Assignment Solution
Appreciate and comment on different leadership theories, models
and principles.

There are numerous theories about how leadership works, what makes good leaders, and how to
be effective in the leadership world. Managers can employ a variety of leadership styles, the
impact of which varies depending on the group they lead and the industry in which they work.
These leadership theories explain how various leadership styles collaborate to help a business
succeed. If you want to be a business leader or manager, you should understand the various
leadership theories and how they affect your management and leadership style. Leadership
theories are theoretical explanations of how and why certain people become leaders. They focus
on the characteristics and behaviors that people can cultivate in order to improve their leadership
abilities.

A system of behavior, a chain of reasoning, and a rule or belief all start with principles. As a
result, leadership principles serve as the foundation for an organization's behavior expectations
for its leaders. Leadership behaviors that are aligned have a direct impact on organizational
performance. Leaders have a significant impact on your company's culture and performance.
They act as role models for the rest of the organization, and their actions set the standard for how
all employees should embrace and want to emulate.

Leadership models provide a simple mechanism for delivering results. A good leader must be
knowledgeable about various leadership styles. Users and members of the organization have so
far given positive feedback on the use of such leadership models. It produces effective results
over a long period of time. An individual in a small or large business can successfully perform
such tasks as meeting deadlines and properly organizing team members. In most leadership
models, team members are typically given autonomy only if they are skilled and experienced.
Discriminate between the leadership skills needed for different tasks
in organizations and at different levels, from strategic to team
leader. Provide examples.

Effective leaders can effectively communicate, motivate their teams, manage and delegate
responsibilities, listen to feedback, and solve problems.
Listening is an essential part of communication. The best way to encourage productivity and
passion among employees is to know which motivators work best for them. In addition,
employees should be able to address any concerns and issues directly with their superiors.

Influencing and leading people will assist leaders with communicating their visions or goals,
coordinating others' efforts, and gaining commitment from people at all levels. Leaders will also
be able to accomplish tasks and accomplish desired outcomes as a result of influence.

ideas. Leading skills include the ability to see the big picture, analyze, and diagnose problems as
well as come up with creative solutions. As a result, a leader can effectively anticipate challenges
that their department or their company might face.

Taking responsibility is a part of leadership. A leader is accountable for both his or her team's
successes and failures. As a result, leaders must be willing to accept blame when something goes
wrong.

Providing team members with valuable feedback about their performance should always be a
leader's top priority. Yet there is a fine line between providing advice and assistance to
employees and micromanaging them. It would be easier to delegate tasks to employees if it
taught them how to improve their work and make their own decisions.
Evaluate the usefulness of leadership theories, models and principles

Leaders are typically defined by their characteristics or style, according to leadership theories.
According to some theories, leaders have certain characteristics that qualify them for the role of
leader. They could be charismatic or heroic, for example. The style theories argue that a leader's
behavior qualifies him or her for a leadership position. There are also situational leadership
theories that consider the circumstances of each leader.

Understanding the various leadership models can assist leadership in becoming a better leader.
Different leadership models produce different outcomes, and different people are better suited to
different leadership models. Leadership will have a better understanding of strengths,
weaknesses, and the type of communication that will result in the most effective leadership
possible.

The set of actions or guiding beliefs that leaders can use to move them toward success are known
as leadership principles. How well a leader motivates and guides their employees has a direct
impact on how well an organization, company, or business performs.

Leadership ability is essential for achieving business objectives. A leader who follows a set of

TASK 3

Assignment Solution

How an organization’s objectives can influence choice of leadership

style You must identify objectives of your chosen UAE based or
multinational organization

Zurich is an international insurance organization here in the UAE and it is known as one of the
largest and longest standing organizations in the insurance industry. Zurich began in 1986 and
how it managed to stay in the insurance industry, what kind of leadership style they have, and
why they are known as one of the most successful insurance companies today.

The objective of the ‘Complete Leadership' program's business goal was to improve the
workplace culture required to support business strategy. The talent team identified new
leadership behaviors that stemmed from newly developed purposes and values in order to deliver
on the lofty goal of developing effective leaders.

