Wrought Steel Products Sectional Committee, MTD 04

FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (First Revision) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by
the Wrought Steel Products Sectional Committee had been approved by the Metallurgical Engineering Division
Council.
This standard was first published in 1995. While reviewing this standard, in the light of experience gained during
these years, the Committee decided to revise it to bring it in line with the present practices being followed by the
Indian industry.
Pre-painted galvanized steel sheets and coils produced by coating synthetic resin/organic coating such as alkyd,
epoxy, polyester, acrylic, etc, on continuous paint line (CPL) covered by this standard are intended to be used for
roofing, architectural siding, home appliances and other general article purposes.
In this revision the following changes have been made:
a) Clauses pertaining to manufacturing, coating, durability of paint coating, testing for physical properties,
appearance, dimension and tolerance, packing and marking have been modified.
b) Separate clauses on salt spray testing and inspection and storage and handling has been included.
c) Tables for classification of durability of paint coating and physical properties have been modified.
d) New table on degree of colour match has been added.
e) Annex A has also been modified.
For all the tests specified in this standard (chemical/physical/others), the method as specified in relevant ISO
Standard may also be followed as an alternate method.
The composition of the Committee responsible for formulation of this standard is given in Annex B.
For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value
observed or calculated expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS 2 : 1960
‘Rules for rounding off numerical values (revised)’. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off
value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.
