Purpose of the Work Based Task Assignment Record

Following initial training, you will be expected to complete activities in the workplace on a number of occasions. This
will enable you to carry out the activity/task for which you have been trained in the real working environment and
gradually build experience and skill. When this assignment record is complete and signed, you will be eligible to take a
final assessment of your skills, job knowledge and ability known as a Technical Test. This test will be carried out at an
ECITB approved testing centre. If you are successful at this final stage, you will receive a certificate of training
achievement in the activity.

This record is for your use. The pages within it have been provided so that you can maintain a detailed record of the
bolted connections you have carried out during your work experience. The record must be kept up-to-date, which
means that the last task entry should relate to a bolted joint carried out by you very recently. This record is a most
important and valuable record of your training and work experience.

The Work Based Task Assignment Record must be completed within 12 months of the
initial training course to be eligible to take the relevant TMJI technical test.

You must complete three satisfactory bolted connection activities to be eligible for the technical test of skills, training
and practical ability. Each task assignment record should relate to a different bolted connection joint. You should
complete this record as you carry out the work assigned to you.

Your first few assignments will usually be completed under supervision and as you acquire experience and skills in
dismantling, assembling and securing bolted connections, you will require less supervision until you are able to
complete the task unaided. When you reach this level of experience, you should complete one record for each of
three assignments (covering three different joint tasks) and request that your supervisor(s) verify this record. Your
employer must also verify the complete work record when all three assignments have been completed.

Guidance to the supervisor

This task assignment record may be verified by any person with overall responsibility for the correct, safe and
accurate completion of the task. This could be:
 a supervisor or team leader
 a line manager
 any other person with responsibility for the final approval and quality assurance for the relevant task, for
example a QC Inspector or permit authority.

When verifying this record, it is important to ensure that the individual has completed all relevant steps of the
assignment correctly. This includes ensuring that the following standards, procedures, processes and requirements
have been met:

 Health, safety and environmental legislation, regulations and company specific requirements
 Manufacturer, supplier and company specific tolerances, technical requirements and policies.

You should review the applicable training unit before attesting to the workplace ability of the individual. The headings
in the task assignment record relate to the headings contained within the relevant technical training standard(s)
specification. The individual must satisfactorily demonstrate that they have carried out each of the steps indicated to
dismantle, assemble and secure bolted connections on a minimum of three occasions. This may mean in practice
that they complete more than three task assignment records as they may not carry out every step on each occasion.

Employer Verification
By signing the employer verification box on page 4, you are confirming that:
 the individual is employed or contracted to carry out the dismantle, assemble and securing bolted connection
duties on behalf of this employer
 the individual has satisfied our organisational requirements to carry out this task/activity and we declare that
they are suitably prepared for a confirmation technical test in this capacity
 work records are available for verification if required
 the named supervisors on the task assignment records are available if required.

Recording Experience
You must carry out least 3 tasks in each of the Areas of Skill. You will be assessed by a competent supervisor as to
whether you have completed each element of the task satisfactorily. (Task 4 is for additional records or to
accommodate errors in the form)
You must meet the standard set by the supervisor in each Area of Skill in order to complete this assignment.
Successful completion of each Area of Skill will be certified by a competent supervisor.
