-to-date data and scenario. This makes
users to identify opportunities and solve problem quickly. Up-to-date data are
extremely important to make competitive business and business growth based on
present scenario or information.
● Built-in formulae: Excel comprise of multiple formulae to filter, sort, add, average,
sub and so on data which is easy for us to managed data as per our needs. These
formulae assist us to managed and get quick result which are pretty much familiar
because the formulae re based on mathematics terms.
● Edits the results automatically: as this feature enhances the data entry process in
Excel if any changes are made to any of the cells, the chart will automatically be
updated which is quite easy when we have to edit results of huge data.
Siman rana 67
Business Intelligence
● Find and replace options: as excel is integrated with find and replace options which
saves time in replacing or editing any data, one by one manually. This feature helps us
to identify needed data in the wordbook and replace the existing data with new one.
● Review tab: one of the essential features to have is review on Excel. With review
category, proofreading can be enabled to excel sheet and also analytics can add
comments with it. Similarly, not only just reviewing and commenting, it is possible to
track changes, spelling checking and protect excel file which makes easy to use for
users when any changes need to be tracked, add comments, spelling checking in excel
sheet.
● Easy to reformat and rearrange data: excel has capabilities to format our data
using different color shades, bold, italics for bringing important data in front view. It
beneficial for displaying a variety of numbers related to the same heading. Similarly,
it also allows users to choose a suitable color for quick analysis. These features make
excel a user-friendly environment to work and analyzed data.
Siman rana 68

Critical review of the design in terms of how it meets a specific user or business
requirement:
Excel is a reliable spreadsheet and business intelligence tool of Microsoft. It is the platform
that support the capabilities of business intelligence like gathering data, transforming
information into meaningful data and helps in making better decisions. As excel spreadsheet
is used for multiple needs in business. They are the effective way to organize data and if used
properly, they can add value to an organization in a various way. Similarly, spreadsheet is
used as great source of business intelligence information because we can organize our raw
data of FoodMario into a readable format which makes it easier to extract actionable insights.
We can hold data points into each cell like raw data exports or unit sold into a spreadsheet.
Similarly, Excel allows us to define fields and functions that perform calculations for us
when working with more complicated data. Even with massive data sets, fragmented data can
be examined and displayed more thoroughly. Analysts or reporting experts and BI users are
finding Excel increasingly useful for full-length BI solutions because of features like power
BI: power pivot, power query and maps which can be easily integrate with Excel.
For FoodMario data analysis purpose, we use power BI over Microsoft excel because of
faster processing power and robust nature of power BI tool. Though we used Microsoft excel
at beginning stage for reporting or data processing and analysis purpose but when it comes
about performance, features, flexibility reports availability, power BI has no comparison with
excel. Similarly, now let’s see design that meets specific user or business requirements:
Siman rana 69
Business Intelligence
expert in UX skill with limited skill and drag-drop, it’s easy to visualized and evaluate
data.
● Row-level security: “Row-level security (RLS) with Power BI can be used to restrict
data access for given users. Filters restrict data access at the row level, and you can
define filters within roles. In the Power BI service, members of a workspace have
access to datasets in the workspace. RLS doesn't restrict this data access”,
(docs.microsoft.com, 2021). Basically, this feature in power BI allows us to have
access his/her relevant data only. This feature in power bi restricts the users at
database level rather than at application level which is data security implementation in
power bi. Here, we can directly, have access to the database that belongs to us, no
unauthorize party can.
● Spot market trends quickly: as power BI turns company’s data in to rich
visualizations that can gather and manage so we can focus on what is important to us.
Staying informed, recognize trends as they arise and grow our business are the power
BI capabilities. We can also analyze data into different dimensions and attributes,
including date-time dimensions. Monitoring our business and get answers quickly
with rich dashboard available give us insights to spot trends quickly.
Conclusion: in this part we examined the report titled “A study on the use of business tools
and technologies with their impact for effective decision-making” with tool Microsoft excel
and techniques associated with busines intelligence. We briefly described the pros and cons
of using business intelligence and some examples of real-world BI tools used widely. We also
analyzed FoodMario company data and visualized in dashboard with detail explanation of
what is happening in company through data. We designed the data of FoodMario in power BI
for user-friendly and functional ability with some useful techniques of it and finally, we
critically, review the design for meeting business or user requirements.

