Engineering Construction Industry Training Standard
Introduction
This training standard sets out the training necessary to develop the skills required to dismantle, prepare, secure and
reassemble mechanical joint connection systems. It does not form part of any recognised regulated qualification.
This Training Standard aligns with the training requirements of the following standards
ASME PCC-1-2013 Paragraphs BS EN 1591-4:2013 Tables
Appendix A A2.3 (not item (j) 2&3 Part 4 1
This is covered in MJI18) 8
A 2.3.1
This document has been developed by an industry-led working group. The companies which formed this working
group have developed this training standard to ensure consistent, high quality training which meets their needs and
that of the industry.
Training designed to this standard must include instruction that ensures that:
1. The learner is aware of the importance of health and safety in the workplace.
2. The learner understands relevant aspects of current health, safety and environmental legislation and
demonstrates this understanding at all times.
Instruction must include the particular risks, hazards and countermeasures associated with the activity.
3. The learner observes any specific safety requirements relating to the machines, equipment and methods of
working outlined in this document.
Qualifying comments
1. This document is structured so that each learning outcome is supported by ‘enabling objectives’ (the sentence)
and ‘key learning points’ (the list) which, when collectively achieved, will result in the fulfilment of the specified
learning outcome.
2. The key learning points are there to both contextualise the enabling objective and state what should be
known/understood or demonstrated by the learner upon completion of training.
3. Exercises and ‘real-life’ examples used in course materials related to this document must be contextualised to
the learners’ working environment e.g. the Engineering Construction Industry.
4. Practical elements of this training should be underpinned by practical instruction in addition to sufficient study
time for consolidation of learning.
5. All comments and queries relating to this document should be directed to the ECITB Product Development
Department via productdevelopment@ecitb.org.uk.
