Teacher instructions and answer key

Administering the Placement Test
Allow a maximum of 30 minutes for the Test.
The questions in the Placement Test become progressively difficult. Students should only attempt as many questions
as they feel they are able to within the time allowed.

Placing students
Placement of candidates according to the scores on the Test is based on the assumption that students have
attempted to answer all 70 questions.

Item Corresponding course level

1–6 Language Hub Beginner
7–20 Language Hub Elementary
21–34 Language Hub Pre-Intermediate
35–48 Language Hub Intermediate
49–62 Language Hub Upper Intermediate
63–70 Language Hub Advanced

Placement is at the teacher’s discretion. For example, a score of 18/70 would mean a candidate would probably
be ready for Pre-Intermediate, while a score of 27/70 would place a candidate in the second half of
Pre-Intermediate. A score above 60 would place students at Advanced.