Part 4:
introduction:
This section includes the impact of business intelligence tools and technologies in effective
decision-making. Similarly, being a business analyst, I need to manage the data of FoodMario
which is struggling to sustain its market. Huge chunk of data is handled to me and I have to
use the tool and provide the decision based on data to FoodMario. And I will also explore the
legal issues involved in the secure use of BI tools. Likewise, I will conduct small survey to
find “business intelligence enhancing or improving operations of an organization”. And
finally, I will evaluate how use of business intelligence could extend the target audience of an
organization.
Siman rana 71
Business Intelligence
● Data visualization: presenting data in visual format and understanding data right way
are important factors to make effective decision. Likewise, presenting sales in terms
of months in line graph would be effective and understood rather than reading and
communication. This pictorial form will describe the whole scene of rise and fall of
sales in months which is easy to decide what to do.
● Connection to databases: it is important to have access to right information or data
in business intelligence process. With access to specific and right data the decision is
made accordingly. Similarly, analyst have to fetch data from different database and
web services as requirements. And they will get access to the right data regardless of
its source. With the right data, recommendations can be done accordingly for effective
decision.
● Predictive analytics: BI tools have an ability to compare the historical data with
present data and find conclusion. With helps of such types of data some prediction can
be done like rise and fall of sales in particular region, up and down in revenue,
company’s production ability in years, likelihood of loss in business and so on. These
predictions might helpful to decide what measures can be taken to avoid.
● Mobile business intelligence: most of BI tools are compatible with portable devices
like mobile, tablets nowadays. These makes easy access and analyzed data anywhere
at any time. With this environment, any user can plot the graph, report or dashboard
and analyzed it and later make decision for particular company at any time. Mobile
business intelligence helps analytics making real-time decision, interactive access and
analysis at any time.
The real challenges for small or big organization that implements effective BI system is
security and legal issues. “In order to realize strategic goals, legal departments and law firms
must have real-time access to business intelligence (“BI”) that is actionable intelligence by
virtue of its basis in structural and consistent data integrity. Legal departments today must
integrate matter management, e-billing, and reporting systems in order to maximize the
effectiveness of their data”, (Kerschberg, 2011)Similarly, the legal issues involved in the
secure exploitation of business intelligence are:
Siman rana 72
Business Intelligence
● Confidentiality: main ethical and legal issues roaming around beginning of digital
era is data confidentiality. It is important factor to be considered when it comes about
protection of user’s credentials in E-commerce. Sensitive data like user’s phone
number, order detail, address or identity must in confidential between company and
its users. Breaches of such data may result in unauthorized data manipulation or
destruction of entire company’s system as well as leakages of private detail in dark
web.
● Software rights management: this right management ensures that both service
provider and customer need to have licensed guarantee to work with BI tools. So,
software right management should be implemented in order to avoid legal or ethical
issues and this can be done through software license auditing whenever business
intelligence tools are used and user control the tools.
● Government restrictions: there are some of tools that has been restrict or blocked
by government to use in any business purpose. Likewise, India bans the business
intelligence tools that are developed by china for security measures. Not all but most
of BI tools has been banned to use for different suspicious activities.
● Data rights management: it ensures that trade secrets, intellectual property and
customer data are protected. Basically, this is the way of protecting digital copyrights.
As business intelligence tools process or collect data from multiple sources which
violates data rights management until the company or customer needs to provide
guarantee that BI system is allow to access and process data for analyzing purpose.
Siman rana 73
Business Intelligence
Objective: to find organizations with specific examples that have been using business
intelligence tools to enhance or improve their operations.
Study purpose: the purpose behind organizing small survey research is to identify the use of
business intelligence tools in organizations and its impact on organization operations.
Methodology: the method that is used to collect information through small survey. We design
questionnaire related to business intelligence tools and its implementation.
Target audience: for this small survey we have included only 3 active organizations. First is
Gorkha United school, second is metro marts and last one is Ganapati chappal udhyog.
Validity and reliability: to make research and survey more reliable and valid, we have
designed the questionnaire for target organization to interact and used questions related to
impact of business intelligence to enhance operations in both open-ended and closed-ended
types of questions.

