Question: Reflect on a team in which you have been a member (such as sports
team, work team, musical group, club or society, social network group, study
group etc.). Provide a brief explanation of what the team was about and then
evaluate your experience by answering the following questions:

Using relevant theory, describe the leadership in the group? What was the
predominant leadership style used by leader? What effects did the style have on
followers satisfaction and performance?

Introduction:
I am a member of a sports society’s management of University of Lahore and I have been
working here for last 1 year. In the management team there are 20 members including my group
leader. We work in the society as a management team to organize different events like National
Sports Fest, Sports Gala etc. Recent we organize the National Sports Fest (NSF) event and it was
the successful event of the year. Our team was taking care of all the arrangements themselves.
The planning and member’s participation was incredible.

Relevant Theory:
 A team leader is responsible for guiding a team of people during a particular initiative or
towards a specific goal.
 The behavioral leadership theory focuses on how leaders behave, and assumes that these
traits can be copied by other leaders. Sometimes called the style theory, it suggests that
leaders aren't born successful, but can be created based on learnable behavior.

Our team leader behave very polite and he know how to get work from any kind of work.
Sometime he would become hyper due to free riders but he used to get work out of them too.
Overall his behavior was pleasant.

Leadership Style:
 Leadership styles are classifications of how a person behaves while leading a group. Our
team is a management team so our lead’s leadership style was transactional leadership.
Transactional leadership is focus on supervision, organization, and group performance.
Transactional leadership is a system of rewards and punishments, and transactional
leadership is regularly used in business. When employees do something successful,
managers reward them. When they fail, they may get punished. Transactional rewards and
punishments are given based on the idea that people really only do things for the reward.
Their psychology doesn't allow human beings to do things out of goodness, but rather out
of the promise of a reward. A common example of this management style is a leader that
offers a cash bonus for employees who meet a goal.
 Our leader give task to every member if any member was not achieve it on time so he give
it some extra but achievable task and the members which perform outstand they got
certificates and shields from the director of all societies.
Effect of Leadership Style:
Transactional leadership is a leadership style that utilizes rewards and punishments to motivate
and direct followers. This approach to leadership, also sometimes referred to as managerial
leadership, emphasizes the importance of structure, organization, supervision, performance, and
outcomes. The goals and tasks for the group are highly structured, and members are rewarded
when they achieve these goals and reprimanded if they miss deadlines.

 People perform their best when the chain of command is definite and clear.
 Rewards and punishments motivate workers.
 Obeying the instructions and commands of the leader is the primary goal of the followers.
 Subordinates need to be carefully monitored to ensure that expectations are met.

This theory takes a behavioral approach to leadership by basing it on a system of rewards and
punishments.