The program was created to accomplish four objectives:

● Assist in the transformation of the company's culture to one that is more customer centric.
● Give Zurich's current and future leaders the skills they need to implement this new
strategy.
● Encourage the use of all four leadership styles, which should be used by every leader
(consultative, challenging, supportive, and authoritative.)
● Provide techniques for leaders to better manage their energy and wellbeing, as well as to
become better storytellers.

Zurich believed that if the company's leaders demonstrated the company's revitalized strategy, it
would inspire a cultural shift throughout the company. As a result, the talent team created a
three-day leadership behavior summit that outlined their strategy's three pillars: customer focus,
simplicity, and innovation.
Evaluate different organization functions and situations and what
leadership styles may be most suited to them.
Although each manager has a dominant style, they can learn to use other styles when necessary.
The directive leadership style, also known as autocratic leadership, leaves no room for failure or
error. The visionary leadership style seeks to inspire employees to build a company by focusing
on the big picture.

The affiliative style seeks to foster trust and cooperation between management and employees,
with an emphasis on team outcomes rather than individual accomplishments. The visionary
leader is best suited for considering long-term goals and determining how to achieve them. The
autocratic leader excels at keeping the vision from becoming entangled in secondary viewpoints
and tangents.

These necessary skills are now encompassed by four widely accepted management functions:
planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. 1 Consider what each of these functions entails
and how they might appear in practice.

● Function One: Planning

Every business must plan strategically in order to succeed. Leaders must plan for the future of
the company, from scaling up operations to changing marketing tactics. The visionary leader is
best suited for looking at long-term objectives and determining how to achieve them. The
autocratic leader is the best at keeping the vision from getting lost in secondary views and
tangents.

● Function Two: Organizing

You must be able to organize the company so that the plan can be carried out once you have a
plan. Delegating tasks, establishing procedures, and developing performance metrics are all part
of the process. A participative leader can obtain feedback from the team on what has worked and
what may obstruct the new outline plans and goals from the team. The manager establishes
processes that will work in the trenches and then move forward to the larger goal by utilizing
existing resources.

● Function Three: Leading

Leading is the process by which a manager is able to complete a task; more specifically, it is the
process by which he motivates his team to complete each component in order to move closer to
the end-goals. For day-to-day operations, you can use any leadership style, but you should
consider how styles affect team morale. On most days, teams led by autocratic leaders work in
fear, whereas teams led by democratic leaders can lose sight of the vision as everyone adds input.

● Function Four: Controlling

In management, controlling means ensuring that there are ways to define success. The manager's
role as a controller entail reviewing performance reports, sales figures, and cost efficiency. If a
problem or a gap is discovered, the manager must act quickly to adjust or close the gap, or the
strategy will fail.

Because they are on the front lines and do the work, However, this may take time away from
other management responsibilities. The autocratic leader is meticulous and skilled at analyzing
numbers. Leaders can keep morale high without instilling fear in his team as long as he can shift
into the coaching or affiliative mode when making adjustments.
Identify methods of leadership development suitable for a range of
different contexts.
Leadership development that occurs as a result of completing a work-related task that achieves a
specific goal is referred to as "action-learning." Employees must be tested or trained on a regular
basis by assigning them particularly difficult tasks, such as those found on the other side of a
promotion. In such a goal-oriented environment, however, some workers may not be able to
reflect productively on the process or on their own learning and behavior.

The main objective of Action Learning is to develop innovative and effective solutions. To
achieve these goals, learning at the individual, team, and organizational levels is required.
Because achieving great solutions necessitates team members to think strategically and
systemically, Action Learning has proven to be a highly effective method for leadership
development and organizational change. Individuals with Action Learning skills can lead and
collaborate with other leaders, stakeholders, and organizational contributors. In order for the
team to succeed, Action Learning also provides the opportunity and requirement for team
members to learn how to be good leaders and followers. Because Action Learning is so effective
at developing leadership and followership skills.