Solution: as before using Microsoft excel, tradition paper pen was used to record and update
data. They reported that it was never been easy for them with this method to add, record or
update date of sale, stocks, revenue, payroll, fetch real-time data, marketing report and so on
due to human errors to fetch, update or delete records. After implementing Excel, it was easy
for them to record, update or delete data in spreadsheet and makes them easy to analyzed
their sales and marketing report, revenue by using dashboard, interactive reports,
performance scoreboard and so on features. They informed, it was really impressive and they
increased their revenue by 30% over last months.

Solution: though they implemented inventory software for sales record in mart but they were
unable to fetch data that helps to gain what customer are buying more, which product is out
of stock, what customer are searching more, who real customers are, and what to sell them.
These was reason they were lacking behind in sustainability. With use of power BI tool now
they can better understand who customers are, what they are searching, and helps to make
decision on how, when and what to sell them. They generate reports to analyzed customer
data. And they were successful at it, they gain more engaging customer and boost their

audiences and these records can be track down by using business intelligence tools.
like: frequent consumer, purchasing quantity, total sales to customers and many more.
Predicting the demand of active customers before any shortages of their demand may
help from losing such active customers.
● Influence customer behavior: business intelligence assist organization to quickly
plan, analyze and measure the performance of their marketing campaigns in order to
determine which marketing campaigns our customers respond the best to. Likewise,
marketing budgets can be reallocated to the more effective campaigns that provides
the highest Return On Investment (ROI). Similarly, an organization might want to
track effectiveness of a free shipping of product on a special day versus 10% off
coupon offers. So, which offers could be used more frequently. Organization may
market smarter and find possibilities of increased targeted customers, sales, and
growth by comparing actual result to planned results with business intelligence.
● Competitive advantage: as competitive advantage allows organization to deliver
better or more cheap goods and services than its competitors. This level of advantage
makes a customer choose our business over competitors. “Business intelligence can
be the difference between being an average-performing company and a superior-
performing organization. Organizations can gain a competitive advantage by using
business intelligence to align your strategic objectives with line-of-business
initiatives”, (Wagner, 2019). Basically, we ca track competitor’s performance with
business intelligence which is helpful to gain an edge over our competition and act
accordingly to drag more target customer to our organizations.
● Improves customer experience: with business intelligence it is easy to improve
customer experience through data analysis which might be the reason for increasing
customer. Likewise, when any customers comment on our social media profile and
buys a product, click on an ad, reads a blog post, or interact in any other way then
business intelligence can collect those data and utilize it to enhance the engagement
with customers and organization performance. Similarly, this way we achieve strong
customer voice which can offers feedback in real time without even we realized it
which can be great source to extend target audience taking legal issues in
consideration.
Siman rana 78
Business Intelligence
Conclusion:
this part concludes that the business intelligence’s tools and technologies have great positive
impacts in effective decision-making for an organization. And legal issues must be taken into
considerations in secure exploitation of business tools. Likewise, business intelligence is
always a great choice and need for enhancing organization operations. Organizations could
use business intelligence to extend their target customer by utilizing available features and
functionality, that business intelligence provides. Informed decision, data analyzing, customer
insights, self-reporting, real-time data access and so on are some features that business
intelligence supports and assist organizations to achieved its predefined goals.
