Casimero-Akaho rivalry ends with No contest

What was supposed to be a friendly match turned into a deadly and disappointing one. The
world-class Pinoy boxer, John Riel Casimero and the Japanese competitor Ryo Akaho
competed on Saturday night, December 3, at the Paradise City Plaza Hotel in Incheon,
South Korea.

In the middle of the second round, Casimero received a flash knockdown delivered by
Akaho. The Pinoy boxer revenged himself by pummeling multiple punches at his competitor
when one of his powerful blows grazed the back of the head of the Japanese boxer.

Akaho raised his complaint to the referee and stated that he suffers from a grave injury and
refused to continue even after being given a 5-minute break to recover.

This resulted in Casimero’s first comeback fight, being declared a No Contest after a 476-
day lull.

It also lessens the chance of the Pinoy boxer to secure a title eliminator.

Casimero decided to return to the Philippines and spend the holiday season with his family
in Ormoc City
